NOVATO — “They’re kind of like purse parties,” said Karen of Makeup and Beauty Blog, “but without the purses, obviously, and with much, much more cheese.”
The beauty blogger and self-proclaimed pioneer of the melted party movement hosted one of them recently — so-called “melted parties,” where women (and some men) get together to celebrate “things that make you melt.”
“It’s the latest party crazy sweeping the nation.” said Karen. “A fun festival of figurative flambé!”
At Karen’s last melted party, guests nibbled on tuna melts and fondue (both cheese and chocolate varieties, she was quick to add), then played with blue-eyed kittens and chubby-pawed puppies while watching The Notebook.
All things that make you melt.
The melted theme often extends to the dress code, as well, as Karen frequently encourages melted party guests to arrive wearing makeup like the new $21 Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipsticks by Too Faced Cosmetics.
“These opaque liquid lipsticks,” said Karen, “which are new to the Too Faced line, have set the melted party movement on fuego! I like ’em for many reasons — first among them being the pigments. They’re intense! They literally lavish lips in smooth, saturated color, so they look great in selfies. On top of that, they last 4-5 hours, so you can raise the roof without having to stop for touchups.”
According to Karen, the slanted tip applicators make them easy to apply. “Even the brighter and more intense colors like Melted Fuchsia, Melted Violet and Melted Coral are a snap to use. I can even skip a lip liner.”
The marketing-schmarketing: An opaque liquid lip color with the shine of a gloss, the lasting power of a stain, the intense pigments of a liquid lipstick, and a precision tip applicator that nixes the need for a separate lip liner. Made without parabens, sulfates and phthalates, they’re available in six shades — light peachy nude Melted Nude, light pink Melted Peony, orangey coral Melted Coral, hot pink Melted Fuschia, purple Melted Violet and red Melted Ruby.
So what’s the 411, hon? Absolutely lovely! — albeit a little drying on my very thirsty lips. The colors are rich, intense and saturated, and the slanted tip applicator all but makes ’em goof-proof.
On my lips, the Melted lippies feel like thin, non-sticky glosses and look like satin lipsticks.
They fade slowly over the course of 4-5 hours (but won’t last through a meal), and I find the faint buttercream flavor and scent, which fades over the course of about 10 minutes, pleasant.
If you want bright, bold lips but don’t want to exert much effort, these are a great way to go.
Just be be sure to prep your lips first with your fave moisturizing balm if they tend to get dry, because these aren’t the most moisturizing lippies on the block, and keep that balm handy in the event that you see a few flakes after a few hours.

“Don’t be surprised if you get an invite to a melted party soon,” said Karen. “They’re the hottest crazy sweeping the nation.”
Even celebrities are getting in on the action. “Just last week I hosted a melted party with Ryan Gosling,” said Karen. “He was actually part of the entertainment. He recreated that famous scene from Dirty Dancing by lifting each of the guests, one by one, as The Time of My Life played in the background. Everyone loved it.” 🙂
There’s nothing nicer than being welcomed home
Guess who’s been all up in my grill today? 😀
Lovebug tabby.
When I walked through the door yesterday afternoon, Tabs started meowing like crazy! Then he followed me from room to room and wouldn’t let me out of his sight.
And today, he slept under the desk in my office practically all day long, except when he wasn’t jumping on my lap. Isn’t it wonderful when your cat is totally into you after you’ve been gone for a little while? I wish it could be that way all the time, LOL!
Anywho…the big news ’round these parts (other than my cat not ignoring me) is Easter and Easter brunch. El Hub and I are trying to coordinate plans with both sides of the family, and it’s been, um, a challenge.
You know what nobody tells you before you get married? That in order to make everyone happy (which, turns out, isn’t even possible), you’re going to be doing a LOT of driving on the holidays.
What are you doing for Easter? Anyone else going to brunch? Tell me about it. 🙂 I need a really good Easter brunch recommendation either in Marin County or Napa.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I almost picked up Melted Violet during the Sephora 15% off sale but didn’t. It was lovely, but on my pale skin it felt too much. These all look great on you! I’m loving your hair too
Karen says
Hi Jennifer!
Have ya tried Melted Nude or Melted Peony? Either would be pretty on your pale skin, methinks.
Icequeen81 says
Not my shades but like the finish
Karen says
Yeah, the finish is super cool. How have you been? 🙂 Has your week been good?
Icequeen81 says
Agree the finish is tremendous. My week was some how tranquil with here and there a problem student. yesterday the students had Easter reunion at school. We went to the church with them, they heard a testimonial from somebody who try to give motivation speeches at schools I wanted to cry I hold it to not cry in front of them the speech was very touching..
Karen says
Oh, I remember listening to a motivation speaker or two when I was in school and recall it being very moving. I bet the students learned a few good lessons!
What are your plans for Easter? We are going to brunch with El Hub’s parents in the morning and then driving out to the East Bay to have late lunch with my family. I talked to my mom last night and she’s making me one of my favorite dishes, sinigang, which is like this tart stew with fish and veggies. I try to make it myself but it never tastes as good as my moms!
Icequeen81 says
Only 2 students were really moved 2 girls cried. The motivation was about a woman who has succeed in life despite circumstances. She was born with disabilities missing 5 fingers and one leg, then she lost her mom at an Young age, She had many struggles in life like being bullied etc.
We are not really going to do allot, we keep it slow. Cause el hub grandma is recuperating from an operation, my own parents are not going to celebrate, We bough today some red velvet cupcakes with cream and brought some for my parents the loved them. Your plans sounds great, indeed there are some dishes my mom keep making better than me.

Melted Nude is a nice option for nude lippie!! 🙂
Rachel says
These look gorgeous, kind of remind me of OCC Lip Tars in a way. Poor little Tabs missed you so much!
Agata says
The Melted Peony is my favorite. But they all look great on you, no surprise there.
Vanessa says
Awwwww Tabby! You’re killing me with cute!
Ashleigh says
I just ordered the coral shade! I was torn between the coral and the peony and then I thought “why not” go for bright summer lippy 🙂
Karen says
You will love it, Ashleigh! I wore the coral and it’s such a fun summer shade.
Sunny says
Aww Tabs!!! “You were gone forever. I counted.” Sooo cute 🙂
I am pretty curious about these, but I’m not sure about the applicator. I used to own something like that from Clarins, and at the end it got a little… gunky so I binned it. Some of the shades are really gorgeous though! Naturally I’m eyeing that CORAL!
Karen says
The coral would look beautiful on you. If the applicator starts bothering you, you can always clean it off with a damp towel. I do that sometimes with attached doe foots.
Alison M says
I’m happy to see these on you! Melted Ruby is stunning! And Melted Nude is surprisingly gorgeous. I’ll be checking that one out too.
Karen says
Nice. Liquid lipsticks in nude shades can sometimes be patchy, but this one is grrrrreat. 🙂 Speaking of nude lippies, if you’re ever in the mood to splurge, you’ve gotta try Tom Ford’s Sable Smoke. It’s a regular lipstick (not liquid), but it just might be the best damn nude lippie on this earth.
Fran says
These all look so beautiful on you, Karen, and especially the nude! I have Melted Violet and love it, it is my absolute favorite liquid lipstick formula of any I’ve tried so far. Being NW20 and over age 55, most nude lipsticks make me look sick, dead or worse… like one of the un-dead. But this looks so gorgeous on you… I just wish I could see it doing the same for me! Melted Fuschia and Melted Ruby are on my wish list, though.
Erin says
Those look really nice!
Fancie says
All of these are beautiful!! I love the coral one on you!
Sylirael says
Every decent purple lip product released makes the world a slightly better place 🙂 That red, too! *phew!*

OMG, I need to go to this party! Fondue, puppies, kittens, what could be better?!
I love melted nude and melted coral on you!
We aren’t doing anything with either of our families for Easter – my parents live about 3 hours away. Two of our nieces though are pregnant – one was due yesterday, one is due next Wednesday – so we might end up visiting them in the near future to see the new babies (one’s having a girl, one’s having a boy, how convenient). I’m also going to a 1st birthday party for a friend’s little girl on Saturday, so that should be fun…
Kylie says
I LOVE Melted Fuchsia, even though I am super pale. I love the pop it gives. And I found it lasted about 6 hours, and through a bag of Cheetos!
We go to my boyfriend’s grandmonther’s house for Easter. So much delicious Italian food. I gave up cheese for Lent and cannot wait to shove her mac and cheese in my mouth!
Kai says
Melted coral!!! I’m inlove! Think it would go well with my skin tone. I’m lucky to have almost the same skin shade as you Karen, when you take photos I don’t have to imagine if that particular shade fits me. If it goes well with your skin tone, I equate it to myself as well.
Hibba says
Is there any colour you can’t wear Karen?! They all look gorgeous!
Meghan l says
Hey Karen,
Did you try the new too faced melted colors yet? Looks like too faced released four new shades melted marshmallow, melted fig, melted candy and melted berry. I wanted to see what your feedback was on how close they were to the other colors. Love your site!
