I’m about as naturally rebellious as a miniature pony at a 5-year-old’s birthday party, which is to say not very rebellious at all.
My idea of shaking things up is playing Katy Perry a little loudly in my office (shout-out to my next-door neighbors, who’ve heard me sing Teenage Dream at the top of my lungs many times).
But the winds, they are a-changin’. 🙂 I am a bona fide rebel now — a Pretty Rebel, that is, thanks to Too Faced Cosmetics, and all I have to say is, “Welcome to the Thunderdome, b*tches! Sh*t just got real!”
WARNING: You may find yourself pumping your fists randomly toward strangers when you wear this limited-edition eyeshadow palette. I did when I opened the door this morning to say hi to our FedEx guy.
He was like, “Hi. Why are you doing that? I like your eye makeup. You’re making me a little nervous.”
Pretty Rebel is the star attraction in the Too Faced Cosmetics Fall 2013 makeup collection. Inside the gold, black and pink packaging reside 10 powder eyeshadows, all of which are new shades.
You’ll find mostly saturated, shimmery colors and jewel-toned metallics here, with a sprinkling of mattes and glitters — the kinds of colors I’d be more inclined to wear on a Friday night, as opposed to a Sunday brunch with the fam.
I dig this palette and think it’s smartly put together; nothing seems out of place.
The balance between bright jewels and neutrals tipped the scales for me. There’s just so much you can do with the products Too Faced included here!
When I opened the palette for the first time — BAM! — right off the bat I started picturing looks, like smokey eyes (black, blue/back, gold/bronze, blue/light blue and brown/teal/gold, which is what I’m wearing in these pics), bright looks (pink, blue or gold, or a combo of all three), and shimmery neutral eyes (brown, peach gold, and beige).
Oh, the possibilities…
Not sure what to do with the brighter colors like the hot pink? How about layering the black shade, Miss Sparkles, beneath ’em? It tones the brighter shades down, making them more wearable.
I like to wear Miss Sparkles beneath the duochrome Girly, which totally looks like MAC Club to me. It coaxes out even more of Girly’s green tones.
That’s what I did for the look I’m wearing here…
And if simple looks are more your style, Pretty Rebel has those covered, too. Pat any of the shimmery colors on your lids before sweeping a matte brown into your crease.
Don’t have a matte brown around? No problem. Try your bronzer! I actually used Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer here in my crease for contrast and depth.
But that’s not all. Get this: these shades neither lean too warm nor cool, so most gals/guys should be able to pull ’em off.
Fallout could be an issue, though, especially with the glittery shades like Miss Sparkles, but if you’re really careful about tapping the excess from your brush, it’s manageable. To get around it, I do my eyes first, clean up any excess with a makeup wipe, and then do the rest of my face. The shadows blend so easily and last all day on top of a primer that I’m willing to let it (the fallout) go.
If you’re looking for a versatile palette to wear out this fall, you really can’t go wrong with Pretty Rebel. Be prepared, though, for a little fallout.

For my Chipotle fans out there!
Yesterday was El Hub’s birthday, so I told him that I would take him out to dinner, wherever he wanted to go.
Homeboy chose Chipotle! So birthday burritos it was. 🙂
I hadn’t been there in a while and noticed a new vegan item on the menu called the Sofritas (spicy tofu).
I ordered it and thought it was great! A little hotter than I expected, but not unbearably so. Great texture, too. Not too chewy, because you never know with tofu.
If you’re into veg/vegan meals, give it a whirl. YUM-O.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Ha! You and your postman have such a deep, complex relationship, Karen 😛
And as for Pretty Rebel — what a stunner! I love the sound of a palette that can work on both warm and cool skintones.

I have been on the fence about this palette. It looks like so much fun but I think I have most of the colors in other palettes…However Ulta sent me a 20% discount coupon and I was thinking of using it to get it :)The look you created is really pretty on you! And lastly, happy Belated Birthday to your hubby! can you believe I have never been to Chipolte?

Karen, you always look smashing with smokey eyes! I think personally though I’ll skip on this one. I like the colors but the shade names are so corny, like they tried to go all Urban Decay and failed. Maybe I’d get this as a gift if I had a tween cousin in a Bad Girl phase.

1. I wish this part of Florida had a Chiptole
2. If it need I’d totally wish it had the Sofita! Not a veg/vegan but it sounds great!
Nice palette. Girly, in particular is a very pretty shade.

I can’t wait to get my hands on this pallet! That colour combo looks amazing on you, Karen 🙂

I am so back and forth on this palette. I adore it! But would I wear it? I should get it just to mix it up a bit more. Girly reminds me of Too Faced Petals to the Metal, but a touch more green. That’s been my favorite summer eyeshadow so far 🙂
P.S. Totally craving some Chipotle right now. Soooo yum!

You look gorgeous in that palette! I used to love the Sofritas, until I read how much sodium is in it. It has more sodium than anything else on the menu. Now when I eat it, I just feel like “ughh”

Haha, love the FedEx guy reaction. I think the important part of being rebellious is not just doing things but being confident at what we do! I love trying new eye shadows but after I get a few looks on a street or on a subway, I feel like I want to hide sometimes…And I want to gain this confidence for making it work! Thank you so much for being such an inspiring example!

Is it just me or does this palette really look like an Urban Decay’s palette?? I had to read the title of your post 5 times to be sure!!
Girly looks beautiful, and the palette as a whole is very pretty!

What a beautiful palette! I wish Too Faced was available in India.

Girly grabs my attention totally.. Ya MAC Club and MAC Blue Brown Pigment are the ones that came to my mind immediately !

You made me laugh with your miniature pony comment. My Pretty Pony never had bangin’ eye looks like that, though. HAHA!
You know that you’ve almost reached “miracle worker” status when the FedEx guy starts noticing eye makeup. You should be proud. 🙂
The next time I’m westward bound, I will definitely try the braised tofu sofrita. I’m pretty much a fan of anything soaked in spicy! And Happy B’day to El Hub! I can’t remember if you’ve said how old he is, but is he having any milestone birthday reservations?

I am seriously in lurve with this palette!! I haven’t had a chance to pick it up yet but after seeing your review and awesome look, I may have to get it today…like at lunch. 😉
Karen says
Hi Jae!
Have fun makeup shopping at lunch. I hope you love the palette! I actually brought it with me on my trip down to LA today. I couldn’t leave home without it. 😉

I really love the pacakging but I love the bold bright colors but I don’t think I would actually wear them.
