“BOOM!”
Something exploded off in the distance across the Bay. “What was that?” my brother said, jumping an inch off the ground.
“Holy sh*t!” exclaimed El Hub.
Three three of us were just strolling along the water in downtown Sausalito last Saturday when it happened — a loud boom that rang out across the Bay.
I was wearing two new skin-lovin’ Urban Decay products at the time, B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray ($33) and their Eyeshadow Primer Potion Anti-Aging ($24). “If this is the end,” I said, “we should probably go rescue Tabs before the traffic [on Highway 101] gets too bad.”
Then the mental calculations started… How long would I be able to stretch out the makeup I had with me in my purse if this was, in fact, the start of something big (World War Z sprang to mind)? A week? Two weeks? A month?
Luckily, I was testing both of the new antioxidant products from Urban Decay and had them in my bag, a spray and a wrinkle-fighting primer, so it definitely could have been worse.
Priorities. #tmoney #makeup
We never figured out what caused the loud sound, but El Hub said that he thought it was a canon…
Don’t ask me why a canon would be firing in the San Francisco Bay, but strange things do happen here from time to time. 🙂
Urban Decay’s two newcomers come bearing skincare benefits to add extra BOOM! to your makeup routine.
B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray ($33)
The first, the B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray, is the latest recruit on UD’s team of Setting Sprays.
Instead of applying it after you’re done doing your makeup and getting everything set in place, you’re supposed to apply it on your bare skin before you start, although you can also spray it on throughout the day to freshen up without messing up your makeup, or at night before your regular skincare routine.
UD incorporated skin-lovin’ ingredients like vitamin B6 (also known as pyridoxine) to supposedly control oil, willow bark (which is rich in salicylic acid, of acne-fighting fame) to help with cell turnover, and antioxidant vitamin E.
The spray is also supposed to reduce redness, help control blemishes, and make your pores appear smaller.
I am a fiend for UD’s All Nighter Setting Spray, which I use daily, so I was eager to give this a try.
Well, I’ve been using it for a few days now, spraying it on just before applying my makeup, and throughout the day, and I think it’s pretty cool, although not as life changing as All Nighter is for me, but still. Not bad.
One thing it has going for it is that the fine mist feels downright wonderful to apply. Very refreshing. And I like that it doesn’t mess up whatever makeup I may be wearing.
I think it does also cut down on shine, which I’m guessing is mostly due to the cornstarch, which is the third item on the ingredient list.
As for all the other claims, I just don’t know, and sometimes I think that these brands know that most people won’t be able to tell within a reasonable amount of time. I haven’t noticed small pores, less redness or fewer pimples, but it has only been about a week. Most of the time with mid-range skincare products and combination makeup products with skincare benefits, I’ve programmed myself not to expect big differences, unless I fully commit to using them for 5-6 weeks.
I’ll keep at it, though, with this one. We’ll see. We shall see.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+ (if I notice an improvement in my skin over the next few weeks, I’ll update the current B+)
Eyeshadow Primer Potion Anti-Aging ($24)
Urban Decay’s new Eyeshadow Primer Potion Anti-Aging is like the brand’s original Primer Potion, but souped up to smooth out wrinkles by plumping and hydrating the skin, which is also supposed to improve skin elasticity.
As far as I can tell, it looks and mostly behaves like the original formula — same sheer nude color, same lightweight feel, same ability to extend the wear time and vibrancy of powder and cream shadows worn on top.
Not bad at all. Another pretty good performer.
I spent a good, long while staring into the mirror at the fine lines on my lids with one eye open (and fingers crossed), and yeah, maybe the lines do look a little less noticeable.
It’s surely no miracle worker, but I will take whatever I can get. Yes, please, I’ll gladly take a time machine for an extra 1-2 years.
Like the B6 spray, I’ll keep using it regularly for the next month and report back if it turns out to be a holy grail.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B (for now, a solid B, but I’ll let you know if it turns out to be an anti-aging rockstar)
Both the B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray and Eyeshadow Primer Potion Anti-Aging arrive tomorrow on Urban Decay counters and online.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Hmmmm…I’d definitely look into both. The All Nighter spray has totally rocked my world, too. You know it’s a good product when I do some hardcore workouts (including 3 hours of MMA), and my makeup does not run or sweat off. I swear by it now. I’m also a believer in prepping your skin right (especially eyes, since my lids get oily) to make makeup last all day, but also in combining anti-aging stuff with makeup. Both products are something I’d buy with some extra makeup money.
Karen says
Hi Katherine,
All Nighter is the BUSINESS. If I know I’m going to have a long day I bring it with me… they have it now in a travel size, did you know?
Happy Tuesday!

I too am an All Nighter fiend. Before foundation and again after everything else is applied. The B6 spray has me intrigued! My eyes are following genetic suit and prematurely sagging at the brow bone so I’m curious if the new formula of PP has lifting and firming abilities. Anything to keep my peepers looking perky!
Karen says
With you on the keeping the peepers perky! I’m still on the hunt for my miracle eye cream, le sigh!
Elicia says
Try the new Origins Ginzing Energizing eye cream it brightens and de-puffs. its about 22 bucks US so not bad.
Janet Shepherd says
Hmm… the boom you heard, could it be the Mythbusters? They’re in the Bay Area & they do like blowing stuff up!
Karen says
Hi Janet,
Oh, maybe! If they were outdoors in SF doing something that might make sense. It sounded like it traveled across the bay.
Tracy@Beauty Reflections says
I am intrigued as well! I like the sounds of both of these actually! I love All Nighter, and I just picked up the Chill one for the summer and love it as well. I’ll be checking these out for sure!
Wouldn’t that be cool if it was The MythBusters blowing something up? If anyone would be firing a canon it would be them!
Karen says
Hi Tracy,
Is the Chill one just as good at keeping makeup in place as All Nighter?
CrystalCandy says
OMG I want the setting spray, I can’t live without my Skindinavia and UD setting sprays! Loooooooooooove them!
Karen says
Me too! Which one’s your favorite? I’m all about All Nighter. I use it every day!
CrystalCandy says
UD De-Slick and Skindinavia No More Shine! All Nighter was good but since I have very oily skin, I prefer De-Slick! 🙂
CrystalCandy says
OMG X2! I just noticed that it contain willow bark!! NEED! NOW! My skin can’t live without salicylic acid either. lol
Karen says
I have to try De-Slick on my forehead. In the summer it’s an oil slick up there, LOL!
How funny, my skin loves salicylic acid too. What are your fave salicylic acid skin care products?
CrystalCandy says
I have acne prone skin so I need to use cleanser with 1.5% or 2% salicylic acid. My faves are Murad clarifying cleanser and NeoStrata clarifying gel cleanser! I also love Kate Somerville Exfolikate!
Sephora need to hurry up, I want my B6!
Danielle says
I feel like the spray sounds a bit more promising than the eye shadow primer. But I’m curious to see what everyone thinks of these products in the long run.
Karen says
If I have any major skin care revelations I’ll let you know!
Kim says
A girl’s gotta have priorities. 🙂 I haven’t seen WWZ yet but I’m a little freaked about the speed of those zombies in the trailer. I’d far prefer the slow, shufflers in an apocalypse, thanks very much. The WWZ’s look like they can sprint and climb with the best of them. That worries me. HAHA!
PS I was never very crazy about UD Eden and it would take an awful lot to make me give up my NARS Pro Prime. 🙂
Karen says
They are FAST MOVERS. Like zombies who’ve had too much caffeine! I think they can problem solve too. When you watch it, let me know what you think. I actually didn’t mind it so much.
A big WHOOOP for NARS Pro Prime. It really is one of those great workhorse products. 🙂
Kim says
I definitely will. The boys want to see it but I think it will be too scary. I usually let them watch the superhero PG-13 movies but I like to screen everything first, just in case. 🙂
Amber says
I am really intrigued about these new makeup/skincare hybrids! I wanted the spray, until I saw the ingredients. My skin hates salicylic acid (natural or not!). Thanks for saving me some angry pimples and money Karen! 🙂
April says
do I worry too much to be concerned about using salicylic acid in the day time?as a lot of acne products with salicylic acid do have note of caution at the back saying that it may make our skin sunlight/UV-sensitive?
Christine says
I’ve tried both All Nighter and De-slick – prefer the De-slick (I’m on to bottle #3 now)so I’m excited to try out this new spray out as I find it interesting you can use it before and after you apply on makeup.
There aren’t any UD make up counters where I am (Vancouver, Canada)so I get my UD from Sephora. Any news when it will launch in Sephora?
Karen says
Hi Christine,
Still not sure yet. It should be sometime before fall though. I’ll keep an eye out and let you know if I see it there!
Charisma says
Karen, I need your help! I’m about to purchase this but I’m also at the same time adamant about it. Can this make my makeup last for over 12 hours? Thanks!
Angel says
LMAO at the mental cosmetic calculations! If it was the end, I’d better have some lip balm in my bag. And some concealer!!
Karen says
Exactly. I actually did have some Bobbi Brown Color Corrector in my purse, so I was like, WHEW! 🙂
