I’ve seen naked runners before…although I kind of wish I hadn’t, because one of the guys had the word “slut” tattooed on his butt in American Typewriter, and now I’ll never be able to see American Typewriter the same way, but that’s what happens when you run the Bay to Breakers…
This is only marginally related to the new Naked On the Run palette by Urban Decay. 🙂
UD pretty much covers everything here with the exception of your base makeup and brows. There’s something for eyes, lips, cheeks and lashes, and most of the colors are brand new.
This look here actually didn’t take long at all, and I used five of the six shadows. I’d already put on foundation and filled in my brows, but I sprinted through the eyes, cheeks, lips and lashes.
I set the stopwatch on my phone because I wanted to see how long it would take to do a blown-out neutral smokey eye — something I know I wear a lot — and I wanted to use more than one lid shade.
I ended up using five! Then I lined and smudged my lash lines with the included liner, coated my lashes with Perversion, did the bronzer, blush, and because I’m a ho for highlights, I used the 5050 eyeshadow as a highlighter. After that, I finished with gloss (Sesso) and checked the timer.
It said 12 minutes. Eyes, cheeks, lips and lashes in 12 minutes flat.
Sweet!
Twelve minutes for a look I know I’ll wear a lot (I already do), and one big reason for that is the shade selection. Like BECCA’s Ombre Nude Eye Palette, the eyeshadows are pretty similar to each other, especially the four brown workhorse shades (two are mattes and two are shimmers), so it’s easy to transition from one to another.
There was some fallout from the eyeshadows, but that’s to be kind of expected from Urban Decay. I cleaned things up as well as I could but decided to just roll with some of the leftover glitter.
UD has a pretty good palette here, good for travel (so now you can get naked in foreign places, haha), with lots of neutrals, and nothing with too hard of an edge.

I really like the looks of this. I might be too fair for the bronzer, but I could use it as another eyeshadow shade.
Karen says
Hi Rachel R.,
That’s a great idea. It would make a lovely transition shade, or even as an all over the lid shade smudged on top of the liner for a quick smokey eye.
Do you currently use/love any of UD’s Naked Palettes?
Rachel R. says
I have Naked Basics, Naked2 Basics and I love them and use them frequently. I don’t have the full palettes, though. I have one of the Flushed palettes. It’s OK.
Grace says
50/50 is not meant to be a highlight for cheeks?
Karen says
Hi Grace,
Nope, it’s an all over base eyeshadow. I just used it as a highlighter.
Grace says
Ah I see, ok it being next to the blush got me confused.. thanks for fyi 🙂
Karen says
Yeah, it’s kind of a weird placement. Still, I’m loving on the big pan! I usually go through base colors like that quickly. 🙂
Michelle C. says
I can’t think of a more brilliant way to begin this review. Brava.
… If you had showed me the swatches and told me it was Naked1 I would have believed you. They look identical.
Karen says
Thank you Michelle C! I hope it made you laugh! 🙂
Agata says
Ohh, I love it. Nothing ground breaking in terms of unique shades but I like the idea of having all these products in one palette. Good thing my birthday is around the corner 😉 hopefully someone will figure out I need it 🙂
Karen says
Ha! I end up making a list for El Hub. Otherwise I end up with electronic birthday presents, LOL.
Agata says
Ha ha, same here!
Karen says
The guys in my life show their love with things that involve a motor, haha. Or, they just want to give a gift that they can end up playing with themselves!
Jen C says
Oh I’m so excited to see this one, Karen! It really looks like a well-thought out palette, I like that 5050 looks bigger than the other eye shadows and the lip gloss looks pigmented enough!
Karen says
Hi Jen C,
Yes! I love how the base shade (5050) is bigger too. I always go through that color the fastest in palettes, it seems. And as a highlighter it’s pretty good too. 🙂
Do you have any of the other Naked palettes? If you do, which one is your fave? The one I end up using the most is the original version.
Jen C says
Hi Karen!
I only own the Naked 3, which I love, though I wish I can get the shade ‘Trick’ to show up on me, which is a surprise because no one seems to have a problem with it except me! My other beloved palette is the Lorac Pro Palette. Love the matte shades on that one, though it has fallout too, but at least it’s much more pigmented to me, so a little goes a long way 🙂
One quick question, does the bronzer on this palette run orange or too light on you? I’m asking as you seem to be using it as blusher (on your cheeks).. thanks a million!
Karen says
Hey Jen!
I’d say the bronzer is more of a golden bronze, and that it’s just a shade or two darker than my skin tone (I’m an NC42 in MAC-speak). I use it more for all over warmth than straight up contouring. If you have any more Q’s about it please ask!
Also, for Trick from Naked 3 — have you tried applying it with a wet brush?
Jen C says
Hey Karen!
Thanks for your reply! The contour shade sounds good for me then – I’m around NC25.
Yes I did try applying ‘trick’ wet and it helped but still not well as I’d like..
Thanks so much for the info! Hope you have a good day!
Karen says
Hi Jen!
Oh, then it should definitely work for ya then. It’s nice and matte, too, so you’ll be able to do a sharper contour if you want.
Bummer that applying Trick wet didn’t really work for you. Hmm… OK, is the texture of the shadow hard? Because it may have sealed over when you used a wet brush. You may have to scrape off that top layer in order to get to the softer stuff underneath.
Sylvia says
I’m a little “naked” out but those eyeshadows sure are lovely.
Karen says
LOL, Sylvia. Yeah, UD’s really been building out the Naked line. I do have to say that I like how there’s lots of wearable makeup options with a bit of a edge.
Estefania says
I saw this in the morning and thought it looked irrelevant. Now, I’m falling in love with those colors!! And that gloss!
Karen says
Hey cutie pie!
Did you have fun in NY with mom? And how much damage did your wallet sustain from visiting Tom Ford?
Happy (late) Monday to you. 🙂
Estefania says
Hi, Karen!
It was a blast! Got to see Rupert Grint and Idina Menzel in the flesh! Plus a whole bunch of other super talented people. It was amazing. Surprisingly, my wallet left the TF counter unscathed! My mom was sweet enough to treat me to a lipstick (Pussycat, of COURSE) and Ravish blush! She also picked up one of the lip shines for herself. I did buy some stuff at Sephora (Nars Sheer Glow) and MAC! (163 brush and Bright Forecast highlight pen).
I can’t wait to go back! We went to the counter at Bergdorf’s and the SA was SO SWEET. We just asked to try on the lipsticks and he did a whole makeover on both of us!
Karen says
Glad to hear you two girls had fun! I think there’s something about watching a great show that’s really invigorating. It makes the world seem like a happier, brighter and more musical place.
How sweet of your mom to treat you to a TF lippie and blush Have you worn either of them yet?
Oh, and kind of jelly that you can wear Sheer Glow. It settles into my pores, le sigh! I do love the finish though.
Estefania says
I totally agree. I always leave musicals feeling happier!
Absolutely. My mom’s been stealing Ravish in the mornings, so I’ve only worn Pussycat lipstick so far! haha
Oh no! I tried it this morning with the Smashbox Pore Minimizing Primer and that seemed to help!
Jennifer says
I didn’t know Urban Decay made shoes too! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Jennifer,
I’m not sure if the shoes are available for purchase; I got them as a gift. If I see them on the website I’ll let you know!
Stephanie says
I own all the Naked palettes so when I first saw this I thought I would pass. At first glance it didn’t look like anything new. I really like these colors and I like how small it is. I have last years Anarchy & Shattered face cases and I like how easy they are to travel with but I don’t think either of them are good stand alone palettes. I think this one would be. *sigh* I wasn’t going to ask for all makeup for Christmas & birthday!
Karen says
Hi Stephanie,
Totally with you on this being a fabulous stand-alone palette. Do you travel often? I wish I could go on more trips!
Stephanie says
We used to travel more frequently. The last few years we haven’t due to job changes and last year we lost two cats a month apart (that cost a fortune). We took our first big vacation in a few years last month. I took way too much makeup with me and ended up forgetting some items I really wanted to bring! So this idea appeals to me, it seems like it would be almost foolproof.
Karen says
Sorry to hear about your kitties, Stephanie. I bet that was hard. Sending you hugs!
Stephanie says
Thank you. It was awful, it’s never easy, for my husband and I they are like our kids.
heidi says
OMG, i want this palette even more!! you are my go-to makeup guru for new products because we have the same skin tone! i love you, Karen.lol =)
Karen says
Hi Heidi,
Well aren’t you sweet! Love you back. 🙂
Do you have any of the palettes from the Naked series?
Heidi says
Yes, i have Naked2 and Naked3! But i still don’t know how to match the colors, call me a newbie!lol =)
Karen says
Hi Heidi,
The easiest is to grab one of the palettes, and pick three colors that you like (any three). Do the lightest shade on the lid, the medium shade in the crease and the darkest shade either in the outer corner or as smudged along the lash lines as a liner. It’s a fool-proof way to work any palette. 🙂
heidi says
i will definitely play with the colors this weekend, thank you for tip Karen!! =)
Katherine M says
This is without a doubt an awesome kit! I would totally use it for travel and I would throw it in my purse for touch ups or for when I needed a quick kit. I like that it can give you a sexy but professional look quickly. It has just about everything except for base and concealer, and maybe a finishing powder. But all of those things would be easy to throw into a makeup bag with Naked On The Run! It definitely saves time in the makeup-bag-packing department.
Karen says
Hi Katherine M,
Yes! I’m now wishing that I had a fun trip to take this on. I’ll probably end up taking it with me when I visit family over the holidays.
Do you have any plans yet for Thanksgiving or Christmas?
Kay Cake says
This is cute :3 The lip gloss looks gorgeous on you!
Karen says
Hi Kay Cake,
Thank you! 🙂 Are you currently a fan of any of the Naked palettes?
Tiffany says
I want this palette SO badly!! I love everything about it… except maybe the bronzer
Karen says
Hi Tiffany,
You can always use the bronzer as a matte eyeshadow. I plan to also use it as a transition color. 🙂
Sun says
Wow, this looks like a great palette; the colors are gorgeous! I so don’t need another palette, but this is so pretty!
TSalamat says
I want this. I just purchased the Lorac Pro To Go Eye/Cheek Palette. I originally purchased it because I travel a lot and I need an all-in-one travel palette. The Lorac one I have has good pigmentation; however, it’s so chalky that it ends up messing up my clothes (and bag) as I sit down and apply it. Going to give this one a go although I think the bronzer is a bit too light for my skin. Thanks for the review! 😀
LindaLibraLoca says
Getting nude in foreign places sounds like fun.
I have heard great things about the Perversion mascara, how did you like it?
Kiss & Make-up says
I think they did a great job with this palette! I would not be disappointed if someone decided to give me this for Christmas, tee hee 🙂
Tammy says
I don’t need this, but I really want it!! 🙂
gio says
I didn’t think the colours looked like much in the pan, but they are really lovely. It would be a great Christmas present.
Erin says
I’ve been loving Stag because it’s not too warm!
Alexis says
I know I should buy this as a gift for either my sisters or cousin but I know it’ll just end up on my bathroom sink used by yours truly. Okay, I’ll just have to buy an extra palette…D’OH!!!
Elena says
I am still iffy on the palette…love the shoes though! I would run in those! I have a ridiculous hoard of palettes and eye products. I probably shouldn’t buy this (but probably will).
Krista says
I’ll definitely be skipping this one!! I’ll probably see it in store and be tempted to get it just because it’s by UD but I’m going to try to restrain myself! I don’t love the gloss, I have a gazillion of those liners in similar shades and all the eye shadows are dupeable. Oh well.
Majick says
OMG – I had to scroll back up to see what shoes everyone was talking about. LMAO I’m a mess! haha
I was hoping I could pass on this. I really don’t need it but it really looks great and I like that the colors are mostly new? If someone were to pick it up as a gift I certainly wouldn’t complain but like Krista I’m going to try to maintain some assemblance of restraint.
ANd, if you ever find yourself in Central Jersey, look me up and come for a visit. 😀
Stefi says
The colors are really pretty and neutral, I think they would look good on anyone and I guess you can’t really go wrong with this palette. I whish the lip color would have been a bit more pigmented but it’s pretty anyways.
Love, Stefi
Shyla says
After reading your review and seeing how good it looks I am so sold!
Gracia says
Hi Karen!
I am new to make up (I only use The Body Shop BB Cream and a little of compact powder up to this morning) and I’m looking for a pallete that is easy to use.
I read some of your entries and I am interested with Naked On The Run, In The Balm of Your Hand, and The Balm Voyage 2.
I think I would love to have NOTR’s eyeshadows and lip gloss. But I think the bronzer will look orange on my face since my skin is on the yellowish side.
And for both ITBOYH and TBV2, I like their cheek colours, but I don’t like the eyeshadows.
Pretty please help me to choose between those two ? thanks~
