Like silk. That’s how the 12 glosses in the new MAC Kissable Lipcolours line feel on my lips.
Coming in for a landing with the MAC Peacocky collection on January 6, these brash beauties take their cues from peacock feathers — bold but lightweight (like a feather) pink, coral, red, fuchsia, blue (!), brown and mauve — with a thin, non-sticky texture like that of a liquid lipstick, but the crazy shiny finish of a gloss.
What can we expect from the MAC Peacocky Collection? Brace yourself for intense lip and eye colors with dramatic finishes. The new Kissable Lipcolours are joined by a new line of pigmented metallic shadows. The Mega Metal Shadows ($19.50 each) will make eyes shine like the edge of a vorpal sword in shades of white, champagne, mauve, gold, violet, teal burgundy, copper, green, purple, navy and black.
The way these Kissable Lipcolours feel reminds me of how smooth and comfy the MAC Cremesheens feel, but they don’t look anything alike. These pack much more pigment. Where the Cremesheens whisper sweet nothings of light lip color, the Kissable Lipcolours SCREAM AND SHOUT! These colors are bold and cover lips with completely.
The two I’ve tried, Woo Me (a light pink) and Temper Tantra (a midtone reddish brown that must have been inspired by MAC Paramount Lipstick), set down a crazy amount of color.
Because of how pigmented they are, they can be a little tricky to apply. At first with these I struggled with streaking, but I quickly found that when I applied just the tiniest bit to my bottom lip with the included doe-foot applicator, and then rubbed my lips together, I got a very nice distribution of color. It works really well with Woo Me, which looks kinda gross and milky to me if it’s over-applied.
As for the texture of the Kissable Lipcolours, MAC’s elastomers definitely deliver. I could almost forget I’m wearing anything at all on my lips.
Polybutene, the very first compound listed in the ingredients, is an elastomer (generally considered safe for use in cosmetics and personal care), a non-drying compound commonly used to thicken the oils in lipsticks, eye makeup and skin products to make them feel slick, but the Kissable Lipcolours remain remarkably thin and light.
As delightful as these feel, smell and taste (like light vanilla) on my lips, and with a much-appreciated non-drying formula, I do wish they had better wear time. I get only about 90 minutes from them (2 hours tops), so if you long for lasting lip color, that might be something to think about.
The entire MAC Kissable Lipcolour line…
- Enchantee — a light bluish pink
- Woo Me — a light pinkish nude
- So Vain — a muted dirty coral
- Vanity Fiar — a mid-tone blusih pink
- Exxxhibitionist — a red-toned coral
- Strut Your Stuff — a bright red
- Scandelicious — a bluish fuchsia
- Peacocky — a sky blue with reddish pearl
- Super — a muted neutral brown
- Temper Tantra — a mid-tone reddish brown
- Flaunting It — a grayish mauve
- Love Peck — a blackened blood red
All told, I’m still on the fence about these… I’m blown away by their texture and pigmentation, but that weak wear time kinda fails.
PRICE: $18 for a 0.17-oz. tube

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

temper tantra looks AWESOME on you…the lack of stay time scares me though 🙁 they looooook goooood though, WANT
Karen says
Do you have MAC Paramount? It’s the lipstick version of that color. It has a matte finish, but you could always layer a clear gloss on to get some shine.
vonnie says
I don’t have that one, but I’ll have to look for it next time I’m at the mac counter. These new kissable colors are seriously calling my name BUT I’ve recently started using NYX mega shine lip glosses and they look just as pigmented for a quarter of the cost, so may just stick to those, lol. and they smell like cherries
Karen says
I like those in theory but not so much in practice! I can’t hang with the smell. 🙁
Angela says
I love the smell of the NYX lipglosses! And the glosses are just my number one in general formulation wise. lol
Karen says
I know a lot of people love them! I really wanted to, but the scent’s just way to strong for me.
Tiffany says
Hmmm I can’t decide if I wanna try one of these or not… I should probably pass since I have a million lip products already. I’m interested to hear more about the eyeshadows in the collection!
Karen says
I’m gonna try to see if I can swatch the entire thing soon. I have a MAC store 10 minutes away from my house now (oh noes!), which makes everything easier!
Debbie says
I like how Temper Tantra looks on you! Not sure I’d like em for myself…although I am kinda curious to see the blue 🙂
Karen says
I’m oddly fascinated by it too. I’m way to square to pull that off in real life though!
Paris B says
Temper Tantra looks different on the back of your hand and on your lips. I think I prefer how it looks in the hand swatch. Although Exxxhibitionist sounds pretty!
Karen says
I did the thing where I spread the color around on my lips (seems to distribute the pigment), which is why it looks darker in the hand swatch.
Maddy says
I want Peacocky… it’s blue :3ssss
Maddy says
I accidentally pressed s instead of shift XD
Karen says
LOL, no worries. Would you wear the blue out in public? I like the idea of it but probably wouldn’t go there.
Jeannine says
I’m curious about the blue, just enough to test it out in the store. I’m not sure I can rock the blue lip color taking the 5 year old to school! These do intrigue me, though.
Karen says
Yeah, me too. I wonder how the folks at the library or Trader Joe’s would react, LOL!
Vonvon says
The lipcolours are beautiful. But I am more into the Peacocky eyeshadows. 🙂
Karen says
A lot of people seem more into the shadows, I’ve noticed.

I’m really looking forward to these. I’m thinking of them as a work appropriate gloss rather than a lipstick-like product.
I tried to pick up I Get No Kick today and that counter hadn’t gotten them in! Going to hit up the MAC store tomorrow.
I did splurge and get the Chanel Ombres Perlees. LOVE! I’m wearing the peach and violet shades and they might be my perfect look. I took your advice and used my fingers because the 4 different brushes (natural and synthetic) I tried did not pick up the product AT ALL. I’m thinking of picking up some sponge applicators.
Karen says
Hi Steph,
I called the store near my house and they still don’t have ’em in yet! Let me know if you score your tube tomorrow.
And oooh! So glad you love the Ombres Perlees. I’ll have to try the peach/violet combo. I did try the sponge applicators and they were okay — the warm from fingers seems to really help a lot with the distribution of the color.
steph b says
I picked up I Got No Kick on my way home from work today and already love it. The MA did say they only sent a few to each store since the last few collections have had so many pieces and they have a lot of inventory left.
I even got complimented on my Ombres Perless look today. They should seriously consider releasing singles in this texture.

Hi Karen!
I love Woo Me on you!
And, I just have to say this, your photos are always so clear! Loves!

Karen says
Hi Mary,
Thanks! Glad to hear you like the photos. 🙂
Happy (early) new year!
Sarahc says
Yay! I kept trying but the blog wouldn’t open for me tonight, but it is now! I don’t know what I would do without my mbb fix, lol! Not kidding.
Karen says
Hi Sarahc,
Thanks for your patience! Servers can be fickle things.
Jennifer A. says
Do these remind you of the Chanel Rouge Allure Laques at all? From what you said about pigmentation and comfort, it seems like it, but the Chanel’s wear pretty well for me.
Karen says
Kinda — I’d say they’re slightly thicker and glossier!
Bovetbeauty says
Gotta get my hands on these – they look so smooth and silky on the lips!
Amee says
pretty pretty pretty… u looking very pretty 🙂
superb hair style..
Karen says
Thanks, Amee!
Katrina says
Vorpal sword! Hahaha, are you a closet geek Karen? If so, awesome!
These look nice, but I don’t know. I tend to need something a little more fool proof when it comes to my lip color.
Karen says
Haha! I’m proud to say I’m a geek! 😀
I hear you about needing something fool proof — if I can put on a gloss without a mirror while I’m walking down the street then it’s tops!
Nina says
i was curious about this product … but if it doesnt wear as well as a lipglass or a cremesheen glass (that i lovelovelove) … ill probly pass!
Karen says
I’ve had great luck with the Lipglasses but not with the Cremesheens. I like how they look, though!
lexi says
Interesting – I have the hardest time with MAC lip products. So far, cremesheen is the best formula that plays nicely with my lips. I’m definitely curious about this. Actually, this new lines sounds right up my alley so I’ll be looking forward to this.
I felt overwhelmed by the Tartan line and all the Holiday gifts they were pumping out so I’m looking forward to see what MAC has to offer for Spring.
Faye says
I was really looking forward to trying these, but 90 minutes of wear time? That’s ridiculous. I don’t mind paying more for quality (see: my love for Guerlain Rouge de G lippies), but something that wears off that quickly just isn’t worth it. For shame, MAC!
AlienBaby says
Great review! It’s hard to find a long lasting lip color that actually looks good on me, so I am not too disappointed these don’t last too long considering how great they look on you. I NEED temper tantra!
Bella says
They both look great on you but I wouldn’t waste my money either on a lip product that lasts only 90 minutes. Thanks for the review. Could you also start posting what you are wearing on you cheeks and eyes in the pictures? I love your entire look for the picture of you wearing Woo Me (What is on your cheeks? 🙂
Solangel says
Oooh Temper Tantra is gorgeous, too bad about the wear time D:
lissa says
looks beautiful, was this with a lip liner? (the wear time)
I want Peacocky so bad and I would absolutely wear it, I think it would be fun!
Kimberly says
karen! these look amazing! i can’t wait to see them in person! & btw, your undereyes look amazing!! as a fellow concealer enthusiast, i couldn’t help but notice how bright they’ve been looking in the past few entries. share your secret? `=] thank you!
Karen says
Hi Kimberly,
I love that term — “concealer enthusiast.” I want to put it on a bumper sticker:
HONK IF YOU’RE A CONCEALER ENTHUSIAST!
Anyway, I’ve been using the following routine. It’s extensive, but it photographs pretty well, especially when I’m tired (damn insomnia):
MAC Strobe Cream
Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener
Bobbi Brown Color Corrector in Peach
MAC Pro Longwear Concealer
Anna says
Hi!
Do you have a blog post listing ingredients in beauty products that are not good for you?
Thanks
Bebe says
Love the lipcolors on you! I have Exxxhibitionist and Scandelicious. They are my favorite lip products. Also I was wondering what kind of camera do you use for your blog?
