I once dated a dude with a mullet.
In my defense, it was the ’80s, but I bring it up because these Too Faced Natural Eye Shadow Duos ($17) are like little mullets of the makeup world — business in the front and a party in the back. Each of the four new duos pairs a matte on one side (the bidness!) with a shimmery shadow on the other (the party!).
The duo’s are new additions to the company’s permanent collection, but if you recognize some of the names…
…that’s because some of the individual colors were liberated from last year’s Too Faced Natural Eye Kit and reassigned here to work alongside new colors.
I’ve fallen for the Sexpresso & Peach Fuzz duo. It’s the one with the dark matte brown and shimmery peach with golden glitter.
The brown has TONS of pigment, and both colors blend smoother than a good vanilla shake. For quick, no-brainer eye looks for day or night, this duo really hits the spot.
So far I’ve come up with a few different ways to wear Sexpresso & Peachfuzz…
- A subtle day look: The duo makes this one easy. Sweep the shimmery shade all over the eyelid, and blend the matte shade onto the lid and into crease. Emphasize the eye by lining the lower lash line with the matte using an angled brush (shown above).
- A sassy day look: Sweep the shimmery shadow over the entire eyelid. Then, wet an angled brush, and swipe it across pan of the matte shadow. Use the brush to draw a thick line along the upper lash line for a simple cat eye.
- A dramatic smokey look: First, line the eye with either a black or brown pencil. Then, load a pencil brush with the matte shade, and smudge it on top of the liner. Finish by blending the shimmery shadow on top and feathering out in a gradient as you move away from the lash line.
Did I mention this stuff stays put all day long? Neutral-loving ladies, you need to ride this pony! Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+
Weekend plans?
Do you have any? I’ve got LOADS of cleaning/laundry to do… That’ll be fun. I’m going to try to get it all done tomorrow because on Sunday I’m going to my brother’s girlfriend’s grad school graduation.
I also can’t wait to start the book I picked up today:
Erma Bomback worked as a newspaper humorist for over 30 years, writing about suburban life back before it was cool to do so (she passed away in 1996). I love her writing. I think it’s funny, feels real, and at times it’s very touching.
Here’s one of my favorite passages from her column, March 10, 1987:
I always had a dream that when I am asked to give an accounting of my life to a higher court, it will go like this: “So, empty your pockets. What have you got left of your life? Any dream that went unfulfilled? Any unused talent that we gave you when you were born that you still have left? Any unsaid compliments or bits of love that you haven’t spread around?”
And I will answer, “I’ve got nothing to return. I spent everything you gave me. I’m as naked the day I was born.”
Ahh…if I could, I’d wear her words like a warm sweater.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Have a lovely Friday night, okay? If you’re heading out on the town with your friends or boo, may the makeup force be with you! See you bright and early tomorrow! 🙂

Loving these Too Faced shadows! I like the new Too Faced palette from Sephora as well. Do you think the shimmery shadow would settle in my lovely fine lines? That’s my only concern with shimmery shadows.
Have fun at the grad school party! I’ll be with you on doing laundry and cleaning. We’re trying to redecorate our master bedroom, so I am looking for new bedding and paint colors as well. Tonight was a night spent eating pizza and just chillin’ with the family – definitely a nice time for us.
Hope you enjoy reading your new book. I love Erma, so I’ll have to check this out!

I have the Too Faced Natural Eye palette and I those are my go to shadows during the work week. I’m glad they’re selling the shadows separately, b/c I will definitely buy them!
I got a head start on the cleaning this week, but laundry awaits me tomorrow. There is also an open house for my nephew who is graduating from high school. Tis the season! Have a great weekend.

good neutrals are always worth the price. That brown looks really nice, hehe the names of these made me smile. Looks like they coordinated the pairs well, ooh I will definitely check out that book, it seems like it would make a great cozy read. This weekend I hope to make up the mall trip I missed last week b/c of my cramps. Hopefully nothing stands in my way this week *knock on wood*

karen you lifesaver! i’ve so much coloured eye make up and desperately was in need of adding some neutrals to my collection, and this was exactly what i was looking for! i’ve always been a bit unsure how to do looks with them as well so thanks for the great tips! (it’s weird that i’d find bright and dark colours since as blues and purples easier to work with?!)

I’ve been wanting that duo- I don’t own any Two Faced shadows – I’ll give this one a whirl!
That’s a lovely passage.

Those duos look so cute! Love the EOTD you did with Sexpresso and Peach Fuzz. 😀
And dude. So, SO’s gone camping this weekend and I was going to finish cleaning, doing the laundry and get a bunch of group project work done… but unfortunately I’m sick. I had a fever of 100.1 last night and severe body ache and while I’m feeling a bit better today I have a feeling my entire weekend’s just been obliterated. =/
