Wearing the new L’Oréal Paris Colour Caresse by Colour Riche Luminous Lipcolour in Violet Chiffon
It’s been an exciting afternoon! First, I discovered what might be my new favorite drugstore lipstick (more on that in a minute); then, I improvised a pasta dish without following a recipe, and it didn’t turn out completely terrible. 🙂
If you’ve ever partaken of my improv cooking before, you’d know that it’s a crapshoot. Sometimes it works out, but sometimes, well, let’s just say that calling it “whack to the Nth degree” would be kind.
Luckily, I had some good ingredients on hand. I made a sauce of olive oil, minced garlic, crushed red pepper, halved cherry tomatoes and clam juice from a can, threw that in with some spaghetti, and garnished it with basil and salty Pecorino Romano cheese.
I wanted to add the clams for protein but didn’t realize they were whole clams until I opened the can.
Eww! I like diced clams, but I can’t deal with chopping them up when they’re whole. They’re just so…squishy and rubbery, and there’s that dark stuff that oozes out of ’em.
I ended up leaving out the clams, but I did add the clam juice to the sauce for flavor.
The dish was probably the best improv pasta I’ve made in a while, and I should have immortalized it with a pic! — but blast if I didn’t forget to take one before I finished devouring the meal.
Finding my new favorite drugstore lipstick this afternoon helped to soften the blow. The new $9.99 L’Oréal Paris Colour Caresse by Colour Riche Luminous Lipcolours are more than just mouthfuls. They’re also all kinds of rad.
From the left: Pink Cashmere 171, Blushing Sequin 172, Violet Chiffon 175 and Pink Vinyl 183
Loaded with pigment and moisture, these 16 creamy, modern marvels are rarities among moisturizing lippies because they don’t highlight any flakes on my perpetually parched lips. L’Oréal’s lightweight Luminous Lipcolours are pigmented enough to satisfy my almost insatiable thirst for color, even with a single swipe, and hydrating enough to keep the flakes at bay.
After trying four of the colors so far, my lips and I are happy, moisturized and utterly impressed.
The unscented, unflavored pinks, neutrals and berries in the line headline the show like silent movie matinee versions of the far more expensive Pure Colour Sensuous Rouges from Estee Lauder ($28 each) and Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shines ($32).
Swatches from the left: Pink Cashmere 171, Blushing Sequin 172, Violet Chiffon 175 and Pink Vinyl 183

And because they’re about $10 versus $30, they’re easier to stock up on and ferret away for makeup emergencies (just in case).
PRICE: $9.99 each (16 shades)
AVAILABILITY: Available now at drugstores and Ulta stores (I’ve still yet to spot them online)
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+

Oh hello lovely! Your 1st picture looks just like a promo ad shot except better because you really got me wanting these! I love it, and I love how the lipsticks look too. Not sure if we’ll get them, but will most certainly keep an eye out for them 🙂
Yelena says
I agree, Karen looks like a model in the first pic! look at that hair! wow!
Nicole says
Pink vinyl is perfect! I think that’s my favourite shade on you.
Madelynn says
Lovely shades you picked. But I’m mostly commenting because your hair looks BOMB.
CrystalCandy says
I love Pink Vinyl on you!

I came across these at the airport a couple months ago but they are not available in our local (Malaysian) drugstores yet. I should have grabbed them back then! They look absolutely lovely on you and I agree that the formula is quite good.
Jessica says
They look so amazing on you! My favorites so far of the ones I’ve tried are Merino Mauve and Sunset Angora – good choices for the fair-skinned ladies! Oh, did want to ask – are the labels mixed up on the first product shot? It says: “From the left: Pink Cashmere 171, Blushing Sequin 172, Violet Chiffon 175 and Pink Vinyl 183” but I believe Blushing Sequin is the first shade, then Violet Chiffon, then Pink Cashmere, and lastly Pink Vinyl (which, by the way, looks especially fierce on you, Karen!).
Jessica says
Oh, also wanted to add that they’re $7.99 at Target, and over the weekend they had a $1 off L’Oreal Cosmetics item printable coupon on Target.com (to use in Target stores) – not sure if it’s still there, but probably worth a check! Great deal!

Wow, the packaging of the US Caresse lipsticks looks so sleek… In Germany they look and feel so cheap and bulky with their clear plastic cap. Pink Vinyl looks gorgeous on you! 🙂
Louise says
These look great on you! I picked up Pink Cashmere a few days ago, but unfortunately I think it’s a little too blue toned for me. It looks a bit strange on my skintone :/
Also, your eye makeup is gorg!! Hopefully you will let us know what you were wearing soon!
Astrid says
Oh my… you look gorgeous!!! I love my Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine, but yes, they are quite hefty in price. So glad you reviewed these L’Oreal ones. I just saw them yesterday in my local drugstore. Also, thanks for mentioning they are unscented. I hated the scent of the usual L’Oreal lipstick! I’m going to get some ;).
Rae // theNotice says
Unflavoured, unscented, and $10. Where do I get in line? 😛
(Also, can I please just add a +1 to Paris’ comment?! If you were in the L’Oreal adverts for these, I’m pretty sure thousands of women would find themselves flocking to the drugstores for a Colour Caresse… or five. Your photographs make them look ridiculously good!)
Chelsea says
Saw these the day I left the states! They have them here in France too, but I’ll wait until I get back, because they’re cheaper in the US.
I am SO HAPPY that they’re unscented/unflavored. I hate lipsticks with scents and tastes, it’s pretty gross.
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
oooh pretty! Definitely checking these out. So bright and pretty and happy! 😀
Minnegirl says
I gotta agree with the above comments….you look awesome! Hair, makeup, promo shot:)
artemis says
these are soft and pretty and look so good on you 😀
i got the shade 03(well, mom bought it for me) but i think it actually shows my flakes and gets into my lip lines 🙁 idk why….and disappears very fast….so i gave it to mom
Suzanne says
Jeez Karen, are you pursuing a new career as supermodel? Gorgeous!
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
OH WOW! You look too crazy good with all of these! I’ll have to take a closer look soon!
Gwen @ Makeup Toys says
Oh my Karen! You look gorgeous here! I love the Loreal Lipstick Packaging! Looks expensive!
Nina says
Ooohhh the packaging is so luxurious – love it! Plus the colors are pretty!
Ruchita says
These are pretty! I love Blushing Sequin and Pink Cashmere. Also, your eye makeup looks gorgeous!
That pasta dish sounds yummy. I love cherry tomatoes. We have a tomato plant called Sweet 100 and it’s starting to produce some sweet, juicy little cherry tomatoes. There’s nothing like fresh produce in the summer!
Yelena says
Karen,
my lips have been extra DRY & FLAKY too! its been driving me nuts! i’ve tried lip balms, lip butters, chap stick, you name it. they just kept flaking and flaking and becoming more obvious with each color I tried…well have you ever tried the ELF studio lip exfoliator? Its a $3 miracle for lips! it comes in a regular lipstick tube and u apply it in circles to ur lips to get all those yuky flakes off but it also is moisturizing at the same time. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! 🙂
Emalitsa says
Hi Karen! I have the purple one of these, Violet Chiffon, and although at first it looked intimidating I am now totally in love! Smoothest formula I’ve felt and goes on so nicely! And the colours are awesome! Great pics and thanks for the review!
Christine says
Looking lovely as ever, Karen! Pick up Silky Java when you can!
Marian says
Wow! You’re looking gorgeous!
Lisa S. says
Karen, the lippies are great and I will indulge. But just let me say you always look gorgeous. But you look extra amazing here!
And your making me hungry even though I just had lunch! I think I’ll “borrow” your impromptu recipe for din-din tonight. :0)
Amanda says
Very pretty colors! Violet Chiffon looks amazing on you and your hair is kicking butt today! It looks so soft and silky.
Angela says
I’ve been waiting for you to review these! I don’t even like lip stuff, but I love these. I love violet chiffon. I also got the coral colored one. Angora sunset, I think. I really don’t like that one as much. I think you need a tan to rock it…
Karen says
Hi Angela,
That color sounds really pretty. I think I want to try one of the neutrals next (you can never have enough, LOL!). 🙂
Hope you’re having a nice day so far. Are you going to be doing anything for the 4th?
musical says
You are rockin’ these! I haven’t yet seen these at any of the local CVSs :(. I would love to get one or two shades-unscented, unflavored and just $10 for such a creamy, dreamy lipstick-what’s not to love!
Karen says
Hi Musical,
These are super new! I bet it’s only a matter of time before they get to your CVS. 🙂
What are you up to for the 4th? Doing anything fun?
musical says
Ha ha! And then they’ll be gone, and not re-stocked :-D. No, seriously, good stuff disappears fast ;). I’ll keep an eye. I am also waiting for Gud by Burt’s Bees to appear on my local CVS shelves!
Not sure what i am doing tomorrow-may be just chill at home and cook something fun! What about you?
Karen says
It’s the same way here too. I feel like whenever I see something good at CVS or Target I need to pounce otherwise I’ll never see it again!
We’ve got a mellow day planned. Just puttering around the house and maybe some cleaning because my in-laws might be visiting this weekend. If I’m feeling ambitious I might try my hand at some homemade veggie burgers. 🙂
Naomi says
OMG they all looks so gorgeous on you Karen! Must check out
Katherine G says
Those colors look amazing on you! I am getting in to lip colors now, and these look like great ones to get into. Pink Cashmere and Pink Vinyl are the most appealing to me.
Barbara says
Saw these at Target but was scared because of the scent/taste thing! Now that I see your review I’m kicking myself for not getting a couple. You look gorgeous!!
JennySue Makeup says
that pink vinyl is the bomb on you- so pretty!!!!!
Cooper says
Wow, those look amazing. I couldn’t decide which shade I like best on you. They all look so pretty. I must check those out!
Karen says
Hi Cooper,
I hope you give these a go! 🙂 If you find any must-have colors please let me know.
BooBooNinja says
Pink Vinyl is very pretty on you.
Ankita@corallista says
Blushing Sequin for me please! I was quite surprised at how pigmented these look on the lips cos they apply really sheer in the swatch!
Dominique says
Hello,
Lippies for the US are not the same in France I fear ( formulas ). Here those lipsticks don’t wear, I think they are even bad. For Essie nail polishes it’s not the same formula as well but I love my Essie polishes, they’re just great. I wonder what are the brands where products have the same formulas ? M.A.C maybe ? L’Oréal well I don’t think so.
Alisha Badillo says
You can find them online at Ulta!
Millie says
I love the colors and the price! I remember when you recommended NYC lip shines. I bought them and you really give great color recs. Thanks! And you look absolutely gorgeous Karen. Love your hair too!
Chessie says
ohhhh i might just be stealing your recipe there, sounds yummers!
ps pink vinyl looks lovely on you 🙂 xxxx

I NEED pink vinyl .. yes NEED lol
Jess says
I bought the Linen color and love it! Nice and natural. I went back for more!
Susan says
You look gorgeous yet approachable in all your pics. Each color lipstick works so well on you.
I currently have Rose Taffeta and Violet Chiffon; I’m wearing the former today for the first time, and I must say the color pay-off is much better than I had expected. I purchased Violet Chiffon today, during my lunch break; I cannot wait to try this color this week as I think it’s a much flashier hue with that cool, blue undertone. I am lemming for Merona Mauve, which is being elusive to get a hold of in pristine, untouched-by-grimy-human-fingers condition.
I like this new line of lipsticks from L’oreal, especially considering I don’t have to reapply much and the color selection is quite good. And all the better for $8-10 a pop!
