Your kitty nephew is shedding like crazy!
This happens every summer. The hair — it’s everywhere! I can’t escape it. It’s on my clothes, on my face, in my nostrils, on my lips, and it may or may not be in my belly button.
Speaking of shedding…these new $20 Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencils shed a lot, too.
Within minutes of applying any of these five (there’s also a black shade, Black Velvet, previously released and not shown here) intensely pigmented liners on my lash and/or water lines, once they’ve dried down, little flecks and specks appear under my eyes, on my nose, on my cheeks, chin and upper lip.
That ish is all up in my grill!
New additions to UD’s famous 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil family, these Velvet cousins, which are waterproof and paraben-free, have a soft, powdery texture and a matte finish designed to create smokey, smudged out, super blended eye looks sans drama. #smokeyeyetillidie
You might recall the original smokey 24/7 Velvet shade, Black Velvet, which came out a while back. The five new shades here — Cult (a forest green), Lure (a gunmetal gray), Lush (a coffee brown), Minx (a sapphire blue) and Plushie (a deep eggplant) — are like her sassy sisters. They’re $20 each and new members of the permanent line.
I really wanted to love these because, ya know, smokey eyes. They blend and buff effortlessly in just a few swipes, creating that soft, smokey gradient effect I’m always after, where super intense color at the lash line fades into a delicate, barely-there haze (I can haz?!).
But the shedding.
Oh, the shedding…
It’s driving me cray! Inevitably, the flakes end up in my eyes, which makes them start tearing, and then El Hub looks at me like a frightened caribou ready to head for the hills because he’s afraid I’ll stab him with a butter knife. “Oh, crap,” he mewls. “Is it that time again!? No emotional triggers!”
No, it’s not that time yet. 🙂 It’s these liners. I haven’t figured out a way to use ’em, even though I really, really want to.
If your eyes are less sensitive than mine, you’re in luck, because I do love the colors and texture.
PRICE: $20 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now in the permanent line at Urban Decay counters at Sephora, Ulta and select Macy’s stores, and online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: C+ (Intensely pigmented with a great texture, but the flaking. Oh, noes!)
Netflix gluttony
I’m all about season 2 of Orange Is the New Black this week. Been watching it every night, all week long.
It sucked me in… It was like stumbling on a Bravo Real Housewives marathon on a slow Sunday afternoon or, I dunno, starting an eye look and realizing, “Holy crap! Did I really just spend 45 minutes blending four shades into the crease…? At this point, might as well keep going!”
Orange Is the New Black. Are you watching it? I just finished the episode where we find out the story behind Christopher, Lorna’s fiancé.
That veil, though??
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Quincy and Jiji are shedding like CRAZY. When Quincy sheds, just chunks of fur pull off of him. It looks like he’s wearing a skirt or something! And just cat hair everywhere, ugh!
Shame about the flaking on these pencils!
LOVE Orange is the New Black! I finished it a while ago, so good. We’ve been watching this Lifetime series called Witches of East End. Has a lot of the elements of the other paranormal shows, not terribly original, but addictive!

I love the colors and finish but I have sensitive eyes too. I’m a little nervous about trying them now. I love Orange is the New Black though! I finished the second season in like a week lol. I can’t wait for the next season to come out! I’m dying to know what happens next

The formula of these liners sounds so unfortunate. I actually really love the NARS larger than life long wear liners, I find they really last on my waterlines.
Orange is the new black is so amazing!! I love that show!

The colors look really pretty so it’s really disappointing that they shed so much. My eyes are super sensitive too so I’m sure these would bother me.
I really want to watch Orange is the new black but I dont have Netflix. An interesting story though, I heard on the news that this show is so popular in MI and orange outfits are so cool that a Saginaw county sheriff ordered all inmates to wear striped suites instead of orange so that nobody confuses regular citizens with prisoners (for example while being transported).

The colors are prettyy especially that purple and dark navy blue shade.. but flakinggg :O .. Nooooo!!
Disappointed!! 🙁

I still want to try Minx (I actually *want* a really smudgy blue liner for something), and I’m really into the colour of Cult, but I wish these were performing better! I love UD liners more than anything 🙁

I totally binge watched season two of Orange Is The New Black! And I miss it already. They’d better hurry up with season 3.
As for those liners, I really loved the look of Cult, but I should probably just stick to the original black UD liner for my first UD eyeliner purchase.

Bummer about the shedding 🙁 I haven’t seen Orange is the New Black yet. I was binging on The Glades, was left on a TOTAL CLIFFHANGER of a season finale only to find out they canceled the show. What the WHUT?!
Kim says
Say it isn’t so! UD is the only liner I use now because of the staying power. And these velvets are so pretty. I’m glad you let me know about the shedding before I was all over Minx.
My nephew is looking slim in the face in that pic. Is it the shedding or is he working out for a new role? 🙂
I have yet to watch Orange, but it’s on my list! And I’m so sorry to laugh at El Hub but isn’t that just typical male? Saying “no emotional triggers” in a panicked voice might actually qualify as an emotional trigger! 🙂

Ugh. UB liners are such pretty colors…but they shed AND smudge (in a bad way) on me. CANNOT get them to work. So I’m kind of happy these aren’t great. LOL
At this point, I’m using a damp liner brush on a Bobbie Brown eyeshadow. It works! And no sliding or flotsam flying everywhere…

Love these UD eyeliners I own three of them and love them!

Thanks for the review! By the very name of the product, I really wanted to love them too. I guess I’ll stick the non-velvet/regular 24/7 liners.

I love these liners! They go super smooth and stay on all day with very little smudging.
