“Do you have any idea haw many cans of gravy that is?!”
— What Tabs says (inside voice) every time we talk about Tom Ford Lipsticks being almost $50 each.
The price is completely redonk, but as far as spendy splurges go, at least Tom Ford Beauty’s new $49 lippies make you feel like a million bucks.
Tom’s Lipsticks are like cooking a meal on Le Creuset pans and serving it on fine china. Or like looking into your dream closet and trying to decide between the Louis or Chanel bag…right after you grab the Choos.
This fall, Tom’s shades have that “You have arrived” vibe. The two nudes and two bolds make me feel grand — like I finally got that corner office I always wanted here at Tabs the Cat Industries, LLC. 🙂
The shades are re-promoted colors in the new fall 2013 line.
Of these four, Crimson Noir is my favorite, but not by far. All it takes to brighten my look is a single layer of this intense red with its supernaturally smooth, satiny finish. It’s one of those reds guaranteed to turns heads.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A
Sable Smoke, the peachy beige, runs a close second. When you have pigmented lips like I do, light beige shades like Sable Smoke are often hard to pull off, but Tom got this one totally right. Smooth, opaque and just plain elegant, it’s a red carpet color and already a new resident of my purse.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A
Bruised Plum, to me the most dramatic color of the bunch, should flat-out sing on light and dark skin tones. Like Sable Smoke, Crimson Noir and Ryan Gosling, it’s smoooooove. Would love to see this on a very pale princess and a dark damsel. I bet it would look really hot. I love it! — I just wish it were a little more unique. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+
Vanilla Suede, the fourth shade, plays it safer than its three siblings. A shimmery pinkish beige, it’s probably the most basic of the bunch. Still a very flattering nude shade, especially when it’s layered with a sheer, shimmery pink gloss, I bet you could find something similar for less.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B
So, the other day while I was playing with the colors I mixed Crimson Noir with Sable Smoke on a whim, and the result? Off the hook!
Sable Smoke turns up the brightness of Crimson Noir, and together, the two make magic. I’m gonna try to find drugstore dupes for both and do the same thing.
All four new shades are available now at Tom Ford counters at Neiman Marcus stores and also online.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Crimson Noir is without a doubt my favourite! And I love the mix of Crimson Noir with Smoked Sable, it’s genius!

Bruised Plum (unlike the name) looks really gorgeous! ^_^
Frankie says
Those look great! But I’m a bit confused. I’ve had Sable Smoke and Vanilla Suede for awhile! Did you mean “NEW” as in New formula’s?? The colors seem to look the same to me!
Eileen says
Hi Frankie,
I was also a bit confused when I read the title of the post, but these are not new. The fall lipsticks were repromotes.
Karen says
Sorry if that wasn’t clear guys. I meant new as in new for the fall collection. I will correct that in the post right now. Thank you both and have a great Friday!

That Crimson Noir looks amazing!!! I have a couple of Tom Ford lipsticks…ok 7… 🙂 my latest addition was violet fatale. I find them extremely creamy and love the package but not sure if they justify paying 45 doll hairs 🙂

Move over, Tom Ford! Karen knows her colors! Girlie, that mix of Crimson Noir and Sable Smoke rocks! So, so pretty!
Sara@colormeloud says
All four are gorgeous and look stunning on you. You said you can’t pull off Sable Smoke easily but I really like the end result. My favorite on you is Crimson Noir, and I have to check Bruised Plum since I love those kind of shades but the name pushes me a bit away LOL. How does Bruised Plum compare to Black Orchid? More red, less vampy?
Karen says
Hi Sara,
I think Black Orchid leans more to wine burgundy, while Bruised Plum’s plummier. I’d say Bruised Plum is more vampy.
Gowthami says
Crimson noir is stunning!!
Karen says
Super pretty.

I love the crimson one!
Karen says
Awesome red, right?
Kelly says
I absolutely love the Crimson Noir and Sable Smoke combo! Both of them look so pretty on their own but combining the two is insanely gorgeous on you! Tom Ford lipsticks are really dazzling
Karen says
Hi Kelly,
Yes, his lipsticks are quite a splurge. Have you seen any of his brights? They’re off the hook! Here are some of my favorites in case you’re interested:

I’d definitely love to take a look at Crimson Noir! Slowly getting into the mood for red here 🙂
Karen says
Every day is a red lip day, Sunny! XO

Hazel is sitting on my fingers (with her claws out!) keeping me from ordering this gorgeous nip! She knows I love anything called crimson and I know she loves anything called gravy. Maybe I can negotiate an entente….gravy for lipstick? Talk about “starving for beauty”…or should that be “starving OR beauty?”.
Karen says
Aww, StrayCat and Hazel! You two are quite a pair. You know what would be amazing? A lipstick called “Crimson Gravy.” LOL
Suzanna says
Love the mixing–and all of these colors suit you individually, too.
TF is not sold here, and when I did come across the line while on vacation the SA was so pushy that I didn’t get to properly test. Now you have me interested in your “mix,” so at next chance…
Karen says
Hi Suzanna,
Be sure to check out his blushes, too. They’re also fun!
Have a great weekend. 🙂

I’m glad to see that Tom is bringing back some of the shades that were discontinued when the lipsticks were re-tooled a couple of years ago (although I hate the fact that they’re discontinuing Black Orchid). Can’t wait to get my hands (and lips) on Bruised Plum!
Karen says
Hi Kate,
Do you have any of his brights like Flamingo? I live for that color and for True Coral. 🙂
Ankita@corallista says
Love Crimson Noir! And it looks gorgeous mixed with Sable Smoke !
