Will Your Lips Take a Shine to Dior’s Addict Extreme Lipsticks?

Like a pretty beach bikini, Dior’s shiny new $30 Addict Extreme Lipsticks are saucy and bold, but still leave a little something to the imagination. Lightweight and glassy, they provide just enough pigment and coverage to stand out without overpowering the sheer blushes and eyeshadows we’ve been seeing so much this spring.

Available in 17 moderately moisturizing shades, they’re just the kind of lippies I like to wear around this time every year, when I grow a little weary of fall and winter’s heavy mattes and full-coverage products.

Designed to go the distance with a long-wearing formula, they’re also supposed to have a lip-plumping effect, but per usual, my lips must be immune…

One thing I do notice about these is how great they feel. I love the texture! They’re so smooth that I almost forgot about the $30 price, and they’re pretty hydrating, too, although I do like to layer a little lip balm underneath.

If I had to compare them to something, maybe the Chanel Rouge Coco Shines, except I think those are a little more moisturizing.

Dior bills these as long-wearing, but I dunno about that. I have to reapply after every meal, and even when I’m just sitting at my desk watching cat videos and sipping tea, I find myself reaching for a tube every hour or so to touch up.

I’m also not enamored with the oval shape of the tip. Not sure exactly why, but it feels a little awkward to me, especially when I’m trying to apply at the corners of my mouth.

But those two things aside, I love how this lipstick looks, smells, tastes (a super faint rose scent/flavor) and feels. It’s just that for $30, I could go for a little longer wear. Three or four hours sure would be nice.

PRICE: $30
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to Dior stores and counters, and Sephora stores next month; available now online at sephora.com

Do you feel it? Abs-olutely!

You know that Jillian Michaels core workout DVD I mentioned doing yesterday? Well, I think it’s working, because I’m incredibly sore, and I could barely move when I got up this morning. To sit up, I had to use momentum to propel myself into a sitting position and do this full-body steam roller move, haha!

Shoot, I can still feel the ache now, and I’m just sitting here in my chair breathing. :) I guess this is what I get for neglecting my core for, ya know, ever.

But other than walking around like a little brown Frankenstein today, things are going well. I hope you had a nice day today.

In other news, I’ve been singing, “I wanna know what love is… I want you to show me!” all afternoon (got it stuck in my head after watching The Voice last night), and I have a suggestion if you’re in the mood to laugh.

If you have a pet, try serenading him/her with that song tonight. Seriously, if you’re easily amused like I am, it’s frickin’ hilarious! Oh, the joy…

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I know how you feel-I was unable to move after trying the P90X Core Basics. I hate banana sit-ups.

  3. Good lord, Karen!! Everything about these photos is absolute perfection – talk about classy ;) I love the way they’ve been shot (talk about g-l-o-w-i-n-g), and that grey-brown smokey eye is tdf. <3!

The Addict Extremes sound like a pass for me (I hate reapplying products, to be quite frank), but Black Tie *does* look gorgeous…

      Hi Paris,

I’ve been playing around with different lighting setups. I took this set without any flash using only late afternoon indirect light from a large window.

Can I ask? I know others have before lol what liquid and powder foundation are you wearing, eye shadow. You do look gorgeous!

Lucky looks amazing on you. Seriously.
Ah, the post-abs-workout-soreness. A tip for getting out of bed (unfortunately I speak out of experience): swing your legs over the side while laying on your side and then push yourself into a sitting position with your arms. That’s usually the only thing that works for me… hahahaha.

Again with the ultra glam photo sesh, I’m loving the look! Karen, be honest now, you can tell us the truth, are you cheating and using a professional photographer and airbrushing your skin in photoshop? Hehe

I like the idea behind these sheerer lipsticks that are in lately, last year with Chanel Coco Shines and Lancôme Absolu Nu, but I hate the horrible wear time. I have better results with some of the Revlon lip butters (okay, one out of two that I’ve bought), than with the high end sheer lipsticks!

  13. Paula says:

I have one of these lippies in the shade Plaza. I find that the glossiness of it doesn’t stay very long at but they do leave a stain on me. Also I find that these are extremely buildable without being goopy after a few layers. I like that because I can multiple looks from a single shade.

  14. J.Q. says:

you look so glamourous in the first photo Karen, I love it! :)
Lucky looks lovely on the lips and Black Tie seems really interesting, judging from it in the tube i thought it was going to be like clinique’s black honey, but I was really surprised to see it’s actually more of a vampy dark red on the lips

  15. Tiffany says:

Wow you look gorgeous! I’ll have to look into lucky. That shade caught my eye AND that’s my pup’s name :) I’ll have to try serenading him later :)

Ahhh core. I used to be just fine in this area, but even a year after my c-section I still feel weak. I tried the p90x core workout and essentially laughed through it because it was hilarious how hard it was for me. I’ll have to look into the JM one. Do you have a FAVE cardio DVD? I know you’ve talked about a few (like shred?) but I’m wondering what your top pick is? This last 6 lbsof baby weight REFUSES to go away :(

    • Karen says:

      Hi Tiffany,

I heard P90X is KILLER. I’m too scared to try it, to be honest!

For cardio DVDs, I’m still loving JM’s Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism. It’s only 40 minutes, and by the end of the session I’m dripping in sweat and I actually feel like I got in a vigorous workout.

Although I haven’t tried it yet, I’ve also heard great things about Turbo Jam from Beach Body:

Also, have you tried using a tracker like My Fitness Pal? I have it on my phone and it’s GREAT.

  16. Marieke says:

I’d love to re-apply Black Tie in public and see people staring at me like: wow, she’s gonna wear black lipstick?

  17. Katalin says:

Wow! You are stunning!! All three shades looks great on your skin tone! The darkest looks best with this eye shadow, but again, all three colors are amazing on you. Thank your for sharing! ;)

  20. Kim says:

Hello! :) Black Tie is gorgeous but I’m not crazy about the moderate moisture or short wear time that you described. I ended up getting Fresh’s Sugar lip treatment for my Sephora b’day gift and, so far, I think it’s one of my favorite lip products. Even balms seem to dry out my lips so I’m pretty happy that this one hasn’t!

I’m on a no-buy since…….10 minutes ago (just placed another nail polish order – sigh!) but Black Tie looks fab!

  25. Emily says:

Oh. my. gosh. Best photos of you yet. I LOVE your hair like that, and your makeup is perfection. I have an urge to go do a touch-up now (who am I kidding. A re-do.).

  26. Emily says:

Those colors look fabulous on you as always! You are gorgeous

  27. Oh lord, you look so classy with these lipsticks and that up-do! Perfection it is, Karen! I can’t wait to get these and have some fun with them. People keep telling me about Dior lipsticks, and I’ve been waiting for these to come out so I can try!
