Officially, Dior’s new spring 2013 collection is called “Cherie Bow,” but I’ve taken to calling it “Bow Cherie” for a very practical reason.
You see, when I’m wearing the new Cherie Bow Palette in Poudre #001 ($80) while singing and dancing around the house, “Bow Cherie” is easier to work into the lyrics of Stevie Wonder’s My Cherie Amour.
“Bow Cherie amour,
Pretty little palette I adore,
You’re the only one my heart beats for…
How I wish that you were miiiiiine.”
“Thank you! Thank you! No, no, that’s not necessary… Please, no more roses. I’ll be performing here at the MBB Lounge all week… Don’t forget to tip your waitress.”
Kidding!
But you know what I’m not kidding about? This awesome palette. 🙂 It really does make me want to sing its praises. The shimmery pink, gray and dark gray shadows thoughtfully avoid my fine lines; the creamy black liner practically draws cat flicks without my help; and the sheer pink lipgloss packs more moisture than a waterfall. Oh, and then there’s the gorgeous packaging, which turns the whole thing into a little work of art!
First time I saw the colors, I thought this was going to be one of those palettes that only cool-toned chicas would be able to wear, but I’m so glad I was wrong. The moment I swept these powder shadows — which, by the way, don’t leave behind a fleck of fallout — on my lids, I knew we’d get along.
The colors seem fairly neutral, I think, for pinks and grays, so even if your skin tone is warm like mine, you should still be able to pull ’em off.
Sweet!
Dior isn’t a brand synonymous with budget, and they weren’t aiming to change that here. Still, the $80 price tag is painfully typical for a “fancy” palette in one of the seasonal collections of a high-end brand.
Bow Cherie Cherie Bow is definitely expensive, and there’s no getting around that, but it might seem less pricey if you look at the price in terms of the cost per item. The five pieces in the palette work out to about $16 apiece…which sounds a little better than $80.
I might already have similar shades in my collection, but it’s nice to have them all in one stunning bow-shaped place. 🙂
PRICE: $80 (yikes!)
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to Dior counters and to dior.com this spring
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (I love the colors, quality and packaging, but what’s up with that price?)
My cherie amour…
There other reason I have this song stuck in my head is that new movie starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, Silver Linings Playbook.
In it, Bradley plays a man recently released from a state mental hospital, and Jennifer Lawrence stars as a friend. Throw in some football, a big ballroom dancing scene, and some of the wittiest, coolest dialogue I’ve heard in years (“Excelsior!”), and you’ve got a rom-com destined for cult-classic status.
Seriously, I loved, LOVED this film. It’s the perfect mix of weird and wonderful (aka, my idea of a good time). I can’t wait to see it again.
Watch it, babe! 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Agata says
I have been looking to this collection. Did you get any other pieces from that collection? I also want to see that movie. I saw the trailer and it looked good. Now I definitely have to see it.
Karen says
Hi Agata,
Yup, I just put in a pic above with the other items (quads, blush, lipsticks, etc.).
I hope you see the movie! It’s really, really great. 🙂 Do you like rom coms?
Agata says
Ohh, not sure why I missed that picture. I can’t wait for you to swatch the rest of the products. I love the colors. And yes, I love rom comedies but I think I will have to go see this one with my girl friend. My husband doesnt like those kinda movies.
Karen says
I put it in just after you commented. 🙂
El Hub usually doesn’t like rom-coms either (he likes movies with aliens and zombies, haha!), but he actually liked this one. It’s not a traditional story at all.
Tell your hubby there’s football! Maybe that’ll make him change his mind.
Agata says
Ohh, I thought I was blind for a sec. He’s more of a baseball fan so football won’t do the trick. But who knows maybe I will convince him 🙂
Karen says
Who knows? 🙂 Tell him it’s not sappy in the traditional rom-com sense. Just a really funny, quirky and enjoyable film.
Hope you’re having a nice day so far. It’s still early morning here, and I feel like I’ve been up FOREVER!
Diuata says
I am SO jealous of your Bow Cherie…errr Cherie Bow collection!!!! I have been waiting for these pretty ones the moment I saw them online! Please post more with FOTDs showcasing the products! I’m SUPER jealous! How’s about that 5 coleurs? I seriously want that one too, how well did it go with your coloring? I guess I’m just slightly lighter than you so I’m curious! Super Ganda!
Icaria says
It is a gorgeous palette but I do have dupes of these shades. Still, the presentation is adorable! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Icaria,
Totally with ya. This is one of those collections that hooks you with its good looks. 🙂
Are you a Dior fan, btw?
musical says
That’s one pretty palette! The lipsticks also look lovely (read: pink/coral-pink) ;).
How have you been, girlie?
Karen says
Hi Musical,
I’m doing great, thank you for asking! Just super swamped with the holidays and all. How have you been? Tabs say MRROW!
Trisha says
I really love those colors! But I agree, that price is scary.
(I like your bow!)
Karen says
Thank you, Trisha! 🙂
Heidi says
That palette is beautiful, inside and out!
And that definitely sounds like my kind of movie.
Karen says
Hi Heidi,
It’s so, so pretty. I didn’t think I’d fall so hard for it because I thought the colors would be difficult to wear, but they’re super wearable for even warm gals! 🙂
Hope you get the chance to hit up the movies…it’s a great film.
How have you been, btw?
Appu says
Love the packaging..if only it was a tad more affordable. Those shadows look gorgeous on you! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Appu,
I wish it was too. Ah, Dior!
Heidi says
Oh, up and down. I have to admit, I’ll be glad when the holidays are over. It’s really hard being surrounded by such a family oriented energy when I’m grieving. Not sure what I’ll be doing Christmas. Brian is working his butt off right now (which is good, when you work in construction this time of year can be all or nothing, workwise), so any plans will be last minute. I do have a backup invite for Christmas day if he’s unavailable.
Oh, did I ask you if you’ve seen The Perks of Being a Wallflower? One of the best “coming of age” movies I’ve ever seen!
Karen says
It’s hard to feel the spirit when you’re sad; that’s understandable. At least you’re not alone, you know? You have Missy, you have Brian, and with the interwebz and all keeping us connected, you’ve got me and Tabs, too. 🙂 Hang in there.
I remember you saying that movie’s a good one. It’s on my list!
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
I don’t know about this one…the packaging is kinda cute–but not the best I’ve seen. The shades look pretty and wearable, but not terribly exciting. I MIGHT pay $45 for it but DEFINITELY not $80 :/
Karen says
Hi Becca,
I see where you’re coming from. I happen to love the packaging, and I think the colors are shades that don’t go out of style. But then again I’m kinda addicted to Dior…
Dollie says
I didn’t find the colours in the palette too exciting…but the PACKAGING!!! OMG! I just loved the cute bow shape…my eyes want to remain glued to the pic.
Karen says
Hi Dolle,
SUPER cute. I love it! 😀
Chris El says
Karen do you know when the quints will be available to purchase? I’m digging the palette with the hot pink.
Karen says
Hi Chris El,
I’ve heard different time frames; I’m guessing January or Feb. I know Dior is one of the earlier ones to get launched.
Lulle says
Wow, that palette is just GORGEOUS. I love the packaging so much!
The rest of the collection is pretty, but since I’m not a fan of medium and dark pink on my eyes, I’ll have to pass on the quads.
Karen says
Hi Lulle,
Me too. It feels kinda modern and retro at the same time, doesn’t it?
Happy Wednesday!
Sunny says
I was really surprised by the eyeshadow in the middle, because it looks like a mauvy taupe on me! This is more of a collector’s item, but the quality is definitely there!
Karen says
That’s cool!
Jennifer says
Very Very pretty collection!
Karen says
Yes it is! 🙂
Kim says
It’s getting a ton of good buzz. I was thinking the other day that they should rename EW “Oscar Campaign for Silver Linings Playbook”. 🙂
This palette is VERY nice looking. And I know for $80 you should expect it, but I love the little protective door over the gloss. Such a packaging nerd!
Karen says
For a while there EW was pimping Argo, big time. They’re so fickle! You’ve gotta see it. It’s not as pins-and-needles tense as Argo, but it’s just so fresh and funny.
Kim says
I definitely will! Are you going to check out the Hobbit tomorrow? I have to say, I’m pretty psyched. Oh, and Martin Freeman also plays Watson in Sherlock. I was like “oh, hey! He’s Bilbo, too!”. 🙂
Karen says
I think we might be going sometime this weekend. It depends on how much I can get done beforehand. Why is it that the holidays are like one massive to-do list?!
Nina says
Its pretty but I cant. It would be such a pain to store this. The shape! 😀
Karen says
Aww, that’s why you store it on your dresser, so you can look at it every day!
Gina says
So pretty! I wish I could justify spending the money for it, but I can’t! :/
Tina F. says
I can’t wait to see swatches of the two nail colors. They look so fabulous in the pictures =D
Katherine G says
Beautiful palettes. I do love Dior, especially the mascaras, but haven’t plunked down money on eyeshadows yet (maybe I can convince the fiance to for my birthday and Christmas). I wasn’t in the Christmas spirit until we got our tree – it’s tall, beautiful and has a nice Christmasy smell to it (also came home with a wreath). Can’t wait to start decorating it – we were waiting for it to settle and get some water in its system.
Cindy (Prime Beauty) says
Okay, Imma gonna need to know which is better the bow palette or the eye shadow palette in pinks? I’ve bought some of the gorgeous expensive Dior “clutch” palettes and not used them b/c the glosses are always too light or the shades aren’t unique. So, in other words Karen, I’m counting on you to give me the 411 breakdown on which palette I need K?
Karen says
Hi Cindy,
Hmm, let’s see…are you thinking about the lighter quint (the one without the hot pink)?
Ankita@corallista says
I love the blush and the nail colors in this collection!
Angel says
This compact is sooo purrrty! But I especially like that they covered the lip gloss. I’m such a freak about palettes, I’m too OCD to buy anything that has powders and lip products side by side. It’s just so gross to me. The powder gets all stuck in in the lippie, ewwwww
I’m creeping myself out just thinking about it ha ha ha!!! It’s a total deal breaker for me.
