Any time a product saves me room in my makeup bag (for more products), I applaud that product (“Good job, product! Three cheers!”).
I mean, who wouldn’t want more room for spare lip glosses and cat treats? 🙂
Not only does theBalm’s shimmery, warm golden brown Betty-Lou Manizer have a great name, it’s also supposed to do three space-saving jobs, working as a contouring bronzer, an all-over setting powder and an eye shadow.
This afternoon I put Betty-Lou to the test, starting by patting it on my lids and sweeping it into my creases.
LOVE!
Imagine a MAC Soft Brown loaded with golden frost. I feel like the deep orangey brown color and intensely shiny golden shimmer deepen my eyes. I can see myself wearing this as a layering shade with greens and blues, and also using it in the crease for smokey eyes.
After introducing it to my lids, I tried Betty-Lou as a shimmery all-over powder, lightly dusting it on my forehead, cheeks and chin, where it bestowed a warm golden glow.
Next came time to contour…
I reach for bronzer almost daily to chisel out my cheekbones, but I feel like Betty-Lou’s intense orangey brown color and golden frosty finish may be a tad too stark on my skin tone for contouring.
Or maybe not.
It could totally work if you like dramatically bronzed looks and shiny cheeks and cheekbones.
I’d wear it in a heartbeat if this were 1998 and we were heading to a club or party (complete with tight jeans, big hoops and high heels, haaay!), but these days? I wear more matte/natural looks, and in this case, I also think the frost amplifies my pores (a little).
Still, I like Betty-Lou a lot, although I think she might be best suited for warm-toned girls who can pull off bronzers with strong orange tones well — or makeup fans who like dramatic, bold contouring looks with lots of shimmer.

Run, eat, chill!
That’s my Wednesday night plan, and I’m sticking to it. I may even paint my toes.
Whatcha doin’? Hope you made it over the hump sans any annoying drama.
Ahoy! I can almost see Friday from here… 🙂

Gorgeous. I have been wanting to try theBalm products for a while but haven’t gotten around to it. I really want this one and their popular golden-beige highlighter. Oh, and your lips look gorgeous paired with this powder. Is that one of the new Nars pencils you’re wearing??
As for making it to Wednesday without drama, that would be a BIG negative…hopefully this weekend will be better. :/

Hi Becca,
Yup, I’m wearing NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Het Loo.

Most often I contour with matte bronzers, but I’ve been opting for light shimmer lately. I’m also ready to do a quick all-over bronzer dusting (is it summer yet?) and this looks ideal!

Hi Alison,
It’s really pretty as an all-over powder. I hope you give it a go!

Wow, this looks really beautiful! Do you think it would work with all skin tones?

I definitely prefer Betty’s sister, Mary for my light complexion! Highlighting for the win!

It gives you the most beautiful glow, Karen! I think this still works okay as contour, BUT it’s a very summer-specific look. 🙂
