Of the many valuable lessons I’ve learned watching Game of Thrones, including 1) that dragons can’t really be tamed, 2) always bring a weapon to a wedding, and 3) stay away from places called King’s Landing, the most valuable lesson by far has been this: just say no to blood magic.
Because it never turns out right! I just think as a general policy, it’s wise to avoid it.
Thanks for the sage advice, George R.R. Martin. 🙂
While we’re at it, it’s probably also a good idea to avoid black magic. I mean, I may have been expelled from Hogwarts after one semester (my parents were so bummed!), but even I know that.
Of course, black magic as it pertains to makeup? — that’s a different story. By all means, feel free to allow Urban Decay’s new pigmented, silky smooth Black Magic 24/7 Glide-On Double-Ended Eye Pencil Set ($39) to cast its spell on yo’ lash lines.
This captivating kit comes with four dual-ended pencil liners. Each one comes with one of UD’s signature black liners (black cream Zero, smokey black Black Velvet, charcoal satiny black Black Market or blackest black matte Perversion) on one end and a different intense, colorful shade (deep brown matte Demolition, deep gray matte Smoke, dark eggplant Tornado or bright turquoise LSD) on the other.
This time, there are no new shades up in the mix. Zero, Black Velvet, Perversion, Demolition, Smoke and LSD are re-promotes from the permanent line, while Black Market and Tornado are re-promotes that previously appeared in other sets.
Even lacking new colors, I still think this set is pretty neat. Being dual-ended gives these pencils a slight edge over the ones in the new Ten set.
Unfortunately, the pencils themselves are tiny — 0.01 ounces each — which is even smaller than the 0.03-oz. minis in the Ten set.
How small is that?
Well, if I were forced to use these tiny liners by themselves and they weren’t dual-ended, and were just individual pencils, I’m pretty sure they’d be awkward to hold and almost impossible to use, especially after sharpening them a few times.
UD, by slapping pairs of pencils together into these duos, made them easier to control (feels like you’re holding a full-size pencil).
I’ve been wearing the 24/7 Glide-Ons for years, and they’re still staples for me, but I’ve been noticing that lately when I wear these liners on my upper lash lines, they seem to transfer up into my crease more readily than the Glide-Ons I’ve worn in the past.
Is it me or the pencils? I dunno.
Far as I know, they use the same Glide-On formula. I guess it could my changing skin (it’s super moody these days, going from dry one day to oily the next), but I mention it just in case. Food for thought.
You can find this Black Magic casting its spell online now and at Sephora, Ulta and select Macy’s stores.

I have such good luck with UD 24/7 pencils. I adore them and see to have a million of ’em including just about all of the shades in this cool set…except for LSD & Tornado. Wish I could get those two on a double-ended pencil!

As soon as UD comes to Switzerland – launch party this week! – I’ll get myself some UD eye pencils. I’ll probably just get the regular ones though.

I love double end pencils for travel. Demolitian and Perversion pencils are some of my favorites from Urban Decay. I’ll probably end getting this set.

OMG I thought I was the only one that was underwhelmed by the recent purchase of UD glide on pencils. I got perversion after all the hype and I gotta say – not impressed. is it black, sure, but does it stay put? not so much.
I rather my cheapo drugstore black EL (WNW, Revlon color stay) that will stay put and not let me look messy by the end of the day. sorry UD.

Yes, I also notice that the UD pencils seem to transfer into little creases in my eyelids, yet I still find these irresistible and easy to collect. I bought my first UD — an anniversary set, years ago. It must have had a few LE shades, (I am still searching to replace those) and then I bought a double ended set (inspired by disco?) Love those. So I probably will pick these up as well. Their black trumps the other brands, in my opinion!

First off, I love UD Glide on EL, BUT I have the same problem with it traveling into the crease 🙁
So no I only use them if I only want a thin line along the upper lash line. For anything more dramatic, I use Benefit They are Real liner!

Thanks for the review, I think all these would go well with my green eyes, but I particulary love the LSD one (although – not really that fond of the name 😛 )
I don`t have any problems with my 5 liners (Zero, Rockstar, Stash, Bourbon & Mildew) creasing on me – even without primer etc. So perhaps these would not either. To bad we don`t have UD stores here in Norway – I can`t go and swatch them. Unless I take a VERY lang walk over to the states… 😀
