This Ocean’s Pretty Cool: The Gabriel Cosmetics Oceanid Collection for Spring 2013

March 5th, 2013 by Karen 20 Comments

Gabriel Cosmetics Oceanid Collection
Wearing the new eight-piece Gabriel Cosmetics Oceanid collection for spring 2013 on my eyes, cheeks and lips, available now at Whole Foods and Pharmaca stores, and online

Calling all mermaids and beach babes! The Oceanid collection by Gabriel Cosmetics ZuZu Luxe may tempt you to take the plunge into this indie line of all-natural, gluten-free and vegan makeup.

Gabriel Cosmetics Oceanid Collection

Made without synthetic chemicals or animal by-products, the line is pretty new to me, but being a water baby and all, the teals and blues caught my eye.

I also liked how Gabriel Cosmetics sprinkled in cool-toned shades for the eyes and lips — something kinda different from the warm bronzes and golds that typically come with beach-themed collections.

Gabriel Cosmetics Oceanid Collection
HAAAY, GURL! I’m wearing Taureg Liquid Eyeliner, Navy Mascara and Calypso, Breeze and Platinum Eye Shadows on my eyes; Sunset Blush on my cheeks and Crystal Lip Gloss with Fresh Lip Liner on my lips

The stand outs? The eye shadows. They boast mad pigment, refuse to fall out and blend like buttah. I think they could easily hold their own with the MAC, NARS and Urban Decay eye shadows in my makeup bag.

Quick takes on the rest of the collection:

  • Sunset Blush: A super-saturated apricot with fine powder grains; love it
  • Navy Mascara: A little hard to see the blue; better at lengthening than thickening
  • Taureg Liquid Eyeliner: Loaded with pigment, but the stiff brush makes it hard for me to get sharp lines
  • Fresh Lip Liner: A matte cool pinkish beige that feels comfy and smooth
  • Crystal Lip Gloss: A non-sticky, unscented clear gloss with a very faint sugar flavor

Overall, I like this collection, especially the eye shadows and the blush, and I think the cool-toned elements add a fresh twist.

I forgot to ask you, how was girls’ night?

It was really fun! I painted a picture of Quincy, I need to find a place to hang it! Plus my friend Laura is about 6 weeks from giving birth, and I got to feel the baby move, so that was neat! We’ll be doing a shower for her at the end of the month.

I also found out that one of my best friends from my hometown was down here for a concert, so we went to the Natural History Museum at the University of Michigan, which was awesome!

Oh my gosh, SO CUTE!The pink goes with his fur so well, and of course I love the diva expression/pose. I can tell Quincy runs the show.

A day at the museum with a friend is always fun. 🙂 Sounds like you had a great weekend!

He’s definitely all diva. I actually took the pose from a picture of him getting pampered at an event at the local Rabbit Sanctuary.

I am so glad you got to try this line! I don’t know if you remember, but this is one line I mentioned in a reply long ago about depotting my eyeshadows. This is one that is easy to depot and put into my palettes. I LOVE this line and have just about every eyeshadow from their permanent collection.

These will definitely make head turn. The range is so appealing that it would be a crime not to buy it.

I’ve never heard of this brand! Very cool how they don’t use synthetic chemicals or animal by-products though and still get the pigmentation and blendability of brands like MAC.

I’ve got to second that happy to see a vegan line on your blog! I hope you’ll try BWC, Ecco Bella, Pacifica (actually I think I’ve seen Pacifica on here before), Boscia, Crazy Rumors, Butter London… there are a lot of brands out there that are vegan or nearly so and their products are surprisingly good.

How lovely to see Gabriel Cosmetics reviewed by you, Karen! I like one of their blushes called Apricot, it’s such a great warm apricot color. I believe it is very similar to Sunset, so I will have to check that one one too, it looks so pretty! xx
