It was like one of those dreams where you’re falling, falling, and you just keep falling forever, and at one point you stop screaming and ask yourself, “Huh… Haven’t I been falling for a while?”
That’s kinda like how I felt today playing with Tom Ford Beauty’s new Eye Color Quad in Emerald Lust ($75).
Girl, can I just say that Tom and I had a really good time? 🙂
Who says teal eyeshadows should be reserved for special occasions? I think not! How about a special occasion like this: Tuesday. There’s your special occasion, LOL! Tuesday makes teal totally legit.
Now, before we proceed, a little backstory first…
When the Tom Ford Beauty line launched last fall, it had all the makings of a top-tier, high-end makeup brand (read: hella expensive premium products and luxurious packaging), and since then, it has exceeded my expectations. If ya lust after luxury lines, there’s some bonafide treasures here.
Do you recall the look we took a couple weeks ago at the new fall collection? Here’s a reminder: it was intense! Tom turned up the volume on everything this time around, with eye, lip and cheek colors so strong they could be called Herculean.
The entire collection is a color lover’s dream come true, and if said color lover happens to bold teal, fuchsia and plum, it’s like a great dream times 12 (starring shirtless Ryan Gosling, Ryan Reynolds and Jeremy Renner).
Now where were we…? Oh, yeah: lust! Emerald Lust, with its shimmery teal, blue, green and gold.
Glitter, pigment and shine? With this quad, Tom didn’t hold anything back. You can forget about blending into the background when you’re wearing this on your lids; there are no shy violets here.
As for the quad’s other bonafides, I have absolutely no issues with fallout, and I also find that blending these shadows is a breeze…
I don’t know how else to put it: I really, really love this quad. It’s the kind of makeup I’d want to wear when I want someone to notice I’m wearing makeup (does that make any sense?).
The main problem is the price, and it’s a pretty big problem. $75 big. My only other major gripe is with the shadows appearing to settle, ever so slightly, into my fine lines after a few hours, but that’s not an unusual complaint for shadows as shiny as these.
Could be worse… I mean, a primer definitely helps. When I use one, the migrating stops, and the shadows stay put on my combination dry/oil skin for at least 8-9 hours.
So, so expensive, but if you love dramatic teals and blues and glossy finishes, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed by Emerald Lust.
PRICE: $75 (!)
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Neiman Marcus stores and neimanmarcus.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (it’s impossible to overlook that price)
I was so excited that I almost fell asleep!
I feel like I need to tell you that I literally jumped for joy — JUMPED! — when I spotted these boxes of the new Sleepytime Peach Tea in Target the other day.
I’ve been drinking Sleepytime for years and have a cup almost every night before bed. I’ve always liked the Vanilla one, but I cannot wait to try the peach one tonight. 🙂
Onward and upward, friend! Tomorrow we reach the hump.
Hope you had a great day today. See you again soon.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Wow, in the words of our beloved Tim Gunn “that’s a lot of look!” But, in a really beautiful way. Don’t know that I could rock that particular look with my coloring, but I could see mixing these shades with some nice neutrals. The quality sounds great.
Sleepytime Peach, huh? I may have to try that. My current love is a Hazelnut Chai by Zhena’s Gypsy Tea that I found at Ross recently. So yummy!
Karen says
Hi Heidi,
Have you been watching this season’s Project Runway? I dunno if I’m being hyper-vigilant, but I’m afraid something’s wrong with Tim. 🙁 I dunno…he just doesn’t seem as perky as usual.
Heidi says
I’ve definitely noticed that Tim is not the usual vibrant Tim we’re used to. Let’s hope he’s just burnt out from having too many projects going. I believe he just released new book, and he was a part of that talk show for awhile that didn’t last long.
Other than that, I’ve enjoyed this season. We’re heading into the finale with people who can actually sew! (Go, Dimitri!)
Teri says
It’s quite an interesting palette, but you really made it work! Thanks for the honest review though, the price point is really high and I can imagine that it’s not completely perfect, but the vibrancy of the colours aree gorgeous!
Karen says
Hi Teri,
Thanks! 🙂
Tanya says
I love your eyes, eyeshadow tutorial please!
Karen says
Hi Tanya,
Believe it or not this was actually really easy. Let me put it on my list of things to write. 🙂
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
WOW–that is a bright, vibrant, sexy look! You totally rock the bold eyes and lips trend!
Karen says
Thanks, boo!
Anonne says
Gorgeous, gorgeous. Teal is something that works very nicely on warm skin tones like yours (and mine). I love my Nars Cleo because of that. This set is so droolworthy, but way too expensive for me. But it certainly looks BOSS.
Karen says
Hi Anonne,
Thanks for reminding me about Cleo! I don’t think I have it yet in my collection. 🙂
Have you tried any of Tom Ford’s eyeshadows yet? They’re so expensive but very indulgent.
Sonya says
WOW, the shades are so vibrant and jewel-like – Beautiful!
Karen says
Hi Sonya,
Yes! Do you think you might give these a go?
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
My jaw dropped! SO pretty!!! We don’t get TF quads here yet, and these aren’t colors I’d normally reach for, but darn it’s SO gorgeous!
Karen says
You gotta start reaching for those bold colors, girl!
Nina says
Throat Tamer is my best friend during the drier fall/winter months. 🙂
The quad is pretty. Very pretty. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Nina,
I have still yet to try that flavor! When it comes to throat teas I love Throat Coat. I actually drink it even when I don’t have a sore throat because it tastes really good. 🙂
Hope you’re having a nice Wednesday so far. Halfway to the hump!
Jennifer says
I was a tad scared of the teal but wow so stunning on! I love love it! It’s pretty amazing looking on!
Karen says
Hi Jennifer,
Thanks. 🙂 You can do teal! I used to be scared of it too…try it on the lid, or as a liner along the upper or lower lash line.
OrangeLipstickBlog says
Wow! What a bold look! The colors are gorgeous but I could buy so much more with my $75!
Karen says
Hi OrangeLipstickBlog,
Yeah…unfortch Tom isn’t known for his bargains. Maybe one day he’ll be nice enough to do a sale!
OrangeLipstickBlog says
Lol @ “unfortch!” I need to adopt that saying!
Leigh says
Oh My! I thought UDs Vice palette had some luscious and bright colors, but these are gorgeous! *sigh* wish I could afford Tom Ford! (btw I love that eye look Karen!)
Karen says
Hi Leigh,
Yup, these are real deal BRIGHT. I wish Tom Ford would do a sale! That would be awesome. 🙂
Did you end up snagging the Vice Palette, btw?
Leigh says
Yes! It will set me back for a while but worth it! I was also thinking about hauling one of the gloss stick things but no too much money! I have silver and gems to pay for first, lol. Oh and if only TF would do such a sale. And btw, where in the world did the idea that us brown-eyed girls couldn’t wear blue or blue-toned eyeshadow? Talk about hiding a brilliant combination! 🙂
Kim says
You had me at “shirtless” and “Jeremy Renner”. HAHA! These colors are seriously beautiful. Way too bright for (little, brown-loving) me, but they’re gorgeous both in the pan and in your FOTD. I actually had a dream last night that I was wearing a pink, cream shadow and tried to do a cat eye with black liquid liner. It was scary and a reminder that I needed to check in to see what was happening in the REAL makeup world this week. 🙂 Good deal on the peach tea. I’m a fan of Apple Cinnamon with some honey. PS Loved Seattle – what a beautiful city!
Karen says
I think you could do pink with cat eye liner. All you’d need are MAC Expensive Pink eyeshadow, MAC Blacktrack Fluidline and the Sonia Kashuk Bent Brush. I have faith in you, grasshopper!
Ya know, I don’t think I’ve ever tried Apple Cinnamon before. Is it very cinnamon-y? Sometimes when teas are too spicy I can’t handle it.
Glad to hear you enjoyed Seattle. How was the weather? Were you lucky enough to get some sunshine?
Lydia L says
Karen, u look awesome!! I adore those colors….and I luv Tom Ford!!! Have a great week!!!
Karen says
Thanks, Lydia! XO
Yelena says
you look goregous karen! but lets talk about tea baby! is it beneficial to have tea before bed? does it soothe you? or does it help with digestion? hmmm…just curious 🙂
Karen says
Hi Yelena,
I find it very soothing! I drink herbal tea before bed, usually some sort of chamomile blend. I’ve tried a bunch of different teas and Sleepytime’s my favorite. I think part of it’s the herbs doing their thang, and part of it’s the act of sitting on the couch and sipping on tea. It’s like a ritual that tells my body’s it’s time to unwind.
If you have trubs sleeping I highly recommend it.
Crystal says
I gotta get that tea I’m crazy about anything peach flavored! The palette looks beautiful. I’ve tried a few things from Tom Ford and they’ve been great. I gotta go for a palette one of these days!
Beth says
it reminds me a lot of the Armani Ecailles palette! I already have that one for the colors and beautiful compact, but probably would consider trying out tom ford cosmetics with this palette!
Vonvon says
Gotta say th colors are quite summery, reminds me of NARS Cap Ferrat trio. And I have a Japanese eye shadow palette with similar colors from Coffret d’or.
Miyuki says
Hello there!
I just discovered your blog while searching this shadow palette. I am IN LOVE! And I don’t want to whine (actually maybe I do a little bit).. but geez. I’m from Australia and you think $75 is pricey?? *cries* I just paid $99 for it here! Looked everywhere on the web but no online stores will sell Tom Ford products to Australia (some restrictions).
Anyway.. love your blog! Now… those TF red lipsticks… omg
Heather L says
This is absolutely my favorite new TF quad – I’m all about the bright colors! But I’m going to pass on $20 per eyeshadow and get the new Natasha Denona palettes for $240 – working out to about $8 per shadow including colors like these. Looking at the Viseart Editorial too – same price but more shades as this TF. But when I hit the lottery I’m getting this!!!
