My brows and I don’t hold hands and sing songs around the campfire.
My brows and I don’t “hug it out.”
This is because my brows and I have dueling agendas. While they like the sparse spots that appear around their arches, I want brows that are fluffy and full.
While they like looking unfinished and being underwhelming, I want brows that give out high fives and say, “Haaay, GURL, HAAY!” when they enter a room.
This epic, ongoing battle for total and complete brow domination recently led me to try two new brow products coming soon from Urban Decay — one, a new line of Brow Beater pencils ($20 each), and the other a new line of Brow Tamer brow gels (also $20 each).
Both promise to bust out bad@ss submission holds on brows to wrestle them into place.
Because my brows are so unruly that it takes a team to wrangle them, I’ve been using both the new Brow Beater and Brow Tamer simultaneously to fill and shape, but if the battle with your brows is more of a testy skirmish than a mixed martial arts fight, you should be able to get good results from just one or the other.
If using both, I’ll usually start with Brow Beater, which comes with a super skinny twist-up brow pencil on one end and a spoolie on the other.
I like brow pencils with thin tips like this one because they make it easy to draw super fine hairs, resulting in a more natural brow look. This one also has a few other good things going for it, like a firm spoolie to skillfully corral unruly brow hairs, natural-looking colors and a hard texture. I feel that harder pencils are generally easier to wield and longer lasting than creamy ones (Brow Beater lasts all day).
If you like Anastasia’s Brow Wiz, you’ll probably also like this. They’re very similar.
Recommended for even the sparsest o’ brows. It’s $20 and coming soon in Taupe, Neutral Brown, Warm Brown and Dark. The shade I’m wearing here is Dark.
Then, after I’m done filling in my brows with Brow Beater, I’ll add some definition and soften the effect of the pencil by running one of the Brow Tamer gels through my entire brow from tip to tail. These are medium-hold gels for adding subtle color and leaving brows looking and feeling soft, so they’re best for ladies and gents who don’t want their brows to look too severe.
If you want something with firm hold and intense color, Brow Tamer may not be ideal. It’s $20 and coming soon in Clear, Taupe, Neutral Brown, Warm Brown and Dark. I bounce back and forth between Dark and Clear.

I always skip brow stuff. I just never notice anyone else’s eyebrows and assume no one notices mine!
JP says
I used to think the same! But ever since that one time I over plugged and needed something to cover up…..I cannot live without them anymore and also notice now when people don’t take care of their brows.
People often think I am sick if I go without my brows filled in. I don’t do anything fancy, just the pencil, takes 5 seconds haha
My brows are not as thick as some people, now I cannot live without them.

Your brows look great after you have used the brow products. I’ve been wanting to get a pencil to fill in my brows but I wasn’t sure which one to go for. It’s great that you get the brush on the end too to help soften the look. This product looks great & I will definitely be checking it out.
Best wishes,
Vanessa

Thanks, Vanessa. Also check out Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. It’s good too.

You’re brows are looking sharp! I really need to find a new brow product, I’m glad these are coming out, just in time!
Karen says
Thank you, Kelly! What brow product are you currently using?
Kelly B. says
I have a Paula Dorf powder trio that I use but one of my brows is weirdly less thick than the other and powder just doesn’t cut it sometimes 😀
Karen says
My brows are the same way! My left brow is naturally thicker than the right, so I have to compensate with product.
I haven’t tried Paula’s Trio but I have used brow powders before; they’re great for a more casual look. If you want more precision you might want to do a combination of the powder and a pencil. Fill in your brows with the powder, then add in some fine pencil strokes where you want more definition (when I do this I add into the arch and the tail). 🙂

I have the hardest time with my eyebrows. They’re so thick and have to be plucked and shaped regularly. Brow gel does help and I’ll have to check these out. BTW – I love the natural look here — what blush and lippie are you wearing?
Karen says
Hi Cherie,
It sounds like you have full brows like my BFF Jen. I’m so jelly! The grass is always greener on the other side, I guess. What brow gel are you currently using? I’ve used a bunch and currently my faves are Bobbi Brown’s and Anastasia Beverly Hills.
Oh, and thanks re: the look. I did something a little different for cheeks today. I highlighted the tops of my cheek bones with NARS Tribulation Blush and then bronzed the cheeks with Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Radiant Bronze Light.
The lip is Tom Ford Lip Color Sheer in Paradiso topped with Urban Decay Streak Gloss.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Cherie says
Yes, I do have full on full brows – sometimes I feel like I have a 5 o’clock shadow with them….I use Anastasia Beverly Hills in an effort to get them tamed. I have one brow that has a different growth direction than the other. I was just using the brow wax and just recently started to fill in my brows and tried the Laura Mercier brow pencil. I’m trying to get a more polished look esp when I have to go into meetings. I’ll have to try the Bobbi Brown brow gel – I’m not sure I’ve even seen it yet!
I’m going to have to try to what you did with your cheeks and lips. This is an absolutely glowing look and I love it.

……. 😮
I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THESE
My UD brow box has pan-bottom showing in two places…I love my brow box but i must try the new thingy!
Lulle says
I really like that the shade selection is based on warm vs neutral and not blonde vs brunette. I have problems finding a suitable shade with many brands that tend to make all their brow products warm. Warm browns look terribly unnatural on me, despite the fact that my skin tone is warm. I need neutral to cool shades and I’m glad UD has some in this launch!
Karen says
With you on the warm browns in the brows, Lulle. Every warm brown pencil I’ve tried always looks FUNKY! I think you will really like these. 🙂

Your brows look so fab!!!! Also, your. skin. How are you achieving such magic?!?!
India says
Which one do you all like better, the Anastasia or this Urban Decay one, I need to buy another brow pencil and didn’t know if I should try the Urban Decay one.

When I finish up my Wiz (ha!), I will definitely pick up a Brow Beater! You look so Cindy Crawford here, btw. BEAUTIFUL!
Vanessa says
I’m intrigued but dunno if they have the right color. I’m Anastasia brow wiz medium brown. I’m thinking of nyx ash brown micro pencil next. I’d consider this, but I don’t see a good match :-\
Katie says
The ash brown NYX pencil is awesome! I’m a dark brunette, but I always felt that the dark brown options out there made me look too severe, and the regular browns were too light, ash brown is a great in between shade.
Beti says
I’m a fan of the Anastasia Brow Wiz butI’m always looking for new brow products to try. The taupe shade looks like it would be perfect for blondes and I love that they come with a spoolie.

I already use and love ABH brow wiz. Is there any point in trying these?
Kiss & Make-up says
Interesting! I’ve been wanting to get a brown pencil for summer, I’ll look into these.

Nice! I’ve been using MAC’s skinny automatic pencil version and it keeps breaking off. I’m going to try one of these. Last month I decided to lighten my brows since I had my hair highlighted. Big mistake! About 25% of my brow hair came off with the bleach. Ugggh. At least they are starting to grow back.
Erin says
I like the effect! The taupe Brow Tamer looks hella light though!
