Giddyup, girl! Let’s get a move on! Go grab your cutest dress, and I’ll get your boots, because we’re double-dating in Music City tonight!
Well, I mean, figuratively… Not in the literal sense, although I wish, right?! I’m referring to the new Country Nashville Nudes Eye Shadow Collection ($36) of nine powder shadows by Too Faced Cosmetics, the brand’s latest palette for fall.
This one’s all about country charm and the glamour of Nashville.
Versatile, like a country song that crosses over into the pop genre
It’s a versatile mix of beige, gold and pinky nudes peppered with deeper blues, purples, brown and gray — mostly in neutral and cooler color temps — but not so cool that warmer-toned vixens won’t also be able to wear it.
Eight of the nine shadows contain varying levels of shimmer and glitter, while the other shade, a sheer, cool-toned peachy matte, adds a touch of contrast.
Compared to Rock ‘n’ Roll, its counterpart palette also released this fall, Country seems sweeter and more delicate to me — perfect for everyday glam (see: wearing wedding makeup on a random Wednesday).
Like a soft country song
The nude shades here have a subtlety about them, and even with the darker blues, purples and brown, there’s nothing too hard-edged about this palette. The colors shouldn’t appear overly harsh, not even on the lightest lasses. That said, I think Country will rock hard on cooler toned cowgirls with light and medium skin tones.
Too cool for school, but not too cool
Even though I gravitate toward warmer shades, in general, like bronzes, khakis and golds, I still like this palette a lot, since the cooler tones aren’t outrageously cold.
Fine lines say what now?
Don’t fret if you tend to shy away from shimmers, because these don’t emphasize my fine lines (huzzah!).
Too Faced handles shimmer in such a classy way. They turn it up a tad more than Chanel but keep it less flashy than Urban Decay, if that makes any sense.
When I buff these shadows on my lids with a domed or tapered brush, they have a very flattering effect — glowing and super pretty — especially in daytime eye looks.
What’s the word on wear time?
I wore this yesterday to run errands, which, mind you, isn’t as tough a test as a Texas rodeo in the middle of summer or six hours of line dancing (I wish! Line dancing is so much fun!), but eight hours later, the shadows still looked great. There was some minimal fading in the crease, but nothing too noticeable.
I started by prepping my lids with my trusty NARS Smudge Proof Eye Shadow Base, then buffed grayish taupe Nashville on my lids, lined my upper lash line with a black pencil liner and smudged dark blue Bluebird on top.
Then, with a tapered brush, I swept matte peach Cowboy Take Me Away on my brow bone and in the inner corner to soften out the edges.
Rating: G+, as in Good!
What a good palette. Great wear time with flattering, fun colors, especially for $36. I do kind of wish there were more mattes in the mix, but you know me. I love mattes in the crease. 🙂
Overall, though, I think you get a lot of versatility with the nudes, and the purple and blue shades keep the palette from being too basic or blah.
You can find Country and the rest of the Smitten Kitten fall 2014 collection now exclusively at Ulta stores and online.

I really, really love the colours in this palette! I might have to see if I can get my hands on one…
These shadows look especially gorgeous on your skin, I think, partly because of the contrast in undertone!

Honestly, this looks like the perfect palette for me. Slightly cool with some slightly warmer shades that mix well together. I’m seriously considering it. Nashville is AMAZEBALLS.

I am dying over the cute names/colors here. Mostly the names and packaging. I swear those will get me every time (I still giggle every time I open my Boudoir Eyes palette to use, so maybe there are positive psychological effects to cute packaging, idk! 😀 ). Those blue-violet colors look great on you btw!
