Before I dive into V.I.M.R.I. (Very Important Makeup-Related Information) — aka why you should make room in your work purse for the new $48 Estée Lauder Pure Five Color EyeShadow Palette in Pretty Naughty — first, a question.
Do you ever mess around with song lyrics to make weird cover songs about your pet?
Anyone? Bueller?
El Hub and I have been doing it lately with the words to Bell Biv DeVoe’s Poison…
One of us will start by singing, “Tabs drivin’ me out of my mind, that’s why it’s hard for me to find…” and then the other person jumps in, “Can’t get Tabs out of my head. Miss Tabs, kiss Tabs, love Tabs (wrong move you’re dead). My cat is poison… POISON!!”
I know. Waaaaay too cat obsessed. 🙂
So let’s talk palettes instead! You might be thinking, “Heck, no. I don’t do pastels,” but hear me out.
I’m not always into pastels, either. Sometimes I think they’re just too light and chalky for my tan skin, but the smooth pastels in the Pretty Naughty palette are surprisingly intense, and they should show up well on light and dark skin tones.
Sweet.
This limited edition quint comes with three pastel shades (a matte sky blue, a shimmery soft pink and a shimmery violet) and two neutrals (a shimmery taupe and a glittery charcoal), and if you’re looking for, like, a palette you can wear to work, but you also want to have a little fun with color — not necessarily a hot pants/disco glitter/rhinestones on a Wednesday morning kind of fun, but more like a long Friday lunch break to look at shoes we can’t afford at Neimans — Pretty Naughty is the palette you’ll want in your makeup bag this spring.
From Monday through Thursday, I might wear the taupe/charcoal combo with a smidgen of black liner. It’s a classic combo with a soft shimmer to keep things exciting.
But come Friday, I’d want to spice things up, perhaps by patting one of the pastels on my lids, or lightly blending a small amount along my lash lines for a conservative flash of color. Either way would brighten my eyes fast.
My inner lazy girl (who holds a great deal of sway around here) loves how easy this quint is to use. A single layer atop NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, a few swipes back and forth with a blending brush, and I’m set for the day. No need for touchups.
PRICE: $48
AVAILABILITY: Coming next month to Estée Lauder counters and esteelauder.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (the sky blue might not be everyone’s cup of tea)

That Sky Blue is WOW! I want it just for that shade! I can’t believe how pigmented it is. This is one spring palette that’s kind of on my list now! It looks amazing on you!

I really love the neutral colors, very pretty.

The title of this post cracks me up 🙂
I don’t own any pastels…they always make me think of Easter eggs! Perhaps I should give them a shot. Being quite fair I’m always worried if colors will wash me out more.

Your eyes are GLOWING! in the main pic for this post! and the song re-writing is totally normal…We are constantly changing the words for all songs to be about our baby…he’s almost 18 months and has no idea…obsession (or love) is a strong force!!! <3

DEFINITELY not my cup of tea. I think the color combos look a bit tacky… the neutrals look gorgeous on you though!
eRiN says
YES, I do that very same thing, with both my cats’ names and varying nicknames!! Some songs are just not good for that though, like Set Fire to the Rain …

Wow these colors look great on. How do you know how and where to apply colors to make them look so great?
Patty says
I may or may not (read: definitely) make my dog’s front legs dance around while I sing Rihanna’s “Hard,” which I’ve decided is her theme song.
She isn’t amused, but I sure am! And isn’t that really what matters?
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
The neutrals and the violet are absolutely beautiful! I don’t think the 2 other pastels are really my style, but they’re gorgeous nonetheless!

I’m a bit scared I can’t use the blue shades too well, but I LOVE how they look on you!

Loving the neutral shades taupe and charcoal! Dang, its so hard and not run out and buy everything! Ol hub is getting ready to cut my makeup buying off! He just doesn’t understand!

I’m NC42 too with pigmented eyelids. Pastel shades and all cool toned shades, including dark ones, just don’t show up well on my eyes. The true colour of these shades just doesn’t show. Any suggestions as what I should do/use?

Dare I say … Spring is in the air?

Yes! One of our cats is super speedy so we sing “Rocketman” when she speeds through the house and especially down the stairs (except of course it’s Rocketcat or Rocketgal).
In other news, the palette is very nice. I couldn’t wear lavender if my life depended on it, but it looks pretty on you!

Ha! I love singing songs to the cat! We’re also good on making up songs for the cats that get in our backyard to eat the cat food. And we make up songs to sing to the kids. There is a lot of baaaad singing in this house! I love the way you did your makeup, I want to recreate it! It’s fabby!
Cindy (Prime Beauty) says
I like the versatility of this palette as long as none of shades are chalky–I’m in!
