I like big cats and I cannot lie (those other brothers can’t deny)…
I also like huge hoop earrings, XXL scoops of ice cream (really, if you’re gonna indulge, might as well go all out) and the super-sized shimmery pearls in Guerlain’s $70 spring highlighter, Météorites Perles du Paradis.
Don’t these look almost good enough to eat? You might want to keep them away from young children and, um, inebriated adults, because not only do they look pretty tasty, they also smell like those yummy rose and violet hard candies they sell at the Asian grocery store, om nom nom…
And I like their name, Perles du Paradis, oui, oui! Pearls of paradise, I think. When I swirl a brush in the jar (I prefer a brush, but the product comes with a pink puff), the pearls tinkle like wind chimes.
I think these pearls look, smell and even sound great, but what, exactly, are they designed to do? Guerlain says the six shimmery skin-toned and pastel pearls that come in the jar brighten dull skin by reflecting light and boosting radiance, and they work with all skin tones.
On my NC 42 skin, I get a satiny watercolor wash of pinkish purple generously sprinkled with flecks of silver glitter.
The brightening effect is subtle, and I have to look closely and concentrate for a few seconds to really see it on my skin, but that seems like the intent. I don’t think Guerlain was going for so much illumination that it stops strangers on the street, ya know?
Unfortunately, though, considering the high price and subtlety, Perles may be best suited for the makeup fanatic who has everything, or the obsessive Guerlain collector.
Still, I do have to say, DAYU-UM, Gina! — if this isn’t one good-lookin’ product. I’m tempted to just leave it open on a shelf to admire all day long.
PRICE: $70 (EEP!)
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Sephora, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman and Nordstrom stores, and also online.

Butter
Um…butter sculpting? Have you heard? I had no idea it was, like, a thing. I only learned about it last weekend watching a movie, aptly named, Butter (starring Jennifer Garner, Hugh Jackman, Olivia Wilde and Alicia Silverstone).
I thought it was way, way better than the 35% it gets on Rottentomatoes.
It has a slightly twisted, weird, wacky sense of humor (think To Die For with Nicole Kidman) but these lighthearted, touching moments, too. Perfect for when you want to relax on the couch watching something quirky and cute.
Hope your week got off to a good start. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I wish Guerlain had included puffs on all of their Meterorites! They’re so delicate and dainty! These colors look absolutely stunning though, they outdid themselves with this new release. If I could, I would definitely get them all! Your skin is positively glowing by the way too!
Karen says
Thanks, Meghan!

I have one of the permanent meteorites pearls that I never use (breaks me out!) but I still love it because it looks so lovely on my dresser. I’ve heard they’re modeled after Marie Antoinette’s jewelry box 🙂
Karen says
I think this one’s going to stay on my dresser too. They’re so gorgeous. 🙂
Tracy@Beauty Reflections says
Pretty! Love the puff too!
And yes! Butter sculpting! I went to a Ukrainian catholic elementary school run by nuns. Easter is HUGE for us. Easter baskets get blessed with certain foods in them-basically your Easter Sunday breakfast. Well, they taught us how to sculpt a lamb out of butter for our baskets and I had to do that every year for my mom after that!
Karen says
That’s kind of cool! I bet it was lots of fun to get your fingers all buttery. 🙂

I have Perles d’Azur and I skipped the Meteorites from the holiday collection, because that one deposited a lot of shimmer, I heard. I REALLY want to get this but I heard that the tub was only half full because of the puff 🙁 Maybe in the future!
Karen says
You should give it a go anyway! You might really like it if you’re already a Meteorites fan.

For some reason I just haven’t gotten into the whole meteorite thingy. I don’t like anything in this type of formulation, just don’t know why really.
Karen says
Oh well! It’s not for everyone.
Sunny says
I’m still very much in love with Perles du Dragon from last year’s holiday collection. It is my go-to setting powder! I’m not too sure about the pink in these, but that puff? It’s a childhood dream-come-true!
Karen says
The puff is too cute!
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
I’ve always been curious about these Meteorites, but after watching that clip and hearing that wondrous sound that they make when they clack together? It’s a done deal. I NEED these!
Oh and PS: curious about that Butter movie now, as well. Going to try and watch it sometime this weekend, I think! ;P
Karen says
Hope you like the movie, Becca. 🙂
Kim says
Well, your skin looks great but that may have nothing to do with the Perles. 🙂 Speaking of skin, the SK-II products were not for me. I was hoping they’d be awesome but they seemed to actually make my pores look bigger, give me crazy blackheads and even break me out a little. I suppose it’s good in the long run since they’re so pricey. 🙂
I knew about the butter sculpting, only because I’d seen the preview for Butter when it came out (and probably read something in EW)!
Karen says
Aww, that’s a bummer. Even though those particular products didn’t work for ya, you still have to try the mask when you get a chance. Seriously, it’s fab!
I saw a bunch of good movies last weekend. Have you heard of 10 Years with Channing Tatum? He keeps his clothes on, but it’s still good, hahaha!
Kim says
I will definitely try the mask! Oh, you know what else didn’t work for me? Diorshow Iconic Curl. It was exactly the opposite of what I like in mascara (the formula felt a bit too thin for me, it didn’t add volume at the base and it separated my lashes in a way that made them look thinner). Total bust on the Sephora samples this time. 🙂
I haven’t heard of it but saw your post this AM. It sounds like a good watch! I’ve been all Homeland’d up but did recently check out Taken 2 (as expected), Dredd (not as good as the reviews, imo) and Here Comes the Boom (I thought it would be horrendous but the boys wanted to see it and I actually enjoyed it).

I may have to add Meteorites onto my beauty wishlist! So pretty 😀
I watched Butter on Netflix a few weeks ago and I loved it! Olivia Wilde is totally a scene-stealer

It does look almost good to eat! ha!

Whatever lippy you’re wearing, I love it on you.

I have no use for this product, but I want it because it’s pretty.

This illuminating powder wins the official award for best packaging. So beautiful and elegant to look at!
Penny says
I like how your skin looks naturally glowing here, not the im-glowing-because-i-have-highlighter-on-my-face look!
🙂

That packaging is to die for! I’m not sure I can pull off purples or cool pinks, but the whole thing is so pretty.
