Gimme, gimme jewel-toned blues and greens, soft browns, pinks and golds!
I’m as happy as a kid at the front of the deep fried Twinkie line at the county fair. 🙂 Girl, grab your ball gown and bedazzled mask, and prepare to be lured by a Smashbox Masquerade.
Available online now, Masquerade’s a small but comprehensive fall release with seven limited-edition pieces dressed in sophisticated indigo blue packaging. Pink, gold and peach shades softly light up lips and cheeks, and rich browns and beiges — along with a sprinkling of jeweled shimmery greens and blues — smolder on the eyes.
I think there’s something scary seductive about this collection. When I read the color story, I felt the shades drawing me into a fantasy that starred detailed satin ball gowns and glittering masquerade masks. I think the collection’s much prettier and softer than last year’s Reign, which had a cool edginess to it, but some of the colors in Reign weren’t the easiest ones to wear (two words: red eyeshadow).
Tabs hard at work
This afternoon, as Tabs pursued his busy kitty agenda, I tried out three of the new Masquerade products and had a ball.
- Creamy Cheek Color & Brush in Intrigue ($29), a warm matte pink cream blush in stick form, comes with a cleverly attached brush. I like the deep pigmentation and texture (thick, and somewhat dry, so it latches onto the skin really well), but it’s a little hard to blend with the brush (it doesn’t erase harsh lines for squat). I think you might be better off just using your fingers. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B
- Lip Enhancing Gloss in Reveal ($19), a shimmery golden nude, could probably pass as a MAC Dazzleglass Cream with its sleek packaging and non-sticky texture. I’m not crazy about the cinnamon scent, but at least Smashbox left it unflavored. They also gave it a wonderful wear time of about four hours. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+
- Liquid & Lash Overlay in Teal ($19) shimmers as one of the more innovative products I’ve seen from Smashbox in a while. After lining your eyes with the tip of the brush and applying your choice of mascara, grab the wand and sweep the ridged edge along the tips of your lashes for a hint of shimmery color. I love how rich this teal is, but it took more than three layers to lay down a solid line. I think I’ll mostly use it as a lash overlay (a subtle but noticeable effect). Cravings…
So, I’m majorly hormonal right now, and I’m craving a veggie burger and fries. If I don’t one or both of them into my tummy soon, I believe I will gnaw my arm.
Mmm… fries.
Enough about my junk food cravings. How was your Tuesday?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I am looking forward to this collection even if Summer just launched here. It just looks so amazing especially that teal liner 😀
Karen says
What summer stuff are you excited about, Paris?
makeup morsels says
omg I love that promo picture. So, so gorgeous. None of the actual products are really calling to me, though. I’m craving fries right now too -__-
Karen says
LOL, did you get your fries?
I have a weakness for Micky D’s…
makeup morsels says
omg I know! they’re fries are sooo salty and delicious
Solé says
This collection is gorgeous! I love the teal liquid liner (although, who has the time to apply three layers?) and I especially love the idea of the lash overlay. I dig the color of the cream blush, but I always have a hard time blending cream blush over face powder, so I tend to stay away. The e/s colors in the compact are all nice. Normally, I can’t get into fall colors in summer, but it’s been cold so it feels like summer never came. I guess I’m just ready to skip right over it, but I’m betting we’ll be seeing some 100° temps in late September. *sigh* :-\
Karen says
It’s been really cold here too — overcast in the morning and for most of the day. 🙁
I actually wore long pants to bed last night and had to grab an extra blanket. Where is our summer?!
Agnes says
that teal liner is GORGEOUSSSS! same with the gloss! however, the cream blush looks a bit dryingg.. dont get me wrong, the color is gorgeous! just seems a bit difficult to blend.. and based on your review, seems like it is true.. 🙁 i like my cream blusehs to be more creamy .. like NYX rouge cream blushes <3 hehe thanks for the heads up though!
Karen says
You’re welcome. I haven’t tried those NYX cream blushes but will see if I can track a few down. What’s your fave color?
BlovetBeauty says
Cute green liner!
Karen says
Yup, it is.
gio says
This is a gorgeous collection! The eyeliner is beautiful and so is the cream blush.
Karen says
I like it a lot, too!
mint says
those colours look amazing!! esp the liner! 😀 am looking forward to seeing more of this collection .thanks!
Karen says
Sure!
Tiffany says
I have the cream blush… I need to try it so I can return it if I’m not crazy about it. I also want the highlighter!
Karen says
Lemme know if your brush works better than mine. Maybe I just got a wonky one…
Did you pick up anything else from the release?
Tiffany says
I’ll let you know how it goes! I didn’t grab anything else, although the highlighter was calling my name 🙂
Karen says
I’ll do the same! I think that eye palette needs some lovin’, LOL!
Nina says
I am loving that cream blush’s color … so fresh and lovely! 🙂 Plus I am a sucker for green eyeliner! 🙂
Karen says
How I wish I discovered green liner sooner… it works miracles on brown eyes.
Happy Hump Day!
Nina says
Happyhumpday! 🙂
When I was wayyyyyy younger (like in school younger) eyeliner was the only thing that I could afford to buy and the only thing that my mom would let me wear … so I discovered the magic of colored eyeliner early on.
I remember having green, purple, blue, black and brown and id match my liner to my outfit LOL. I still have that addiction til now!
Lady Di. says
I love this collection! The onyl thing I probably wont get is the teal eyeliner because there were so many collections this past summer that had a similar color so I have enough of it. I cant wait until this comes out!
Karen says
Hi Lady Di,
I hear ya. Teal is one of my favorite colors too!
Music_Is_Freedom says
The Liner/Lash Overlay products aren’t completely new…the Canadian beauty brand Lise Watier has been producing “Lash & Line Glitter Duos” for several seasonal collections in the past few years.
Karen says
Good to know, thanks!
ace says
i LOVE all three, may have to get them!!
Karen says
Hi Ace,
Are you a fan of the Smashbox line?
Trisha says
Weird…The teal liner looked way better as a swatch than actually on your eye. That’s disappointing.
Karen says
Hi Trisha,
Yeah, it’s not the easiest to work with. I do love the color though…
Eileen says
I don’t care much for Smashbox (colors “turn” on me), but I love the promo picture. We are certainly going to be smoldering this fall! I think Chanel set the bar really high with their fall collection, but so many other companies are releasing beautiful collections, too. Just when I think I’ve got it all, a new fall item comes out that I absolutely love. My latest tumble? Guerlain’s Rue Sevres palette.
Veggie burger and fries? When do we eat!
Karen says
I will have mine with avocado and cheese, please. Ooh, and a vanilla shade would be great too. 😀
Anna says
You look gorgeous with that teal liner!!
Karen says
Thanks, Anna!
Rae says
Is it crazy that my favourite part is the packaging? :p Seriously; it’s gorgeous! Plus, it’s not going to disappoint… unlike that teal liner.
Karen says
The packaging is very elegant. It does pick up the fingerprints though.
Angie Serrrano says
it looks so pretty and natural on you, the teal liquid liner.. i wish i could buy that but i would have to buy it online because i live in colombia.. it would take a long time. the collection looks really good and fancy:)
amy says
The creme cheek colour and highlighting is very pretty and it reminds me of MAC’s Cremeblend Blush in So Sweet So Easy.
em says
ooh, that teal eyeliner swatch looks gorgeous! shame it doesn’t seem to come out like that..beautiful blush and lip gloss too. ah, i want it all!
Cindy (Prime Beauty) says
Just picked up the eye shadow palette today. I really love this collection and I’m not usually a big Smashbox fan. The highligher is very niice too–it can look pink or gold depending on your skin tone. Loved the cream blush too–goes on like a cream but feels like a powder on.
I’m digging it!
