I swear on my husky tabby’s orange tum that my cat lady heart broke a little when I finally took my brushes to Paul & Joe’s new Face & Eye Color palette in Kittycat ($36).

Kittycat is one of three new Face & Eye Color palettes in the new limited edition Paul & Joe Collection Sparkles release for spring 2012.

And I suppose this may be a little too much information…but while I did my eyes this morning with Laverne’s — yes, I’ve taken to calling her Laverne — shimmery reddish purple and matte pinkish beige shades, I pretended to pet her chest, back and tail with my brush, speaking to her in the same high-pitched voice normally reserved for Tabs.

“Look at you, Laverne!” I said with my inside voice out loud. “Look at your pretty purple tail! I’m petting your sides now and your little paw…” :)

A few quick observations about Laverne, also known as the Paul & Joe Face & Eye Color palette in Kittycat

  • The three shades vary in intensity, with the shimmery reddish purple packing the most pigment, the peachy pink shade (which has just the slightest sheen) depositing a little bit less, and the matte pinkish beige delivering the least.
  • The purple’s prominent flecks of silver glitter exhibit some fallout, especially when I’m working quickly and rushing through a look. I don’t think it’s bad, though.
  • I still really like the matte pinkish beige, despite it applying rather sheer. Smooth and buttery, it blends seamlessly into the other shades and still looks very elegant on its own. For a simple, fresh look, I’ve been applying it all over my lids, curling my lashes and then adding lots of mascara.
  • If you plan to wear the peachy pink shade as a cheek color, try it with a small, pointed blush brush for greater control. A larger blush brush might pick up the darker purple of Laverne’s “fur.”
  • The words “Paul & Joe” in the upper right corner are an overspray. Now, after taking my brush to it, my pan just says “Pau.” LOL! Yes, I’m too easily amused.
  • All three shadows blend without fuss or muss.
  • The powder has a light floral fragrance, which to my nose smells a little like carnations.

All in all, I like Laverne, even though I do observe a tiny bit of fallout from her powders.

I think this palette’s one of the easier purple, pink and beige combos I’ve played with in a while, and the colors are easy to layer and blend. Of course, the cat design on the pan is just way too cute for words. For that alone, it’s a win. :)

Lol at calling the cat Laverne. :D I do like that purple shade (I own this one), but I wasn’t blown away by the other two shades. I can’t see how you can use this on your cheeks either. Very vute design though.

i think it started when Pau was instrumental in my winning a fantasy basketball championship … ive always tried my best to draft him eversince. :-D

I too thought of Pau Gasol instantly esp. since he played great tonight and I’m a huge Lakers fan!

I love that he goes to the opera and went to medical school for a bit.

But yes, this looks great on you Karen! I want one of the blusher sticks so so badly but I could never bring myself to use it! Plus Mr. Sun would become jealous and might try to destroy it!

  7. Ruchita says:

That’s so cute that you talked to Laverne while you petted her with your brush. :-) The colors look very pretty and wearable.

I too speak to my kitties in a high-pitched voice and I use horrible grammar and made up words. Heaven forbid someone listened in on my “conversations”. I’d be headed to the cat lady psych ward. :-)

    • Karen says:

Oh, me too! Don’t even get me started on the silly nicknames. Tabs has so many, and they rarely make any sense. There’s Coco, Coco Tabby, Gravy Crockett…

  8. Joyce says:

You said that the peachy pink shade can be used as a cheek color. So, I was just wondering, what color do you get when you swirl all 3 of the shades together? Can you wear it as a blush when swirled together?

Oh so purrty Karen. I hate to ask but are you going to swatch the blush sticks?

  10. Telma Micheloto says:

Congratulations! I knew you had it in you! (the courage to ruin it)

PS: If Laverne had a pink nose, she would look just like my cat Jimmy.

What a pretty look! It’s a lot more “purpley” than I had expected but it looks really nice. I’m still a sucker for the Siamese Please, though. :)

  15. Erika Beck says:

Pretty pictures!! These colors look awesome on you!!

  16. Emma RZ says:

Karen, you are just hilarious. I can imagine you ‘petting’ Laverne as you used her! I think that all kitty / doggie people have the ‘special’ voice reserved soley for use on our furry friends. The only creature that I’ll call ‘darling’ is a fluffy, four-legged one.
