Current cravings:
- A Pink Power Smoothie, even though I already had one today for breakfast.
Is there an unwritten rule I don’t know about against drinking two of the same kind of smoothies in one day?! #deepthoughts.
- A hug from Tabs, because I haven’t seen him since I fed him gravy this morning.
He usually “supervises” me in my office during the mornings because he likes the sun in here, but I think he’s afraid of the new pink shelves, so he’s hiding.
- The poppin’ pigments in Make Up For Ever’s new $42 Artist Palette Vol. 2 Colors You Crave
May brings us two new Artist Palettes from MUFE — Vol. 1, Nudes You Need, which I played with yesterday, and this brighter one here, Vol. 2, called Colors You Crave.
Now, if my stomach rumbles through these next few paragraphs in this post, I apologize. You see, I am currently craving lunch, in addition to these colors. 🙂
The palette houses nine pans, which are arranged into color-coordinating columns of three (or rows, if you turn it sideways), of Make Up For Ever eyeshadow in their incredibly soft, crazy creamy gel-[dash]-powder formula (they reformulated their eyeshadows last year).
So, how soft are they? Well, this morning El Hub stopped by my desk to loiter as he sometimes does and asked what I was doing. Before I could answer, he reached out and touched the palette.
Of course, he gouged a big divot into one of the pans just by brushing his Tarzan hand against it, so you have to be a little careful with these… All of that is just to say that they’re very soft. They almost feel like a cream, but they’re not. They aren’t wet at all. They’re still powders, but they’re squishy powders.
I haven’t been wearing this batch of colors for very long today, but the neutrals I wore yesterday, which I applied around 10 in the morning and removed around 8 at night, had lost about a third of their intensity over that time.
Not bad, but not epic either.
But I wasn’t using my regular NARS Pro Prime at the time because I was trying out a new concealer (new to me, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye, which I’ll be reviewing soon) and was using it on my lids as a primer, so that could have affected the overall longevity of the shadows.
For this look I took MUFE’s lead and used the three coordinating colors in the middle column. I used the top shade as my highlight (the shade on the left in the above pic), then mixed the teal and the sort of metallic green, which looks a little like MAC Club, together. I mixed them on the back of my hand and applied that on my lids.
There was a lot of shimmer going on, so I also wanted a transition shade. I ended up grabbing MAC Texture and using that in my crease.
I also did a little something-something in the outer corners for depth using the black shade from the MUFE Nudes You Need palette.
All told, Vol. 2 here is definitely flashier than Vol. 1, but I think Vol. 1 is probably more useful day to day — definitely for me. I think Vol. 2 is a good every-once-in-a-while palette, like a fancy dress that you only take out every once in a while…unless you wear colors like these everyday, in which case, good for you! 🙂
But generally speaking I see this one as more of a special event palette for me, or, in combination with a batch of neutrals, a good source of spunky accent colors.
PRICE: $42
AVAILABILITY: Available now online and at Make Up For Ever counters and Sephora
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (only thing is, I think the three lightest shades are a tad redundant)

I feel like the colors are not the most unique. Maybe it would be a good color palette for someone who doesn’t have any? I’d wear that pink in a heartbeat though 🙂
Jennifer says
Gorgeous, I love all the colors.

Those swatches are just beautiful! I loveee that teal one you used in your look. I just have to have one of these! I don’t need another palette but these colors are doing something to me lol

Wow, the look you made with it is gorgeous, your lids are glowing! They look like fish skin, as my husband would say (it’s a compliment in his mind, and it applies to anything bright and shimmery).
The thing that bugs me with this palette is that the pink and purple are not eye safe but MUFE doesn’t make that very clear, unless you look under the palette and notice they’re called “blush”.
Lauren says
Ahhhh…my hub would be in the doghouse for smushing my makeup!! Hope El Hub is safe there!! 🙂
I’ll probably pass on these palettes since I’m an oil can in the summer and it’ll probably melt on me, but I’m so curious what you put in your smoothies…I’m looking to change mine up!

I got this one, even though I already owned singles of a few of the colors. I absolutely love it, but I wear brights a lot. It was a (relatively) inexpensive way to try the shades I didn’t have yet. Peacock (ME-302) and Black Purple (ME-930) are exquisite.
The bright pink and purple aren’t considered eyesafe in the U.S., and the look book that comes with the palette uses them as blushes. I use them on eyes and cheeks with no problems, but some people can have reactions to a red pigment in them.

You created such a beautiful look with this palette. Your swatches always make me feel like I need stuff. Like right now I’m pretty sure I need this palette. Even though I probably don’t. Or do I? lol

Wow, that pink is intense.

What a gorgeous palette! I love all the colours, and the look you did is so pretty and glowy.

Thanks, Gio! Happy Friday!

Stunning eye look, Karen! You chose wiseley, lol 🙂 MUFE is currently one of my favorite brands for eyeshadow.

Have you used any of their matte eyeshadows? If you could recommend some great browns…
Estefania says
Those look so nice! Especially that Club-like shade. I LOVE the itCosmetics Bye Bye Undereye! On me, though, it’s way too creamy to use as a primer. I have to really set it well under my eyes or it will crease.
Karen says
Hi Estefania,
I totally got the MAC vibe when I swatched that dark gray/green. I mixed in the teal and was like, YES! 🙂
Ooh, good idea re: Bye Bye Undereye. I’ll try setting the Bye Bye Undereye with a powder first and see what happens.
How have you been? Have you discovered any new great makeup that I need in my life ASAP?
Estefania says
GIIIIIIIIIIRL Do I ever! I recently went shopping with the BFF and went kinda nuts.
Highlights: MAC ProLongwear Waterproof Nourishing foundation (put it on before my shift at MAC but didn’t have time to set it, it still didn’t move), Sephora Airbrush foundation is DIVINE, Dior Cheek and lip glow is also soooo nice, so is Bittersweet blush from UD. That’s just to start! 😀
I’ve been good! Work has been crazy, but tbh I missed hanging around MBB. I trust Tabs isn’t working you too hard??
Kwmechelle says
*Note to self- when reading MBB, completely chew the gummie bear in your mouth & then swallow before you accidentally swallow said gummie bear whole*
So love the look you created. And this is a beautiful palette! Now I wanna go & play in MAC Club- to go nowhere at all 🙂
Mari says
The Teal is so pretty! I thought I would need a black base but it was very pigmented
I was able to get this palette with gift card I won on your blog!
Thank you so much Karen!!!!!
