So, the Tom Ford Holiday 2015 Noir color collection. I mean, really, it’s not like I was going to do a freaking cut crease with these products. The collection has smoky eyes written all over it!
And when I realized that, of course I had to do a little wiggle dance in my chair, because nine times out of 10, I’ll pick smoky eyes over just about anything else, so thank you, Tom, for helping me indulge my natural smoky eye makeup tendencies. Sending you matte lipstick kisses from across the Interwebs. 🙂
Five of the seven pieces in the limited edition release, which is available now online and at Tom Ford counters, are eye products. The other two include a black nail polish and a re-promoted matte pinkish nude lipstick from the permanent line, and for extra fancy effect, all of them even have special limited edition packaging (see how the caps are black instead of the regular dark brown?).
Now, you’ve probably already been to this rodeo before, and you know the drill, but since this is Tom Ford we’re talking about, the prices are crazy. Like, the most affordable thing in the collection is a $35 bottle of nail polish.
Let’s just let that percolate for a moment…
I know! But what can you do, right!? Unfortunately, and I mean this with all sincerity, when Tom does something well, he does it REALLY WELL. I even had an out-of-body experience once related to Tom Ford’s brow pencils (I’m so not joking either).
I’ve been drooling over, mumbling about and caressing five of the seven pieces in the release, and as I look at them, the word that keeps coming to my mind is “pigment.”
The Cream and Powder Eye Color in Night Sky ($66), Eye Defining Pencil in Navy Black ($40), Nail Lacquer in Blackout ($35) and, heck, even the golden glittery Lash Tips Mascara in Burnished Gold ($44) are all ridiculously intense, and I think it makes it a little easier to swallow the idea of a $40 liner or a $35 nail polish. “But I get all that color and sparkle in just one coat!?”
I’m just saying… It makes the prices sound a little more rational.
And in one product’s case, the Night Sky duo, I think it’s almost TOO pigmented. It actually complicates doing a traditional smoky eye and getting a good transition from dark to light.
Buuut, that’s usually not a bad problem to have when it comes to smoky eyes. Something tells me that with pricey products like these, most gals would rather have more pigment than less.
I go into much more detail in the video at the top, but here are some quick tidbits about the products…
- Cream and Powder Eye Color in Night Sky ($66): CRAZY PIGMENTED! That makes this one great for smoky eyes, but also sometimes challenging, when you’re trying to create smooth gradients but don’t want to use two or three separate transition shades.
- Eye Defining Pencil in Navy Black ($40): Hello! This one’s all that and a bag of baked Cheetos.
- Lash Tips Mascara in Burnished Gold ($44): A total eureka moment. There’s gold glitter in them thar hills! We’re talking glitter and gold in massive amounts. When I wear this, I feel like I look a little crazy (at least, crazier than usual).
- Nail Lacquer in Blackout ($35): You can really see the micro glitter when you get this into sunlight (it’s awesome). One coat is more than enough.
- First Time Matte Lipstick ($55): A re-promoted from the permanent line, this one’s a marvelously pigmented matte nude pink. Just remember to prep your lips first with a balm if you have flakes, because it’s SO pigmented that it picks up every. Single. Imperfection.
I hope you see something you like. 🙂 Let me know what you think.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’d be tempted to use the mascara for my lower lashes and my brows. I can see it being super cool in an editorial and look like cray in real life.
That pencil, though… TOMMY, WHY YOU GOTTA BE SO SPENDY?
Karen says
My sentiments exactly!
Do a BOGO sometime, Tom! (Yeah right.)
Metta says
I have been waiting to see swatches of this collection! Oh my gosh I am in love now and can cancel the rest of my makeup wish list, it is so gorgeous! I am buying the creme and powder eye color and eye liner as we speak!I have also been stalking the tom ford site daily to see when the new lips and boys comes out? Do you know anything about it yet? I am dying to see these new “drake” and “jake gyllenhal” colors.
Karen says
Hi Metta,
I’ve heard about it but have yet to see it in person. Working in it though. 🙂
And hi, I wouldn’t mind getting Jake Gyllenhal on my lips!
Chelsea says
So pretty! Only thing here that’s really my style would be the lippie – I don’t like the way I look in smoky eyes – just doesn’t suit me. The colors are very pretty though, and the glitter on that eyeliner is lovely.
Karen says
The lippie is nice, right? I just wish it was a little more forgiving with ze flakes.
Oh gosh, thank goodness tomorrow is Friday. It’s been a long week on this end; how about you?
Chelsea says
Definitely excited for the weekend! Been a busy week with work and homework.
I picked up that Nuxe Rêve de Miel lip balm and it is so good! My lips feel amazing! Plus the smell is nice, but not overbearing.
Karen says
I’m glad you like it! I wish they’d put it in a tube, but hey, I’ll take the pot because it’s so darn good. I want to try a few more things from the Reve de Miel line — maybe the body cream next!
Chelsea says
I’m obsessed with creams and moisturizers this time of year. I just picked up several different ones for all tge body parts. My skin is pretty dry at the best of times, so winter in the Midwest really makes it worse. I need to buy a new humidifier to prepare, but we’re having unseasonably nice weather this week.
Tc says
What’s the name of the Chapstick you use? I couldn’t hear it well in the video..☺️
Thanks
Karen says
Hi TC,
It’s called Nuxe Reve de Miel. It’s a little pricey ($19) but a jar lasts forever, and it’s incredibly moisturizing.
Agata says
The eyeshadow duo is amazing indeed! I’d wear it in a heartbeat but I think I will never spend that much money on Tom Ford’s makeup! But these are definitely my colors. That lipstick works really well with the whole look too!
Karen says
Hi Agata,
I didn’t know you were a navy blue kinda girl, but I can see you working it, big time.
I hope that you had a nice week. I’m so glad tomorrow is Friday! This one was a long one and I’m glad the weekend is around the corner. Are you doing anything fun with your BF?
Agata says
I have always liked navy blue and since your navy blue party glam tutorial I have been wearing it in my makeup a lot more.
You know I always have mixed feelings about the weekend since I have to work and work crazy hours but I also get to see my bf so that’s good 🙂 On Sat we are going to a Toledo Walleye home opening hockey game. He is from Toledo, OH and a hardcore hockey fan so it’s a big deal to him! Of course, his son is coming with us. Then on Sunday we were thinking of going to an outlet mall but since I have to work and the outlets are a few hours away, I am not sure if we will have enough time.
Any plans for you?

The eye products are GOR-GEOUS!
Unfortunately I’m $ poor @this time 🙁
Karen says
If I see dupes of anything at a lower price point I’ll let you know! 🙂 HTH.
zVintageFashionizta says
Thanks!

The collection looks so good.
Karen says
It’s really lovely! Give it a swatch if you can.
LindaLibraLoca says
Absolutely not my colors, but I love the sound of them. I really need to check the counter for different shades soon.
And the Nuxe Rêve de Miel is my holy grail lip balm, too. I am probably on my fourth tub?
Kiss & Make-up says
I love that there’s so much focus on the eyes in this collection. The eyeshadow does look STUNNING, I agree! I also like using brown as a transition shade by the way 🙂 Great minds, right.
Kim says
Oh, Tom. Always so beautiful. Happily for me, blue is not my color – though I know it’s yours! The wallets of blue-loving ladies everywhere just started crying over this collection. 🙂
Tatiana says
I spent some time at my local Tom Ford counter and tried this collection on. The lovely makeup artist/SA and I both agreed the shadows just didn’t work for me. I rarely do a smokey eyed look and she was trying to apply the product lightly. I bought the nail polish, though, which was definitely the first thing I fell in love with. So tempted to go back and get the eyeliner pencil. That blue is gorgeous and I’m pretty sure I can figure out a look with it.
Karen says
Hi Tatiana,
You could always smudge it on the bottom lash line. If it’s too strong then load your brush first with a matte brown to mellow it out.
While you’re there check out Metallic Mink pencil too! It’s my favorite these days. 🙂
Happy Friday!
Tatiana says
OMG! Yes! Metallic Mink! After we took of the smoky blue look we used the Golden Mink quad and Metallic Mink to line. I ended up buying both of those.
Katherine says
My goodness! This collection is perfection, that navy black pencil <3 (in love.)
