Topshop Cheeks in Luminescence on cheeks
If you’ve spent sleepless nights (LOL! I almost typed “knights.” Yeah, someone’s been obsessed with Game of Thrones lately.) tossing and turning over the need to find a cream blush version of MAC Nymphette Lipglass, as bizarre as that might sound, you wouldn’t be the only one.
I’m right there with ya, babe! 🙂 But get this: Topshop might finally have a cure for what ails us.
The line recently introduced three new creamy, multi-purpose sticks called Cheeks, $20 blush/highlighters designed to add shimmery color to faces, lips, bodies and — you guessed it — cheeks.
If they look familiar, you’ve got a good eye. Luminescence, a peachy pink with golden pearl, must have a girl crush on MAC Nymphette Lipglass because it’s totally biting her style. It’s a pretty close reproduction of the color in stick blush form, and it glows on lips and cheeks. It and the other Cheeks are like thicker, creamier NARS Multiples that feel wetter to the touch and cost about half as much as their counterparts at NARS ($20 vs. $39 for a Multiple).
For a soft sheen, I’ll dab the Luminescence stick lightly on my lips and cheeks, blending it in with a finger. And for a bolder effect, I’ll apply one or two more layers (directly from the stick), again blending out the edges with a finger.
Whether atop bare skin or foundation, the formula adheres well to my combination dry/oily skin. I have noticed, though, that when my cheeks are oilier than usual, the color scoots right off, sometimes within minutes, but starting with a layer of primer (and ending with some powder) seems to take care of the problem.
One last thing: the golden pearl in Luminescence has a tendency to emphasize large pores and any flakes on lips and skin. Just something else to keep in mind.
With Cheeks, Topshop gets the price just right, and I love this particular color. Too bad Topshop couldn’t encourage these to get along better with oily and less-than-perfect skin.
PRICE: $20 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Topshop stores and also online

Dudes…
Why are they so hard to shop for? El Hub and my brother both have birthdays coming up, and Father’s Day is Sunday, yet I have NO FRICKIN’ CLUE where to start. I guess I could always go with a gift card, but where’s the fun in that?
I suppose if I get desperate, I could order this NASCAR fruit sculpture thingy I saw on an Edible Arrangements commercial last night…
I dunno. Maybe if it were made out of smoked meat instead, haha!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Solangel says
This looks interesting! What are you wearing on your lips? They look so…juicy, as weird as that sounds xD…
Karen says
Hi Solangel,
I’m wearing Topshop on my lips, too. That’s Glaze in Laid Back. Here’s pics and a review:

Heidi says
Men really are impossible to shop for! That’s why I usually do the gift card thing for the various men in my life.
That color looks really pretty, but I really hesitate since it emphasizes pores. Mine don’t need any more of a spotlight on them!
Karen says
I may have to go the gift card route, even though I KNOW they end up piling up. Le sigh…
There’s also good old dried mystery meat if I get desperate (what is it with guys and jerky?).
Anywho, it was HOT down here today! I think summer’s finally in the house. 🙂
Heidi says
Yep, it was hot here, too. We’re skipping right over spring and getting summer. Therefore, Missy has started shedding like crazy. Black fur all over my lap today.
True story about guys and gift giving. One year I asked my best friend John what he wanted for his birthday. He hemmed and hawed and had no idea what he wanted so I got him a gift card from some electronics store figuring he’ll probably get something for his computer. Well, he is SO indecisive, that the the one year expiration came up on his card and he STILL hadn’t decided what he wanted, and when he finally did, the store didn’t want to let him use the card, so he had to talk to a manager and plead his case. I forget if he ever ended up getting anything.
So, I had to do a little happy dance today when I drove by the Santa Rosa JC Penney’s and there was a sign on the door that said “coming soon, Sephora at JC Penney’s!” I’m so psyched!
Karen says
Tabs has been shedding like cray-cray too. I swear I am constantly covered in cat hair!
Ooh, how exciting about getting a nearby Sephora! 🙂 That’s good stuff.
Krys says
Game of Thrones!!! I finished all the books, too 🙂 And season 1’s winding down 🙁 Can’t wait for the next.
Anyway, I do wish our local Topshop carried beauty products. There’s a Nyx equivalent of this, I think, but I’m not sure.
Karen says
Hi Krys,
Ooh! Are the rest of the books in the series as good as the first one? I’m almost halfway done with it.
Vijaya says
WANT. Too bad (or thankfully, in the case of my wallet) I already placed my Topshop order.
Karen says
What did you get?
Nina says
I completely agree that guys are really difficult to shop for (though for me, everyone is). My solution to this is finding what he is needing or into at that time and buying smt for it. And in case that doesn’t work, there’s always the filet mignon option, haha 🙂
Karen says
Haha! I think I’m going to end up going with the filet mignon. I still have NO IDEA what to get these dudes! 🙂
Jessi says
After your last post I went to the Topshop website and starting adding things to the cart. I ended up with like $200 and could only narrow it down to $100 so I put my order on hold for now. But thanks to this post i now have something else to add to my cart…
Karen says
What did you end up putting in your cart, Jessi?
gio says
That looks gorgeous! I’ve never tried Topshop makeup, maybe it’s time i do.. 🙂
Karen says
Try it!
Denise says
How pretty! It really does look like Nymphette.
What I do with my brother, dad or boyfriend’s birthdays if I can’t think of anything for a present is to take them out for some dinner. Can’t go wrong with food! (smoked meat will work in a pinch too)
Karen says
That sounds like a great idea! Boys always seem to appreciate food. 🙂
nidhi says
It;s looking nice..but for my super oily skin cream products .big noo
Nina says
LOL @ the NASCAR Edible Arrangements — i live in the South so im sure there will be tons of dads wanting that!
that creme blush is gorgeous! 🙂 i think i need it since i use nymphette almost every day!
Karen says
It’s a little weird, right? I can’t imagine my dad being thrilled by all that cut fruit, LOL!
Nina says
its a whole lotta weird. i mean – fruit is always good but the thought of fruit cut up to commemorate cars driving around in circles is kinda scary. 😀
Karen says
RIGHT? I honestly can’t remember the last time my dad willingly ate fruit on a stick.
We actually live w/in driving distance of a pretty well known racetrack here in NorCal. I’ve never been, but I have had car enthusiast friends who were into it! 🙂
Nina says
the hubs went once. it was a boys trip and they drove 5 or so hours to Dallas to watch it. then drove back after.
i guess if youre really into it, its an awesome thing to watch. 😀
Karen says
I don’t get the allure, but hey, if it rocks your boat…
Then again, all my friends make fun of me for driving really slow! Driving fast does not interest me at all!
Advah says
This looks very pretty! I keep reading nice reviews of the Topshop makeup range, but whenever I end up in the shop I feel less than excited by their display. Probably because about a million of greedy teenagers have been there before sticking their fingers everywhere and making the whole thing look a real mess.. [end rant]
Curious about the “not for use on eyes” line – is it because the composition includes nasty chemicals?
Oh oh, on a very different topic, can I quickly boast? 😀 I’ve won some Nude products via their Facebook competition and have been entered for the final phase (ie reviews)! I’m so excited!
Karen says
Congrats, Advah! That’s very exciting. 🙂
Advah says
Thank you! 🙂 I’ve already started plotting the upcoming round of reviews, although the prize will probably go to the people with about five million Facebook friends hah..
LaurieS says
Such a pretty color, it is tempting me 🙂 As for men they ARE impossible to buy for. I’m buying mine some chocolate, a walking dead book and maybe some heavy duty chapstick. Other than that I’m fresh out of ideas!
Coral says
That ad is hilarious. I was noticing that in the grocery ads here are all for making dad’s breakfast. What about a nice hardy barbeque? I would have thought it would have been more appropriate, but hey, I’m not the one that makes the sales.
Karen says
I know, right? I just don’t see how fruit sticks coming out of a race car could be appealing to men. They also have a golf ball one… LOL!
Mary says
This is such a pretty colour! 🙂 And I like how this stick is multi-purpose.
And yes, I agree that men are hard to shop for. And even buying greeting cards for them makes me laugh. A lot of the options out there have sail boats on them… :S
Karen says
Haha, I never noticed the sailboats, but now that I think about it…
Have you ever noticed that lots of the “funny” cards for dudes involve a fart joke?
Linnea says
Hahaha. Nascar Fruit arrangement is awesome. I’m in the same predicament Karen.. Boy’s birthday next week, and fathers day and I’m still scratching my head!
The topshop Cheeks look cool, but I don’t know if I can give up my multiples..
Karen says
Isn’t it random? I think it would sell better if the wheels were made out of beer and the sticks had some sort of dried mystery meat. 🙂
Ooh, which Multiples are your faves?
lisa says
hi karen!
the top shop luminescence looks like the nars orgasm multiple. or does the top shop one have more peach to it?
Karen says
Hi Lisa,
I also have the NARS Orgasm Multiple, and it’s more peach, while the Topshop version is more pink on my skin. 🙂
Tracy says
Hahaha-there is no way my hubby would want this! I can barely get him to eat an apple! I have no clue what to get him either, but I’m leaning towards a bottle of rum now. 🙂
That blush looks pretty on you!
Ashley Bright says
Hahaha!!!! There are pineapple checkered flags!
I do like the color of this blush…. gorgeous. I was lucky enough to go on vacation to Scotland last summer and picked up some makeup from Topshop in Glasgow… the eye kohl in Petrol is amazing!
Karen says
How cool! I’ve always wanted to visit to Scotland. Where did you go?
Kate & Zena says
The blush is pretty, but it is kind of expensive (in cream blush denial….considering I own two Stila CC’s).
Guys are hard to shop for. Shopping for my dad is a huge pain in the you-know-what. This year though, I outsmarted him. I already bought his present. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Okay, it hasn’t been paid for, technically, and it hasn’t been made, technically, but it IS in the works of being made. I’m paying for it on Friday, but it probably won’t be done for a couple of weeks (because, you know, it is a custom piece and everything.) Technically, it’s not just me buying it either. It’s a three-way present as $70 is expensive for my $60 every two weeks paycheck.
He has NO idea about it either. I asked Zena what she thought about being the subject and she just rolled over. Y’know, you think she would be wildly ecstatic. The secrecy might kill me though…(although, technically, I could tell y’all. He hates beauty blogs.)
For guys, I try to think of what they like to do or their favorite show. For example, if his favorite movies are James Bond movies (like my dad…..he also likes Clint Eastwood and Westerns.), think about James Bond memorabilia like sculptures, gadgets, replicas, etc. or the movies he doesn’t have. (Jeez, why didn’t I think of this LAST YEAR?) Or, if you happen to be visiting Washington, D.C. sometime in the near future, print out Plan Your Visit page of the Spy Museum and say, “Honey, when we go to D.C., we’ll take a day off to visit the International Spy Museum. That’s your gift. The tickets are on me.” (Seriously, I really should have thought about this last year. A spy museum + my dad = a match made in heaven.)
Karen says
All great ideas, Kate. My dad actually loves James Bond flicks, so maybe I’ll get him a few movies. 🙂
I hope your dad loves his gift!
Kate & Zena says
I won’t know until NEXT MONTH. Gr. See, either I’m WAY early or…well, way late (like, a week) for the birthday present. I always make birthday dinners, but heaven forbid if I ever remember getting those gosh darn birthday presents! It’s hard to make them surprises for my parents because they have to drive me!
This year I commissioned one of the artists I admire on dA (this is her gallery of animals) to paint a watercolor portrait of Zena. I really love her animal portraits and I saw she was open for commissions. If there is one person who loves Zena more than me, it’s my dad. So, my mom, my brother and I split the cost. When we get it, we’re going to frame and then wrap it. I’m bad, I know. XD
Karen says
How beautiful! Thank you for sharing the link. Tabs might just have to get immortalized via watercolor now.
Kate & Zena says
Ha ha, we’ll just have to hope Tabs won’t grow too vain if you do. He’s a vain enough kitty. 🙂
Gauri says
I need this! I hope I can find it here.
Karen says
Cool, do you live in NYC?
Instant Karma says
I totally understand about buying gifts for guys. My boyfriend, luckily, is a total clothes horse, so I can always just get him clothing and he’ll be excited about it (although, I got him a Kindle once). Dads are the hardest, though. I didn’t want to hear, “Oh, another sweater,” so I got him the blu ray of the first season of the Walking Dead and some noise isolating earbuds for his iPod. They’ll be good for flying. I didn’t spring for the noise canceling ones, though, because I know he’s most likely going to lose them, haha. What do you think you’re going to get?
BooBooNinja says
How would you say this compares with your NYX powder blush in Pinched?
An aside: do you wear Pinched often?
Alison says
Sorry to continually ask you about what kind of lip color you’re wearing, but is that MAC’s Twig on your lips in this post? I really like the look of it!
Alison says
Ah. I JUST found the answer in your comments. *facepalm* Sorry!
