Hey, boo. You having a good Tuesday? I hope so. Before we take a look at the new JK Jemma Kidd eyeshadows for fall ($16 each), grab a spoon, and pull up a chair. I’m gonna fix you a bowl of my world famous Love Yourself Soup. 🙂
Yup, Love Yourself Soup. I know it sounds silly, but I’m convinced that after you have a bowl, you’ll feel that much better. And really, doesn’t “Love Yourself Soup” sound cooler than “Corn Soup with Tomatoes, Garlic and Basil”?
Oh, what’s that, you say? You’d like to help me in the kitchen? That’s so sweet!
Okay, let’s start by chopping some tomatoes (about a cup will do).
Mini-heirloom tomatoes from Trader Joe’s
While I work on the tomatoes, you can smash and mince a few cloves of garlic for us. I lurves me some garlic, but we can use a little less if you’d like. From one to three cloves should do.
Now let’s warm up some olive oil in a pan…
Good. Now throw in the garlic first, followed by the tomatoes.
Excellent! Keep an eye on that pan, and let me know when the tomatoes look nice and soft. When you give me the word, I’ll pour in some Trader Joe’s Creamy Corn Soup, along with a handful of frozen corn. Then we’ll let those simmer for a bit…
Perfect. Now let me pour you a bowl and top it with some freshly chopped basil from my little garden on the deck.
Ah… Isn’t that yum? 🙂
Now we can dish about the fall 2011 Eye Colours from JK Jemma Kidd ($16 each) without listening to our tummies rumble.
Jemma just added these six new powder shadows to her line, and I think they’re tops. Soft, with an easy-to-blend formula and pigment galore, I think they even can pass for MAC eyeshadows (with the Veluxe Pearl finish).
In fact, several of the shades remind me of some my favorite MAC colors; matte beige Silhouette bears a passing resemblance to Brule, shimmery golden bronze Scene looks a bit like Woodwinked, and shimmery green Stylised could almost be a dupe for Humid.

I know — they’re awfully expensive for drugstore ($16 a pop). Like Pixi, the JK Jemma Kidd brand is one of Target’s higher end cosmetics lines. Pricey, yes, but I do believe there’s quality there. These shadows last all day long on me, exhibit very little (if any) fallout and are a cinch to apply. Plus, aren’t the colors gorgeous?
PRICE: $16 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Target stores and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A (I wish they were less expensive)
Take it from, Ryan…
Remember how I mentioned in yesterday’s poll that I’ve been trying to be less critical of myself? Well, I didn’t do very well with that this afternoon.
The part of me that loves to point out all of my faults had a field day today (I affectionately call her “The B*tch”). That’s why I made myself a heaping serving of Love Yourself Soup today, even though it’s about 85 degrees here right now.
I feel a lot better now, though. I had a good cry with a friend on the phone earlier, and, of course, the soup helped. 🙂
You be kind to yourself this afternoon and the rest of this week, okay? If you do, I promise to do the same.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Your corn soup looks delicious!!!! =)
Ouch, $16 for an eyeshadow? I already have an issue paying $11-$11.50 for a Mac eyeshadow in pan form. I don’t think I’ll be checking out Jemma Kidd’s eyeshadows anytime soon. Too expensive to be sold at Target. Most people shop at Target because they’re looking for great deals. =/

A recipe with my daily serving of makeup reviews – that’t just the way to go!! I love cooking, although now you’ve made me hungry 🙂
I’m not too moved by these shadows, though. Might be cause I’m distracted looking at the new MAC collections – the one here in Vancouver is holding a release event for the fall collections and I’m about to head over there and try not to buy the whole place out…

Aw Karen, I’m sorry you had a poopy day. I would hug if you could! I hope Tabs is being nice and cuddly. Karen, you are an amazing person and one of the most upbeat and genuinely good people I know (well, I know I don’t really KNOW you, but ya get it). Life doesn’t always take us where we expect or want, but we make the best of it. If things are meant to be, they’ll happen. But we shouldn’t squander the life we have longing for the one we want, right? If that makes sense. This lesson is still fresh in my head as I had to give myself a stern little talking to earlier in the day, haha. No, I’m not crazy. Well, maybe just a little.
And your coup looks AMAZING! I wish we had a Trader Joe’s here. Or a Whole Foods. Or anything really.

So, I was browsing around on one of my favorite sites today and came across this:

Tell your inner B*tch to back off, we all love you! 🙂 Try to remember that just because you screw up, exhibit a few faults or don’t live up to your own expectations, that doesn’t mean you aren’t a fabulous, talented and worthwhile human being! I’m sure even Ryan Gosling makes mistakes! 😉
Also, I’m so trying that soup as soon as the weather cools down!

That soup looks delish! I’ll have to try it out sometime.
I think having a good cry every now and then is healthy. I had one 2 days ago. It’s important to release those emotions, so they don’t get bottled up. 🙂
Rocky and Jazz send you mental snuggles.

Awww, Karen, hugs!
It was a mad Tuesday for me as well! I felt really crabby and snappy all day…..longing so much for my ME time that was never enough!
It’s 3am Wednesday now and I just woke up from a nap to finish marinating some chicken for dinner tonight.
Ok, now the eyeshadows, they are very pretty but can’t they lower the price? But then Jemma Kidd in the UK isn’t cheap either!
And yea, i am gonna try making your Love Yourself Soup one day. Except I will substitute it with fresh oregano leaves that my daughter planted, as we have not fresh basil. 😉
Here’s to a better day and the rest of the week for us all!

Yummy recipe and not to complicated for the a crappy cook like me. Have a great week, we love ya!

Karen, life can be so stressful and I think that at times it’s because we expect so much from ourselves. It’s good that you remembered to take a breath and nurture yourself. Just wanted to say that you are so sincere and genuine in your posts that it really feels like you are a great friend (I also thought this when I read your 9-11 post, I was so moved by it)- so thank you for that.
brittany says
you should post recipes more often! 🙂 I’m not sure about those eyeshadows though,I think I’ll put $2 more with it and get an UD or Mac shadow 🙂

Karen, I love your Love yourself soup. I am so glad I read this, it really hit home with me. I too have a problem with le B*#%tch and she can get get on my nerves. That’s when I’ve gotta put on my big girl sassy pants, take off the earrings and show her who’s boss!! I know you know what I mean 🙂
Thank you so much for being real. I love these stories you share, because it helps me to realize everyone’s got their own challenge to deal with in life, and mine isn’t so different from yours. I think we could all be easier on ourselves and each other, b/c the expectations (esp. in this country) are pretty ridiculous. LOVE YA GIRLFRAN! Keep that chin up high! You know we got your back 😉
Anna says
With you there girl, needing lots of that soup today. Hugs!

Your soup sounds fab. And don’t be down on yourself! If you, with all your beauty and writing awesomeness, can find flaws, what hope is there for us regular gals??! And, let’s be honest, even if you’re feeling bad, you’ve got to find some joy in how great your brows and Lloyd are looking! 🙂
PS Seriously, you totally rock – please don’t forget that!!!!
Baba says
You look so pretty in all the fotos — love the bangs on you!!!!

Aww… glad you feel better! I hate when I have those days.
You look great in the first photo, by the way!

Awww, hugs for Karen! Tigger sends kitty snuggles, and Gizmo is happily mewing to express how fabulous your makeup looks (she’s not so much of a snuggler, but she LOVES watching me apply makeup). Whenever I have those days, I try to refuse to indulge the “bitch” side by doing something I enjoy, even if it’s just petting a kitty or watching some SVU. Don’t let her get the satisfaction of bringing you down!
