Would Metallica Rock the Metallic Shades in the $36 Make Up For Ever Rock For Ever Aqua Eyes Kit?

October 28th, 2010 by Karen 43 Comments

Make Up For Ever Rock For Ever Aqua Eyes Holiday Kit

According to my very un-scientific research, which involved one sidewalk James Hetfield sighting and 10 minutes of Googling, it’s hard to say. James might not, but Kirk Hammett has been known to sport the guy-liner.

Perhaps the limited edition Make Up For Ever Rock For Ever Aqua Eyes Holiday Kit ($36), with its five mini-sticks of Make Up For Ever’s famous Aqua Eyes liner in mostly metallic finishes (there’s one lonely matte), would be worthy of the stage.

Once dry, the vibrant colors should have the wherewithal to stay put through even the longest, sweatiest, most epic guitar solos.

Make up For Ever Rock For Aqua Eyes Liners from top to bottom: Gold 9L (a metallic yellow), Bronze 10L (a metallic bronze), Dark Grey 21L (a metallic gunmetal gray), Mat Black 0L (a black matte), Silver 8L (a metallic silver)

These are a lot like the MAC Pearlglides and Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils in terms of texture.

They have that same smooth, creamy consistency that scoots across the skin without tugging, but these do take longer than those others to dry.

The Pearlglides and UD Glide-On pencils set so fast (one minute or less) that I’ve sometimes found them a chore to use. The Aqua Eyes give me two to three more minutes to manipulate and smudge, which makes a huge difference, especially when I’m trying something complicated with a lot of blending. The extra minutes mean more time to smudge and fix mistakes.

I don’t rock in a heavy metal band, but I have been rocking out to this kit. I like to wear these liners with the new Rock For Ever Eye Palette, and also along my lash and/or water lines, as shadows by themselves, and even as shadow bases. They’re flexible that way.

My only gripe? I wish the kit came with a sharpener. There’s room in that studly little case. I’m just sayin’.

Other than that, the kit rocks. It’s a stellar buy, especially if you like metallic colors on your eyes.

PRICE: $36 for five 0.025-oz. pencils
AVAILABILITY: At Sephora stores and online

Speaking of Random Brushes with Music Industry Heavyweights…

I opened my email this morning to a note from someone named Mike Jones, and for exactly one second I thought, “The rapper!?”

It was actually a solicitation from a travel rewards website. Oh, well. 🙂

      Thanks, Steph!

I’m not sure if you can get them in the UK. I know Sephora France usually has the brand online though. That’s the closest I can think of for you.

If any Brits know of places to buy Make Up For Ever please chime in!

You can get these a Guru Makeup Emporium in London! I keep visiting their website, wondering whether I should buy these or MAC’s pearglides! Ugh! The horrors of having to stick to a budget!

      Hi Marina,

The gray and black shades are a little different in that the black is matte and the gray is shimmery… you could always get this and give the black pencil to a friend as a gift!

LMAO at your Kirk picture. I used to be a big Metallica fan when I was in junior high. I still sing along when a local radio station has its Metallica Mondays.

Anyway, I love these liners! I may have to put this on my Christmas wish list. <3

      Hi Heidi,

Make Up For Ever is pretty cool. They’re a French line that’s known as an “artistry” brand so they have some really innovative, interesting products.

Ahh, metal heads! Did your BF at the time have long hair?

This set looks really great! MUFE picked a nice range for the upcoming holidays. I started my MUFE aqua eyes eyeliner collection with a mini set myself and now I have about 6 or 7 full size liners. It’s my dream to own the whole collection. (Take note, Santa.)

KAREN, CLEAN OUT YOUR INBOX. FOR REALS. It takes forever, but it feels so good when you’re done. 😀

Also, which Mac do you have? I got a MacBook Pro in June :D. I’m pretty sure Tigger walking and sitting on my keyboard so frequently caused the early demise of my old MacBook lol (it was almost 3 years old, so a bit young…).

I love the Aqua Eyes liners. However, while they’re amazing day to day, I still haven’t found an eyeliner that doesn’t migrate under my eyes like crazy after seriously rigorous exercise. Luckily, I’m a lazy bum and don’t exercise that hard all that frequently, lol.

      Hi Instant Karma,

My inbox is a constant pain in my side. I try to clean it out, but it refuses to bend to my will. 🙁 Plus, I’m afraid it’ll take months.

Re: MACs: I have the 27 inch iMAC. I like it a lot! I think cats sitting on MAC keyboards is a universal thing, because Tabs loves — LOVES! — to plop his plump kitty rear on mine. Anywho, how are you liking your MacBook Pro?

Hmm, have you every tried wearing gel liner? Something like Fluidline should be able to stand up to vigorous exercise.

Ooh! My boyfriend just got the same one. It’s really nice! I still haven’t quite gotten used to looking at the whole screen, though, when I use it. It just keeps going and going!

Aww, Tabs on the keyboard. I think there is something about Mac keyboards. The cats never really cared about my old PC, lol (except for the one time Aisha walked across the keyboard until it froze). My friends are so used to Tiggy messaging them on gchat that whenever I end up with a weird typo, they respond with “Hi Tigger.” I like the MacBook Pro a lot, though. It’s definitely faster than my old MacBook was, and it’s ridiculously lightweight. Oh, and random, because I know you also love him, my current desktop is a photo of Christopher Meloni!

I really should try Fluidline. I tried Sephora’s new gel eyeliner the other day, and while it went on really smoothly and wore well through all normal wear, I exercised at the end of the day, and I ended up looking like a freaking panda (less furry, though, thank goodness). Next time I get something from MAC, I’ll pick up a pot of it.

The screen is quite gargantuan. It’s great for looking at photos and watching hulu though!

I love the thought of Tigger and Aisha instant messaging their cat friends when you aren’t around, LOL! I wonder if they ever Skype with Tabs, hmm…

And yay for your Dectective Un-Stabler desktop photo!!

So, Fluidline is pretty darn great, but you have to use a brush to apply it. It’s an extra step, but it might be worth it. Also: have you tried LORAC Front of the Line Pro? It’s liquid, but it stays on forever.

Oooh, good point. Hulu is amazing. It’s how I usually end up watching DWTS. Oh, guilty pleasures…

LOL, they probably do! I still think Tigger and Tabs are long lost cousins multiple times removed. I’ll ask Tigger if he has any family out in California. He tends to respond to my questions. I’ve been meaning to up the intellectual content of my questions anyway. Today, I asked him, “Are you a smart boy?” He responded with “mew.” Cats these days — they have no modesty. I guess they get away with it because they’re so cute :D.

I have no problem with using a brush, but I’m worried about liquid liner. Admittedly, I’ve gotten a lot better with eyeliner over the past few months (I’ve been practicing more!) but I’ve never been good with liquid liner. The few times I’ve tried, I’ve ended up looking like a fountain pen exploded onto my face, lol. However, since it’s in pen form, I might be able to handle it. I may have to place another Sephora order before the Friends and Family discount ends!
