Played out.
That was my first reaction when I heard about Dior’s new brown-themed eye palette, the $65 Celebration Collection Makeup Palette for the Eyes.
For real though, doesn’t it seem like everyone and their mama has done a brown-themed eye palette by now?? Ever since UD Naked took the world by storm?
Considering the colors and the price, I was about to dismiss this new one from Dior, but I’m so glad I didn’t, because I think it takes well-trodden territory to elegant new heights.
The Celebration Collection Makeup Palette For the Eyes won’t win the Oscar for Flashiest Palette From Dior, at least not this holiday season, but dagnabbit if it’s not classy with a capital C.
Who’s that girl with the quilted velvet pouch? My, isn’t she fancy? 🙂
Oh, look! The pouch houses a sleek navy compact with buttery, easy-to-blend powder eyeshadows and a midnight black New Look Mascara for long, separated lashes, le wow!
Yes, Dior, you’re hitting all the right notes, and if this palette were comprised of just these pieces alone, with the price dropped accordingly, I’d be seriously tempted to gift it to my girlfriends.
But (isn’t there always a but?)…
…I feel like Dior dropped the beauty ball with the other items that come with this set, like the serum primer.
I thought that with my combination dry/oily lids, the creamy texture would do wonders for me, but it hasn’t worked out that way. Instead of extending the wear time of the shadows I wear it with (including these), I think it actually makes them disappear faster!
Plus, the waxy brow liner won’t stay put without the help of a brow powder. Unless I set it with one, I can’t get it to stick around.
And the little liner also included is so little that I have a hard time keeping it sharpened, gah!
It’s hard to hold these pieces against the entire set/palette when the shadows, mascara and packaging get such high marks, but we’re talking about Dior and $65 here. The expectation is for perfection (or darned near it) on all fronts.
PRICE: $65
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to Dior counters and dior.com

Nice to meet you, Wythe Blue
Oh, hai, Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue. Would you like to meet my dining room?
Yup, I think I finally found “my blue.” I don’t know squat much about home decorating, but when Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue materialized before my eyes on monitor last night, I knew it was the one. 🙂
It’s described as a warm-toned blue inspired by the sea and sky, and it’s also Benajmin Moore’s Color of The Year for 2012.
What do ya think? Does it say, “welcoming and relaxed dining room,” to you? I like that it reminds me of the beach.
I’m going to pick up a swatch sample this coming weekend and paint a patch on the wall. Hopefully, it’ll be just as pretty on the walls as I think it is in pictures.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Lovely and relaxing color!
Karen says
Hi Barbara,
Thanks! I like it for that specific reason. 🙂
Teri says
Oh that is interesting that they included a primer, I only wonder if it will dry out? And too bad that it doesn’t seem to work Love the colour selection but somehow I feel that it’s kinda dupeable. You made it look lovely tho! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Teri,
It might. Right now it’s VERY creamy, but I could easily see it getting dry in a few months if left untouched!
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
Doh! I love the eyeshadows, but it’s true that the teeny tiny liner is probably annoying. Too bad to hear the base and brow wax don’t really work either!
Karen says
Hi Sunny,
Yeah, it’s just okay.
Leah @ Mile High Beauty Blog says
That is the color I wanted my bathroom to be but it ended up more Tiffany Blue that Wythe Blue. That’s gorgeous!
Karen says
Hi Leah,
How pretty! I would love to paint my bathroom something colorful. Unfortunately Tabs is all about his neutral palettes, LOL!
varsha says
That Blue sscreamed..no..whispered..’beach’ to me..you should put up the pics of your dining room after you paint it 🙂
I did swatch these shadows last week in sephora..it looked so cute and pillowy..:)
Karen says
Hi Varsha,
I’ll do that! 🙂
Hope you’re having a nice week so far. Have you come across any exciting makeup/beauty finds?
Katherine G says
I love the Wythe Blue! It’s probably the type of blue that I would choose, myself. As for the Dior palette, it looks great in theory but sounds like in actual practice it’s not an A+ palette. If I spend $65 on makeup, I want it to be darned near perfect 🙂
Karen says
Hi Katherine,
With you on that. A $65 needs to be something I want to grab every day.
As for home stuff…have you finished moving all your things?
Tennyoceres says
Again? Really? I am so burned out with the neutrals/browns/colors-totally-not-copied-from-Naked/2. I think I switched to bright eye shadows to stand out from the the other girls in town wearing the same colors from Naked/2. I confess I am still looking at those little sample sizes of Dior eye makeup.
While you’re getting a sample of this blue try other samples that are lighter/darker/brighter than the one you have. You might find you have to combine paint colors to get the look you want. *gasp* Just like makeup! D:
Karen says
Thanks for the decorating help, Tennyoceres. I need it! 🙂
Nina says
I really really love your paint color! 🙂
Karen says
Thanks, Nina! Are the rooms in your home colorful? For some reason I can see you living in a place filled with color!
Ambi says
This is just sad in comparison to the MAC holiday gift sets. Can’t wait for you to review them!!
Karen says
Hi Ambi,
The MAC holiday collection looks gorgeous!
Chelsea says
The colors of the Dior palette are gawgeous, but too pricey since I have some similar colors anyway… the packaging is chic too!
I like the color for your dining room – very elegant and relaxing!
Karen says
Hi Chelsea,
I really like the color too. I just hope it works in the room *crosses fingers*.
Carleen says
I love the shadows, but I wouldn’t want the rest of the set. I sometimes wish Dior would stick to all shadow palettes.
Karen says
Hi Carleen,
Yeah…they make the best eyeshadows!
Lulle says
The shadows look so pretty and the look you made with them is gorgeous! But if half the palette products suck, I don’t think this is worth $65
Karen says
Hi Lulle,
I wish the other items delivered…then it would be perfect.
Alison says
What a shame! You created such a pretty look with it, too..
Karen says
Hi Alison,
Thanks!
Rae // theNotice says
What a gorgeous blue! It does feel quite beachy — I can’t see it working well in a climate like Edmonton’s, but I love the colour for a home in the SF bay area 🙂
Karen says
Hi Rae,
Hmm, why won’t it work in Edmonton?
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
I LOVE your living room inspirations and I LOVE that blue you chose! I’ve always wanted a living room or even bedroom done up in a similar dusty blue shade. It’s pure perfection!
Karen says
Hi Becca,
I just hope it works in the room. I love it so much!
Jennifer says
LOVE that color for your walls! VERY inviting!
And I do love that Dior palette!
Karen says
Hi Jennifer,
Thanks! I can’t wait to paint.
Kim says
The Dior palette is gorgeous! Wythe Blue looks more Wythe Green on my screen but, either way, I think it’s beachy and happy and it’ll look beautiful in your dining room. You should always pick colors you love (and not listen to your husband who wants everything to be white and says that you’re making his house look like a clown puked on all the walls. Not that I’d know about that, personally.) HAHA!
Karen says
Hi Kim,
HAHA! That’s so funny…yeah, I tried to make the process interactive at first, but if El Hub had his way, everything would be covered in flowers (go figure). So now I just make executive decisions. 🙂
I can see your house having lots of color! What paint shades do you have in your main rooms?
Alison says
Oh that blue, I love it! It suits your personality somehow, and its very at-ease and relaxing. It does remind me of the beach: it has that fresh air and sunlight kind of vibe.
Karen says
Hi Alison,
You’re so sweet. I love how that blue makes me feel! I just hope it works for the room.
How’s your day going so far? Good, I hope!
