I was so confused today because I thought this was Urban Decay’s fall collection, and not the holiday collection, which is what it is.
I know that sounds really dumb…but in my defense, it’s 80 degrees outside! I’m wearing shorts and a tank top. I guess my mind just couldn’t make the leap to snowmen, Christmas trees and wearing mittens.
Heck, I don’t even have shoes on!
Be that as it may, it is holiday time in Urban Decay Land (ho-ho-ho!), so let’s don our mittens, our earmuffs and our J. Lo “Jenny from the Block” coat, and take a look. 🙂
There are a couple of palettes in the release, some new liners (which I’m not crazy about, but I’ll get into that in the video) and a highlighter.
I have no idea how any of it fits with the holidays because, you know, there’s a lot of black in it and references to oil slicks, and nothing that seems particularly holiday-esque, but we’re just gonna go with it. 🙂
There’s a lot more info in the video, but as a quick overview, one of the two palettes is called Vice4 because, apparently, the world needs more vices (with my biggest one right now being Three Twins ice cream).
It has a lot of things UD is known for, like great style and lots of color, but I’m more excited about the second palette, Urban Spectrum.
Let’s see… How should I describe it?
OK, you know how when you shine one of those prism things against a wall, you see a spectrum of colors? Well, that’s it. The palette houses a beautiful transition of gradients from greens to blues to purples, so when you open it up, you’re greeted by a rainbow. 🙂
The liners, I think I mentioned, and we’ll get into them in the video, along with the highlighter.
And all of it will be available at urbandecay.com starting September 12, and a little later at select Macy’s, Sephora and Ulta stores.
Enjoy the video, and thank you again for watching!

Great video! I did hear that the Urban Spectrum palette will only be available at UrbanDecay.com though. :(. If they did change that, I’d be thrilled! I have Ulta points to spend!
Karen says
Hi Cindy,
You’re right, it’s an online exclusive to urbandecay.com. Thanks for bringing that to my attention; I’ll put the info in the description box! 🙂

Love your videos, Karen! OMG I didn’t even know a new season of Project Runway had started WHAT!! Thanks for the heads up! I need to catch up! I can’t believe it’s holiday season already… I agree, the Spectrum palette looks like tons of fun! Hope to check it out when it releases 🙂

Interestingly the regular 24/7 navy pencil has always been the hardest for me, it breaks and shrinks and runs. So not that surprising that the blue in the new line is a pain.

Hey Karen! Thanks for the review. How does the total product weight stack up between the two eyeshadow palettes given they differ by only $5? The vice looks so much larger (and it’s such a pretty design this year) but I think the spectrum has prettier colors, overall. It even reminds me some of vice 3 (which I love).
Karen says
Hi Celia,
The Vice4 pans are 0.03-oz each (20 shadows total) and the Urban Spectrum Palette pans are 0.05-oz each (15 shadows total). HTH!
Rachel says
OMG how bad do I need Urban Spectrum?!
Erin says
Oh geez, the Vice 4 is so beautiful – kind of bummed you’re not super impressed with the shadow quality. I’m not a die hard collector but I’m crazy about my Vice 2 and Vice LTD. I’d be more excited about the Urban Spectrum (nice name) if the package wasn’t kind of fussy. I don’t have a vanity where it can just sit and be pretty, and I’m a little annoyed that UD seems to think I do, haha.
Kim says
Well, the packaging is lovely (even though it’s not very holiday-ish, as you say). And, the palettes look ginormous! Bummer about the liners. You know how I love my UD. 🙂

Ok after I recovered from fainting I read and absorbed this post…of course I knew about Vice 4 but the other….
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
my anniversary palette needs a friend.
Astrild says
OMG!!! It’s summer outside!!!! I’m not ready for fall, can’t think about Christmas.

I really love the look of the Spectrum palette, but I literally have six of the colors already from old UD palettes (mostly the 15th anniversary and Vice 1). But I really love the new Vice! Especially all those warm orange-y shades. This is the first Vice I’ve really liked since the first one, but I think I’ll wait it out and see if I get some Christmas money or gift cards because $60 is a lot!

Fabulous photos, Karen, of the whole line! Everything looks gorgeous. I know the new Spectrum palette will be gone in a heartbeat coz those shades are stunning. I’m wondering if I can wear them or if they are just too bright for me? At any rate, I can admire them. I’m really curious about the Waterline pencils. Is the formula different from 24/7 pencils? Did they last on you better than the existing pencils?
Karen says
Hi Allison,
I have swatches of the Spectrum palette in the video so you can get a closer look at them there; I think they’re bright but they’re still wearable brights, if that makes sense.
The Waterline pencils have a similar texture to the 24/7 Glide-Ons; they didn’t really stay on my waterlines.
Allison C says
Thank you, Karen, for the honest assessment of the Waterline pencils. Glad to know I can stick with all the pencils I own that don’t stay on, lol. At my age, I am concerned about wearing any shadow shades other than neutrals and light purples etc. but maybe I should try getting into using bright colors as accent shades in a larger look. I always forget to do that
Anastassia says
Nice palette. I think I want it.
Rebecca says
Oh I have a compulsion for all the UD palettes.
I can hardly wait. I think I will get both palettes and the pencils look interesting.
Andrew says
How is UD going to release a line of eyeliners made for waterline and not include a nude or highlighting shade? Come on, man. Not cool.
denise S says
I’m so feeling that Spectrum palette! Pretty sure I’ll be adding that to my collection!
Natalye says
great video! I have been eyeing the Urban Spectrum palette but the blues look too similar to me and I think I’ll be passing on it. Not impressed with the new Vice this year

How funny, earlier I absolutely loved the colors of Vice 4 and was “ehh” about the Spectrum palette, now my views have totally changed! The more I look at the Vice palette, the more I see how the colors really look disconnected from each other. It’s just an odd looking palette, too bad because the packaging is gorgeous. With the Spectrum palette, I don’t like the packaging, but I love the shades.
Erin says
I’m just not feeling much of this. Individual shades of the a few would be nice to have but it’s really not for me.
I was worried the pencils would be bad too!
Rachel R. says
I want both of the eye palettes. There are a lot of colors in Vice 4 I don’t have. I always use primer, so I think I’ll be OK with them. Spectrum looks incredible. I’m sorry to hear the waterline liner didn’t work out. It was a good idea.
