The first time I laid eyes on the new Benefit B. Right skin care line, I did little grabby claws with my fingers in the air like a hungry baby and said “WANT!”
I gotta hand it to the Benefit babes working in the company’s Art/Marketing Department, because I think they have the pretty packaging part of this whole beauty thing down pat.
With B. Right, Benefit was careful not to mess with a good thing. They’re known and loved for making easy, accessible makeup, and that’s the philosophy they followed here. This isn’t their first foray into skin care, but it’s their first new skin care line in a while.
B. Right, which launches in April at Benefit stores and counters, doesn’t appear to be about billions of skin types and complicated multi-step routines. Here I see basic skin care at its best — cleansing, toning and moisturizing — with a focus on hydration and brightening. In fact, the fanciest thing about B. Right is probably something Benefit calls “Tri-Radiance Complex.”
(That’s secret beauty code for “a batch of ingredients that supposedly help the skin retain moisture.”)
This week, my breakout-prone combination skin and I have been trying five of the line’s eight products on for size. So far the two of us can definitely say we both like the creamy, luxurious textures and refreshing cucumber scent.
Here are details on some of the individual products in the line…
- Foamingly Clean Facial Wash ($21) — This foaming face wash for all skin types cleans the skin and dissolves makeup fast. After using it my face feels squeaky clean, but I’m not crazy about how it makes the dry parts of my cheeks feel taught. Oh, and the packaging warns against using it near the eyes, which means having to use a separate eye makeup remover with it. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B
- Refined Finish Facial Polish ($22) — I’m already hooked on this purifying polish and its combination of clay, seaweed extract and glycolic acid. The exfoliating grains are gentle, so they don’t rub my skin raw, but they do leave my face feeling soft, smooth and moisturized. I like this item a lot and hope it doesn’t give me breakouts (knock on wood!). I’ll keep you posted… MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A
- It’s Potent! Eye Cream ($32 for 0.5 oz.) — In addition to moisturizing, this eye cream is designed to fade dark circles and lines. Hmm. I haven’t really noticed a difference (to be fair, it’s only been two days), but if something miraculous happens, I’ll let you know. I do like how rich and hydrating it feels, and how it quickly the cream absorbs into the eye area. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+
- Total Moisture Facial Cream ($38 for 1.7 oz.)— I’m always a little nervous about trying new face creams, so I’ve been testing this one on my neck, and on a tiny patch of skin on my cheek. Despite it moisturizing like gangbusters, it doesn’t feel heavy or sticky at all, and, so far, no pimples. 🙂 the texture and scent, but I think my good ol’ standby, Clarins Hydraquench, offers more hydration to my thirsty, dry skin. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B
- Triple Performing Facial Emulsion SPF 15 PA++ ($28 for 1.7 oz.) — This oil-free, lightweight day cream offers broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection. It’s light and absorbs quickly, and doesn’t leave a sticky film on my neck (always a huge plus). The bottle seems kinda small for the price. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B
So far B. Right is doing right by me. I love the packaging, like the product philosophy, and see some nice products here — especially the exfoliator. Some of us sounded skeptical in the comments left on my first B. Right post. If you’re unsure, it might be worth asking for a sample to see how your skin reacts first (before making a purchase), and consider starting with a patch test on a small area of skin.
I can’t stop!
No joke, but I haven’t stopped playing Mike Posner’s Please Don’t Go for two straight days.
Baby, please don’t gooooo… 🙂
Now watch, you’re gonna be hooked too (sorry!).
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Seriously love that song…and the Wojo jacket!
Karen says
It’s like I can’t physically can’t stop myself from listening to it. Baby please don’t go, go, go, go…
steph b says
At least it is a good song to get stuck in your head. Hate it when that happens with annoying songs. My cubemate decided today was Kenny Rogers day. This is much much better.
Karen says
Sometimes I don’t mind Kenny. Islands in the Stream with Dolly is one of my faves.
OH, and speaking of annoying songs, I can’t stand when I get that song Birthday Sex stuck in my head. I just got back from picking up Chinese food and I heard it in the car… ARRGGH!
Tiffany says
These look so cute! The polish sounds especially great!
Karen says
It feels really good on the skin and smells yum too! What are you up to? I just got back from picking up Chinese food and am about to eat some egg drop soup, yum.
Tiffany says
Mmm Chinese food is so good. Last night we had a Chuck marathon on the couch. Have you ever seen the show? It’s pretty cute/funny.
Vijaya says
I’ve never heard that song before, but now I feel like it’s going to haunt my dreams. xD
Karen says
It’s catchy, right? They play it on the radio here every five minutes. It’s a good thing I like it, LOL!

I love love love the packaging!!! So cute:)
Karen says
Benefit always nails their packaging!

Love the song…and especially the Wojo jacket!
Perri says
wow the packaging is very cute. they definitely thought the whole design out.
skin care with scents worries me because i have such sensitive skin 🙁 I have to stick to cetaphil as my daily cleaner… boring!!
Makeup Morsels says
I love the packaging for this collection so much! Gotta check out that polish/scrub thing 🙂 hmm…should I listen and get hooked on the song? Yeah, I think I will.
Ashley says
I’ll have to sniff the entire line if you say there’s a cucumber scent. I dislike cucumber scented products but hopefully something magical happens & I fall for the scent! I really adore the packaging, it would a be shame it couldn’t rest on my bathroom counter 🙁
Nina says
I love how creative Benefit is when it comes to packaging 😀
Nina says
ill try and score samples and then report back to you! 🙂
Mandy says
The only bummer is that I see the products have parabens and silicones, which I swear silicones break me out 🙁 Totally sad cause the packaging is to die for!
Lindsay says
Karen, have you used Eyecon by Benefit before? If so do you know how this eye cream compares with Eyecon? I noticed on Benefit’s website Eyecon is not on there anymore so I am wondering if this is the same stuff??
Olga says
Curious about trying the eye cream… Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing! I’m always quite excited about new Benefit products. So far I liked their makeup much better than their skin care, but your review about the facial polish sounds amazing. Hopefully I can score a sample!
Liz says
I’m interested to try the polish. Keep us updated if you keep using the products!
Kim says
Thank you for daring to try out the new skincare stuff. It’s always a gamble with acne-prone skin. I think the cartons for the products are super cute, but I really dislike the bottles and faux cork caps. I’m vastly in the minority here, I know! 🙂
