A few days ago I made a wish, and this week it came true. I wished for a new purse gloss, and it appears a genie was listening.
What’s a purse gloss, you ask? It’s a gloss that’s worthy of permanent residence in your purse. You keep it close for touch-ups and other beauty emergencies…like when you randomly run into your ex and his new lady love at the mall (she’s cute, but you’re cuter), or when a TV crew asks you for an impromptu sidewalk interview about hot dog street vendors (yep, that really happened).
With a tube of Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Genie ($32) in your purse, you’ll be tough to catch off guard. One of two Rouge Allure glosses in Chanel’s limited edition Le Perles de Chanel collection for spring 2011, it’s a shiny but wearable coral with golden micro glitter and comes in Chanel’s trademark Extrait de Gloss formula. Non-sticky, luscious, hydrating, and lacking any potentially bothersome scents or flavors, it’s ready for drama AND flexibility. With a four-hour wear time, it’s also designed to laaaast.
The color’s fun and playful, but it’s also one of the most wearable shades I’ve seen this spring season so far. Sure, the traditional seasonal rules say it’s too early for shiny coral lips, but rules are meant to be broken. This Genie wants out of her bottle, babe. 🙂

Hey now, you’re a rock star!
Last night after the Glee Christmas episode (Did you catch it? If you did, what did you think?), I ended up watching an old Marky Mark and Jennifer Aniston movie I must have missed when it first came out called Rock Star.
Mark plays a man obsessed with butt rock metal band Steel Dragon, LOL! Sure, it’s corny, but I love light and fluffy corn. And Jen’s makeup and hair looked FAB, as usual (I’m convinced she’s got a glamor clause in her contract)!
The movie takes place between the late ’80s and the early ’90s, with the main character getting involved in the Seattle music scene, which kinda put me in the mood for Soundgarden today.
Remember this oldie?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I love your scarf! Where’s it from?
me, myself and I says
it is way cute! i can’t bring myself to pay $32 but maybe i need to try it in the store for more convincing.
Karen says
You should totally try this gloss! If you don’t like the color there’s some other really nice ones too. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Lisa,
I got it as a present a few years ago from my brother. I think he got it at H&M.
LRW says
why are they listing Genie as LE? I bought this a few months ago..it is beautiful, year round.
Karen says
Hmm, I don’t know. I really hope they aren’t making it LE!

so pretty… I should have a Saks gift card on its way to me and I think I’ll splurge on my first Chanel item…. just gotta decide what to get!
BTW I got bella bamba after your review and I LOVE it! it’s the perfect pink!
Karen says
Have you sniffed it yet? Doesn’t it smell good? I love those extra touches!
Tiffany says
Yeah me too – love yummy smells!
Natalie says
Woo Genie looks more pink on your lips! It looks more coral on mine 🙂
Oh man, I can’t get enough of Extrait de Gloss! I keep trying Rouge Lacque, but end up buying Extrait de Gloss intead! They are way more pigmented and long lasting.. I need to buy more!
Karen says
It’s amazing how colors can look so different on people, right?
I kinda wish this one was more coral on me… I might have to try layering a coral lip liner beneath it. I’m thinking MAC Summerfruit.
Anywho, I keep wanting to love the Rouge Lacques too, but they migrate like crazy on me!
Jeannine says
I love coral lip colors! They are very versatile.
Karen says
Me too. Do you have a favorite coral gloss?
gabsta says
That lippy colour is stunning on you!!
Karen says
Thanks, Gabsta.
Do you wear a lot of corals?
Rae says
Genie looks fab on you, Karen! I can’t imagine it would look $32 worth of lovely on my lips, though — corals tend to pull too much of a warm orange on me :s Non-sticky and hydrating though? Sounds like my kinda formula!
Karen says
You wear berries well right? Emoi might be more your style.
makeup morsels says
lol! I think my purse gloss would have to be Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Glossy Rose. I lovee this color, it’s definitely got me thinking of spring even with all this pouring rain.
My Funny Valentine says
I love the formula of the Extrait de Glosses and Genie looks great on you! I really love my corals so will def get the boyfriend (the makeup mule) to pick one up for me when he is overseas next.
snoopysteph says
An Extrait de Gloss is on my Chanel wishlist – I don’t think this shade would be good for me though. Maybe Emoi instead! Corals tend to look orangey on me for some reason (and I’m NW20).
Tasha says
I GOT THIS ONE!!! I love it!!!! looks good on you
Amee says
Very beautiful shade… you looking very pretty dear 🙂
Nina says
