Ya know…maybe it’s just me and my wishful thinking, but I’m gonna say it out loud in the hopes that the universe reads this and responds appropriately:
“Universe, I would NOT be upset if within a few years Trader Joe’s becomes a top retailer of fun and quirky bath and beauty products.”
Did you hear that? Universe? What I said? 🙂 Listen up.
Sure, one would still be able to load up on edibles there, but how cool would it be if TJ’s also had a fully stocked beauty section with all manner of TJ-esque lotions, scents and creams (and maybe even color products) in addition to their great staples, like cheeses, Dark Chocolate Stars and Pumpkin Macarons? (Yes, all of those things are staples.)
This has been on my mind a lot lately because it seems like every time I walk in the store I find a new limited edition beauty product. And so far, they’ve been kind of awesome. (Remember the Pumpkin Body Butter last month??)
This time, on my last grocery trip, it was their $8.99 Exfoliating Body Scrub Trio, which I found hiding in a tall cabinet in the back of the store beside the cheese section (only reason I found it, haha). I’ve been using and loving the three scrubs in my shower all week long (well, I mean, not nonstop…but you know what I mean).
“Operating under the belief that smooth skin should be available to anyone who so desires it, we developed these scrubs in partnership with a supplier who has significant skin in the skin-care game. Each Trio contains three separate scrubs (because, you know, it’s a trio…), each with its own distinct personality, all of them made with ingredients loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, and fatty acids that benefit your skin. Fresh Fruit Creamy Body Scrub is infused with the refreshing scents of fruits like oranges, along with natural rosemary extract and pumpkin seed oil. Tahitian Paradise Brown Sugar Body Scrub blends brown sugar with nourishing ingredients like pumpkin seed, avocado, and apricot kernel oils and green tea extract. Fuji Apple Sea Salt Body Scrub invigorates your skin with the crisp scent of fresh apples, combining sea salt with a variety of essential oils.”

My favorite, by far, has been the Fuji Apple Sea Salt…
It really does smell like Fuji apples! — and if I didn’t know any better, I’d scoop it out in handfuls and gobble it up…
The fine, soft scrubby grains don’t irritate my skin, and when it rinses off, it leaves behind a moisturizing layer of body oil, saving me from having to apply a separate lotion when I get out of the shower.
And then there’s the Tahitian Paradise Brown Sugar Body Scrub…
This one has larger grains — better for buffing out those rough spots on my elbows, knees and feet — and an amazing brown sugar scent. If I close my eyes and forget for a second that I’m actually in the shower…it’s like I’m standing in a cozy kitchen waiting for a batch of cookies to bake.
Like the Fuji Scrub, it also leaves my skin pleasantly moisturized.
The third scrub, Fresh Fruit, contains crushed walnut shells, and it’s probably the best one for gals/guys who absolutely do not like scrubs that leave any kind of film behind. It rinses clean and smells a little like apricots and pineapples. In other words, YUM!
One of my favorite things about all of these is that they don’t test my balance, meaning that they don’t leave a slippery residue on the floor in the shower, huzzah! Awesome, because I’m clumsy, and the last thing I need is to slip in the shower while vigorously exfoliating and daydreaming about cozy kitchens and cookies baking… That would really, REALLY make me grumpy.
I get the sense that the set is limited edition, so if you run across this lil’ trio, I highly recommend letting it “accidentally” fall into your cart.
You know, accidentally. 🙂

I live an hour from the nearest trader joes so I plan stops while on the way somewhere else or something, LOVE! Last time I grabbed their facial serum and it’s fabulous, the cashier and I were discussing what brand it actually was, and I’m not sure but I kind of think it looks like Dr. Brandt?
I will have to grab these scrubs. And yes in a few years it’d be amazing if they carried quirky color products! But please don’t discontinue the Chocolate Stars or Marcona Almonds with Rosemary!

i live an hour away from tj’s too, but luckily i’m planning a stop next week when i go to pick up my cousin from the airport! i usually stock up on those milk chocolate bars with caramel at the registers (yes, they are a necessity) and try to ignore the fact that i just spent $15 on chocolate 🙂
it has been and will always be my dream that tj’s rolls out with a beauty section. in the meantime i’ll keep my eye out for these scrubs! and TELL ME MORE ABOUT THIS SERUM, please. i think i NEED it.

Ohh, I wish I had a TJ nearby 🙁 The scrubs look like an amazing product and such a bargain too!

These look fun! Have you tried any of the other TJ beauty products? I was eyeing them the last time I was there (so reasonably priced!), but I haven’t jumped in yet. I just tried their makeup removing wipes, and they were ok, not super effective against my mascara. Just sort of curious if there are any gems in there!

Good ole TJ’s. My favorite beauty products there are the Enrich SPF 15 moisturizer (very similar to Olay Complete SPF 15) and the bottle of 100% jojoba oil (used to remove makeup and amazingly moisturize skin at night).
Karen, how does this trio compare to my HG, Burt’s Bees Cranberry-Pomegranate scrub? I know you don’t like how the latter leaves a bit of a slippery bathtub floor, but that bad boy exfoliates my Sahara-dry elbows like no other…

Agree about your statement to the Universe. We swear by the Shave Cream tubes. I really wish they’d bring back the unscented because my DH prefers that one. But the Honey Mango one is good, too. I need to go back to my TJs to see if this is available. I totally missed the L’Occitane lookalike hand cream trio, and am bummed about that- what a steal that one was. The walnut shell scrub looks perfect for a winter pedi. More please, TJ’s!

OMG I hope they have them at mine! They didn’t have the Pumpkin Butter, so fingers crossed. I usually get their Lavender Scrub, takes me forever to go through it and is every bit as good as something 3x the cost.

Karen, thank you so much for this post. I totally would have missed these at TJs. They were on a bottom shelf, kind of tucked away. I bought a set and used the Brown Sugar one. OMG! It smells like Disneyland’s Churros. Yum!! It’s the perfect mix of sugar and oil too. I am going to scoop up a few more sets. Can’t beat the price. Happy Holidays!

I reluctantly passed on these the last time I was there. After such a glowing review, I’ve gotta pick them up next time (probably Tuesday, I’m already running low on the 3 (!) boxes of Mint Chocolate Stars I got).
I really like the beauty products at TJ’s. Their face wash is my absolute favorite (I’m thinking of picking up that serum, too), and I got their Shea hand cream set (I totally did a double take when I saw these at the store, I thought they were L’Occitane at first) which are totally helping out my hands in this cold weather.
