OK, that’s it. Game over! I’ve only been waiting, what, years, possibly decades, for this exact cream eyeshadow to walk into my life and subsequently rock my world, all that time patiently wishing, wondering, hoping to find a long-wearing product with a glossy finish that would make it possible for me to do a smokey eye without having to conduct a symphony on my lids with five different eyeshadows and eight brushes.
Finally, the wait is over.
You done good, Tom. SO GOOD. Your new $42 Cream Color for Eyes cream eyeshadow in Spring 2015 (yup, that’s really its name) gives me all the feels.
But I’m actually having a hard time describing the color. One minute I’ll see a deep golden khaki gray. Then I’ll turn my head a certain way or push my hair behind my ear and POW! — get a blast of silvery glitter in a warm, rich taupe or catch a glimpse of gunmetal gray. It’s a cream shadow chimera.
To top it off, there’s the finish. THAT GLOSSY FINISH THO! Such a vivrant thing (shoutout to Q-Tip), slick as a pristine magazine cover beckoning from a shelf at Barnes. At the same time, it’s fresh, spunky and a little bit wild (like Tabs the first time I met him, haha).
Its glossiness holds the key to its grunge-glam fabulosity.
It’s not easy to find a shadow with a glossy finish that actually stays on my lids AND feels comfortable. Most of them scoot around, only to settle into the crease within minutes of applying, but this one doesn’t move. It stays put.
Formula-wise, it’s a whipped mousse (and I don’t mean an exhausted elk), so if you prefer dense creams like the MAC Paint Pots, this kind of cream shadow may not be for you. I like the fluffiness of it, though. I find it easy to blend.
Unfortunately, this one is limited edition.
(Cue the glittery tears and shaking fists.)
But at least it’s available now online for $42. It’ll also be available at bergdorfgoodman.com and neimanmarcus.com beginning later this week.
When I apply Spring 2015, I like to ride the lazy train. I usually don’t use a primer with it because it doesn’t need one. I’ll just pat a small amount on my eyes starting with my lash line and lids, buff out the edges, and rinse and repeat until I reach the level of intensity I want. After that, it’s black eyeliner on my water lines and lots of black mascara.
This shadow adores nude lips (one to try: Tom Ford Sable Smoke) and casual skin. Oh! — and warm-toned lip and cheek pairings.
In these pics I’m wearing it with a coral lip and warm peach cheeks.
Being a $42 cream eyeshadow, Spring 2015 will probably not make your wallet do the Dance of Joy, but that’s Tom for you. Bargains are just not allowed at his counters. Still, in Tom Ford-ville, where a jar of face moisturizer costs $230, $42 is not a bad deal.
If you’re looking for a reasonable way to test the Tom Ford waters (as reasonable as Tom Ford ever gets), consider Spring 2015. I think it’s really something special (Tom, please make it permanent!).
PRICE: $42 for a 0.21-oz. jar
AVAILABILITY: Limited edition, available now online at tomford.com and coming to bergdorfgoodman.com and neimanmarcus.com later this week

Adventures in tea time…
I’ve been drinking a lot of tea lately…
Partly because I’m trying to cut down on my caffeine intake/dependency (hey, it’s something to do…like growing out my hair), and partly because of that cold I had last week.
I don’t know why, but some things are just totally unappealing to me when I’m sick, like coffee and eggs — especially scrambled eggs, which I normally love.
Anyway, this tea — my parents brought it back from their trip to China and the Philippines last fall. I’m actually not entirely sure what’s in it (the ingredients aren’t in English), but there’s a description on the side of the box, and I see the word “barley.”
This tea is SO DAMN GOOD. It’s hearty, like black tea, but I don’t think it’s caffeinated, because it doesn’t keep me up when I drink it at night.
I’m down to my last five bags now. 🙁 I keep looking for it online, but no luck. I’m seriously thinking about going to Chinatown in SF specifically to look for it.
If you’re a fellow tea lover, what have you been drinking lately?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Hey Karen! This thing is SO SERIOUSLY GORGEOUS! I nearly bought a TF cream shadow a while ago, but I’ve grown to prefer stick eyeshadows so I missed out! Next time when he makes a shade I’ll use often, I will take the plunge.
I know exactly what that is! I think you can find it in Chinatown because it’s pretty common. It’s basically roasted barley, so you’re right: there is no caffeine. I am still drinking Yogi Tea Ginger nonstop. I’ve tried so many different infusions, but I keep coming back to this one.
PS: I hope you’re feeling better!
Karen says
Hi Sunny,
Yeah, this one’s a showstopper. I feel you on getting used to cream shadow sticks, btw. They are so easy to use, especially the darker shades. Do you ever use black or navy stick shadows to darken the outer corner? They are great because they don’t fall out!
Anywho, it looks like I’m going to make a trip to Chinatown very soon to hunt down that tea. 🙂
I haven’t tried Yogi Ginger. Is it very gingery?
P.S. Thank you for the well wishes. I’m not 100% yet, but I’m feeling much better.
Sunny says
I sometimes use Laura Mercier Cocoa for that and you’re right: no fallout!
Yogi Ginger isn’t VERY gingerly for me, but I think I have a higher than usual tolerance for ginger because a friend told me it’s too gingerly for her! Sometimes I add a little honey as well 🙂
nai says
Ooh! Ptisan = tisane. The one you’re drinking is basically a barley tea/tisane (tisane being an infusion or decoction of something herbal/plant, usually sans caffeine). You can probably find some variation of barley tea, whether Japanese, Chinese, or Korean, in most Asian stores. If not, let me know, and I will happily send some to you from Hawaii. Our Korean stores have it for sure.
Karen says
Hi Nai!
Oh, thank you. I will take a look around here and see if I can find it in the Bay Area (I’m sure I can… there are a lot of Asian grocery stores, just not any close to me unfortunately). Thank you again for the offer from the bottom of my tea-loving heart, LOL! It’s very kind of you.
What are you and the hubs doing for Valentine’s day?
nai says
i don’t know if we’re doing anything for Valentine’s Day, honestly. we have tickets for a benefit brunch buffet on Sunday morning at one of the community college’s culinary schools, but that’s not really romantic. strangely, ever since Rad and I paired up, VD hasn’t really been a big deal to me–even less so now that we’re married. maybe we’re lucky to be in a marriage where we don’t need a special holiday for the romance?
okay, i just made myself puke a little over how gross that sounds. LOL.
QBdoll says
NAI – no puking! I feel the same way about my hubbs. We did go out for a nice dinner and had bowling planned, but a surprise snowstorm only allowed us to get to dinner (barely). I think when a marriage gets to that place, that means it’s a WINNER! 🙂
Kelly B. says
Gorgeous! I really want to try these but…$42 is so much money for one cream eyeshadow! Maybe one day 😀
Karen says
Hi Kelly,
Definitely put the TF Cream Colors on your “someday” list. You won’t regret it!
Chelsea says
This color though! So multi dimensional. Perfection.
Lorraine says
yum on the tea-I haven’t seen that brand but I am sure you can find barley teas in your local Korean market. Unless you need an excuse to visit SF.
On the shadow… any close enough dupes in your stash? Either in powder, shadow stick or cream pot form? I don’t think I can plunk down that amount of change on one cream shadow with a short shelf life, but I love the color. I think it would be flattering on a variety of skin tones, including my paleness.
Rhia says
My go-to is Tazo Zen, but I recently discovered David’s Tea about a month ago. Their Bhudda’s Blend is awesome! I love mango and they have one called Mango Madness. I’ll have to stop by there again soon to try it.
Alyssa Melanie says
Tom Ford makeup is really so expensive. Everytime I add a Tom Ford product to my cart, I always end up removing it before I finalize my order, lol! But, one of these days, I probably will succumb. That cream shadow looks lovely on you. It’s really frustrating when they release gorgeous products as Limited Edition, right?
Lately, I’ve been addicted to Yogi Blueberry Slim tea. It tastes good by itself, but I squeeze a little bit of lemon in it just to add a bit of citrus kick. I’m still trying to lose the holiday weight so I’m sticking to this one until I regain my desired weight. I’ve been on an eating frenzy since Thanksgiving until late January, so it will take some serious hard work to lose all the weight I’ve gained, lol!
Poo@beautyandmakeupmatters says
This TF cream eye shadow is hell Lotta gorgeous.. Am its creamy finish is to die for.. U r right it’s hard to find a good cream eyeshadow in glossy finish but this one marks it there..
Definitely not good for my Credit card but what a beauty.. The shade is so pretty !!
Agata says
What a gorgeous shade and it looks so pretty on you!! Especially paired with that lip combo. Unfortunately, there is no way I’d spend that much on one eyeshadow!
Ankita@corallista says
It looks really good on you! I prefer denser cream shadows but wouldn’t mind layering to get a more intense color. Love how glossy it looks!
Fancie says
This shadow is sooo gorgeous!! I really don’t want to spend $45 on it but it’s so tempting
Nikki says
This shadow really looks beautifull on you! It smokes out very well. Love it!
Chic Lapin says
This is the kind of shadow I enjoy using on my everyday quick look! Both the texture and colours look like my cup of tea 😀
Kwmechelle says
I’ve heard great things about that shadow. Wonderful how the color has so much dimension that it looks different depending on the light or how you turn your head. Too bad it $42. And limited edition. But one day, dear Tom, I’ll take the plunge & one of your wittle goodies is coming home with momma!
Kim says
Wow – how often do you find your Holy Grail of any makeup? This is a big day! Congrats and I’m happy Tom Ford delivered on your cream shadow dream! It’s a really pretty color and, as you say, not too crazy expensive as TF goes. 🙂
I’m on an Apple Cinnamon tea with honey kick. Usually in the evenings, under a blankie, with a book. It helps with the cold weather. When I’m sick, I often choose lemon tea with honey. 🙂
Carolyn says
Unfortuately Tom Ford cosmetics are kinda hard to find in Calgary but I think it would be best for my wallet to not try very hard to find this right now, lol!!!
Tatiana says
I really wish Tom would make all of his cream colors permanent. Trying to decide if I “need” this one. I don’t usually do a dark, smoky eye.
Been drinking a lot of green tea brought back from our recent trip to Tokyo. Partly because it’s the best darn green tea I have ever tasted and partly because it’s supposed to be healthier for me. But some days I just gotta go back to my old ways and have a cup of coffee.
Sandy says
Love the looks of this Tom Ford eye cream….but Wow..the price. Let us know if you ever find something similar a little less expensive. Do love this color and will have to try a cream shadow one of these days. By the way, you are beautiful in it! Thanks ladies for the info on the tea!
Gloria says
I really think I will get one of the cream shadows with the sable smoke lipstick and the foundation/foundation stick (which one you recommend?) next time when I (unfortunately) pass by Tom Ford counter…
btw, the tea is roasted barley, like Sunny said, and I think you can get it from Amazon too. But not the same brand. This kind of tea is frequently served in Korean restaurant with Korean BBQ to neutralize all the fat from BBQ, also in China, we drink it in hot summer to stay hydrate.
Seems like in the States, people prefer to have loose tea, which is not my favorite. Nevertheless, the loose Turkish teas are the best loose tea I’ve ever tried, especially the organic ones. Other than that, Ahmet Tea from UK (just the brand, not the tea leaves), are the best tea bags. However, I do prefer original Chinese green/black tea, where the whole leaves are kept in one.
I have been drinking ginger tea recently, and found out I really like the kick from ginger, surprisingly, since I don’t like eating ginger whatsoever… I normally boil it with water and lemon (can be added later)… Kinda addicted to that special kick now!
Charli says
HI 🙂
Great review! I have one on order and I am waiting for it to arrive… any day now!
I am wondering, is it a shadow that you, Karen, would get a back up for? Is it that good and that unique for that? After your review I am wondering if I should jump a second even though I’ve yet to experience it myself.
Thanks in advance for answering!
Thanks for the awesome blog!
Charli

Upon reading your blog post, I did something I rarely, rarely do: I went straight to TomFord.com and ordered this :D. It’s incredible, just like you said, it’s the perfect easy smoky eyes kind of shade. I couldn’t resist it. So thanks for the post, Karen.
Speaking of tea, I just did a google search on this tea, and I found a website that sells it: goodorient.com The shipping looked reasonable to me :). Have a fun rest of the week! xox

Good Earth Gingseng is one of my favorites as is jasmine.
I drink Yogi Bedtime tea right before bed because it has valerian and makes me really sleepy.
Yogi Egyptian Licorice is delicious too.
I can’t drink fruity teas. I like fruit and I like tea but not together.
Iris says
I wish my city had Tom Ford cosmetics available. Most sites don’t ship to us.
I love tea; I’ve been drinking a lot of it (at least two cups a day).
Joss says
Hi
About the tea. Do you have a Korean grocery store in your town? I think you could find some BARLEY tea as a replacement for PTISAN, their tastes are very similar. I am a fan of tea! Hope this helps!
Alexis (Rouge Dreams) says
Great post!!! The shadow looks lovely on you! Mine just arrived and I’m SO impressed with the color payoff. It a smokey eye made easy in a little jar!!!!!
QBdoll says
I just got mind the other day. I saw it on the models and read rave reviews from you and other bloggers and had to have it. Now, if I just woke up early enough to put some on… 🙂
