Here’s a question I wish I could answer: why are some days easier makeup days than others? Seriously, some mornings I wake up with agile fingers and a mind filled with makeup inspiration; on those days I can bang out a blended look with six different eyeshadows and barely bat an eye. Other days, however, even the simplest look using a single color will feel like a Sisyphean task.
Whether or not the universe is conspiring against me, I know one thing for sure: whenever I feel like I’m making a fist with five thumbs, these Boots No. 7 Stay Perfect Eyeshadows ($6 each) are going to come in handy.
I started wearing Khaki (a sheer greenish gold powder) last weekend, and now I can’t wait to see the other colors in this permanent collection of shadow singles. There are 22 to choose from, and unlike the uninspiring Boots Breeze trio I tried last week, Khaki looks and feels smooth on my lids (the powder doesn’t look like it’s sitting on top of my skin).
Gals who natural eye looks might like its subtle shimmer (it’s not as bold as a high shine frost). The effect reminds me of the light outside in the summer at dusk.

Wearing Boots Khaki
For what it’s worth, you may want to pair Khaki with a primer. I didn’t when I wore it to dinner and a movie on Saturday, and by the time I got home it had all but disappeared. Starting with a layer of a sturdy eyeshadow primer like Urban Decay Eden with it on Sunday extended wear time from about four to six hours (between touchups).
And I gotta say again — I sure do love the price (I found some of the colors at drugstore.com for $4.49!). Boots appears to have made an affordable line of eyeshadow singles that shouldn’t be missed. Available now at Target stores and online. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A
If I had a werewolf boyfriend…
I’d want him to be like Alcide from True Blood, and not like Jacob from Twilight, because I think he’s cuter in wolf form.
Don’t you wish your werewolf boyfriend was hot like Alcide? Don’t you?
I didn’t think I’d be down with the red eyes, but somehow Alcide makes ’em work, Tim Gunn-style. 🙂
What are ya doing tonight? I finally got around to working on my fitness (had to make up for lunch), and now I’m about to watch the season premiere of Mad Men, WOOT! Alcide’s a wolf, but Don Draper’s nothing but a dog.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Radhika says
For $6 this is just too good…the list of stuff my sister has to pick up for me just gets longer and longer 🙂
Karen says
Sometimes sheer shadows hit the spot, don’t they?
What else is your sister picking up for you?
Danielle says
I got the boots single eyeshadow in “truffle” like 3 weeks ago and I love it…it’s a little sheer but these are by far my fave boots product.
Karen says
I’ve heard that one’s good! It’s next on my list.
Do you have any other Boots things that you love?
Vanessa H says
Alcide is right up there with Mr. Northman on the True Blood hottie scale…and Mad Men is my second fave show…I need to catch the new episode and find out what Betty is going to do!
The shadow is such a warm pretty color, it would work so well with the neutral colors I’ve been wearing in my clothes 🙂
Karen says
Let me know when you watch Mad Men so we can dish. 🙂
Karen B says
OMG I love Mad Men! I still have to see season 3 though as it doesn’t air here in Belgium and the box set of S3 has only just come out. Who’s your favourite MM lady?
Karen says
Joan! How about you?
Pinch says
Khaki looks wonderful on you =)
Karen says
Thanks, Pinch!
Mara says
Love Mad Men! Side note: I met Christina Hendricks’ (Joan) mom at a Halloween party last year. She’s a lovely lady. We kinda hit it off and was chatting most of the night. I told her Joan is my fave character on the show and how I almost showed up at the party dressed like her but ditched the idea because I couldn’t find an affordable 60’s-style wig at the last minute. She told me a little bit about Christina’s lovely wedding which happened just a few weeks before.
As for Alcide, he is a cute wolf but I prefer his hot bi-ped self, thank you very much.
Karen says
Hi Mara,
That’s cool. Do Christina and her mom look alike?
Mara says
Actually, they don’t. I mean there’s facial resemblance and Christina’s mother has the same flawless, alabaster skin, but she is quite petite and not as, er, voluptuous.
Karen says
Oh, that skin is to die for. It looks almost surreal on camera!
kirsty says
That colour is lovely! I’m confused about how come it’s cheaper in the US compared to UK prices though? http://www.boots.com/en/No7-Stay-Perfect-Eye-shadow_51162/
This happens with a few brands and I’ve always wondered why
Karen says
Hi Kirsty,
Hmm, I’m not sure why. I do know that Target, the store that carries Boots, is known here in the US as a budget store. Maybe they secured some sort of a deal to get products out for cheaper on the shelves.
Marina says
I love such colours, beautiful shade!
Looks like everything with vampires and werewolves will always be popular no matter how many similar movies/books there are already out there.
How did you like the Mad Men? Who is your favourite character?
Karen says
Hi Marina,
I do love me some Joan. Have you been a fan of the show for long?
Marina says
Nice to hear that, I also like her ! I like the show, not really a huge fan 🙂
Karen says
I like that she’s beautiful *and* curvy.
Kim says
That color is very nice on you – makes for a lovely natural look! I’m glad it worked out better than the trio with the funky applicator.
I totally agree on Alcide over Jacob, esp since he’s more age-appropriate for me! 🙂
Karen says
I learned my lesson with that trio… as soon as I finished taking these pics I totally ditched the applicator from this one too!
Speaking of Jacob, I just realized that the Twilight wolves are also fuzz-free. What’s up with all these waxed werewolves?!?
Kim says
That’s true – there’s a definite lack of hair on all the characters! Poor Bill from TB was the only one I’ve seen with chest hair lately… which I’m not sure was helpful in his latest situation.
Karen says
Yeah, I wonder what’s up with that? I guess they didn’t wax back in the Civil War, but the Vikings preferred a smooth look?
gio says
The color looks very nice and natural on you.
Karen says
Thanks, Gio!
Lexi says
nekkid Alcide….
I have a bad summer cold right now, and watching TB was the highlight of the otherwise snot-filled weekend. Then…out of nowhere…naked ALCIDE! I like to think that was special, just for me, to make me feel better 🙂
Karen says
Hi Lexi,
Oh noes! I think I had that cold about a month ago. 🙁 It took a long time for the snot to fully work its way out of my system. I hope you feel better soon.
Nathania says
I’m beyond happy that Alcide has signed for the rest of the season! Love his character/body…. I’ve been meaning to watch Mad Men but I’ve never gotten around to it. I’m really looking for a good khaki color and I’m so glad you did a review of it!
Karen says
Mad Men is a good show, albeit a touch depressing at times. The writing’s excellent!
Nina says
Those are what I had … and I liked them. I think I gave them to my sister though because the colors I got were a bit too cool for my skin tone (she is way fairer than I am). Ive been eyeballing the Boots’ singles again at Target but havent gotten any. 🙂
Karen says
I have to go back this week to buy some hangers and plan on conveniently popping by the makeup section. 🙂
Does your Target sell groceries? Ours recently added a fresh and frozen section to the packaged foods.
Nina says
Yep our Target has groceries – the one here by work has frozen + canned goods and bread, drinks, etc etc. The one by the house has all those + fresh fruit/produce.
That makes it pretty convenient for me – I can buy lunch and prowl the beauty aisles, just like you plan to do when you go buy `em hangers.
Oh speaking of hangers – I got a box (50 pcs in the box) of those non slip hangers @ Costco for 13 bucks, I think.
Karen says
OOOH GOOD TO KNOW! I need to go to Costco more often. It’s actually in the same complex as the Target, but I hate going down there because parking is always a zoo. I may have to buck it up and just go because that’s a great deal. The Target ones aren’t bad, but they’re not that cheap. Thanks!!
ace says
i love neutrals! the best thing is that when i go back to the uk i can get this really easily!!
Karen says
Hi Ace,
Not sure we’re you’re located in the US, but these are currently available at Target stores too.
ace says
currently im in connecticut- and thanks, ill have to make a trip to the nearest target and have a look!!!
Karen says
You’re welcome!
Melissa W. says
In general I like most Boots products. I loved their Original Formula Vanishing Day Cream but now it has disappeared from stores. I’ve never tried their eyeshadows though, thanks for the review! 😀
Karen says
You’re welcome! They also have a lovely gloss called Star Anise :

It’s nice for days when you want a little something but not too much.
amy says
Am I imagining things or this colour looks a bit like MAC Woodwinked? I saw the new episode of True Blood last night and Alcide is HAWT HAWT HAWT. I agree that the werewolves are much cuter than the twilight wolves.
Karen says
Hi Amy,
It’s more green than gold. Do you remember Mink & Sable from the Starflash collection? It’s pretty much a dead ringer for that shade.
Margaret McDermott says
I love the color on you! I definitely have my days when I just go for a natural look. For me though, I think I would have to use a base first to bring that color out on my complexion. But for $6, I’ll do it! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Margaret,
Which bases do you like? I’m currently on an Urban Decay Eden kick.
Margaret McDermott says
I’m actually in the market for one. I never used one before so I just use primer and then some white eyeshadow from Wet-n-Wild. It does the job for now! 🙂 I’ll definitely check out that Urban Decay one!
Karen says
Eden’s pretty good at smoothing the skin and keeping the shadow on. If you want something to bump up the richness of colors like Khaki, you might also want to layer something like a creamy pencil or a MAC Cream Color Base beneath. If you need any color recs let me know. 🙂
Trinidad says
Thanks! I needed a new natural eyecolor! 6 bucks! Me likey!
Karen says
Sweet! I hope you can get your hands on this color.
Trisha says
Definitely not as pigmented as I’d want, but for $6, you really can’t complain.
Karen says
They’re good for days when you just want to put something on and go!
Tiffany says
Love your Alcide pic! LOL! I’m doing nothing tonight – just surfing around 🙂
Karen says
That actually sounds like a lot of fun. I haven’t had enough veg time in my life as of late. Sitting on your bum = good times.
em says
it’s so strange to read articles about boots No7 makeup where it’s considered cheap! i’s really expensive here in the uk. . that eyeshadow is like £7.50, which is like nearly 12 dollars or something lol. but like you say, for the low price, it’ nice for a pretty, easy to work with look. they’re got a really good eyeshadow brush which i swear is almost a cheap dupe for my mac 217 🙂
Karen says
Really? What’s the brush called? I wonder if I can track it down here…
em says
it’s the eyeshadow blend and contour brush.. of course, the mac 217 is better, but i think the no7 brush is pretty similar. i left my make up brushes behind at home once when i went to visit the family (gah!) and bought the brush as there was a deal on, was pretty impressed-it saved the day as i am useless w/o my eye brushes lol.
Karen says
Okay, cool. I figure it would be hard to top the 217 (LOVE), but if it gets pretty close that still isn’t bad, right?
scarlettholly says
as a uk expat I love seeing Boots get some love. I know what you mean about 5 fingered clutziness. Right now I feel with the hot weather all I want to wear is sheer single color washes on my eyes – blending anything out or putting together colors seems to much work! Mad Men heaven – JOAN!!! Her skin, her coloring, her pizazz. swoooooooon. 🙂
Karen says
I looooove her! I was thrilled to see that she finally got her own office, WOOT!
Vonvon says
These are really good deal for a drugstore eyeshadow. And I love Boots. Khaki looks like a very safe and wearable shade for day to day look.
Karen says
Hi Vonvon,
What other items from the Boots makeup line do you like?
