So. Much. Yes!
Rarely does a liner sweep me off my feet.
I think the last one was MAC Costa Riche. Or was it was BECCA Cabrera…? I’m pretty sure it was one of those two.
Whenever it happens, since it doesn’t happen very often, I almost immediately panic a little. One of my first thoughts is usually along the lines of, “How am I going to function when I wear this down to a nub, which I’ll most certainly do?” Or, how much am I going to freak-the-eff out when I can’t find one of my backups? Because let’s be real — if it’s that good, I’m probably getting a backup. Or two. OK, three.
Seriously, though, I think MAC’s new Technakohl Liner in Practice Makes Perfect is…well, perfect. They should have just called it Perfect and cut out any confusion. I think it’s just about perfect in every single way.
It’s a deep, rich, intensely pigmented bluish green pencil liner with a twist-up tip. Fab for lash lines, of course, but I love, love, LOVE it on my water lines (especially the lower water lines). I think it does wonders for browns eyes, in particular, and I swear mine look more milk chocolatey when I wear it.
It’s fairly no-fuss, too. Compared to some blue liners, where I feel like I have to apply four or five layers to ramp up the intensity to a decent level, I just use two layers of this and I’m good.
On top of that, it’s incredibly smooth and doesn’t migrate or make my sensitive eyes water. I usually reapply after about five hours to freshen it up, which isn’t bad, and even then I’m only adding a little.
Ooh! — the color goes really well with blue, green and khaki clothing (and accessories), and I bet it would also complement gold shadows and golden brown shadows nicely, too.
If you have brown eyes (or hazel eyes, or green eyes), you need Practice Makes Perfect in yo’ life!
There are four Technakohl Liners in the MAC Wash and Dry collection (more reviews here), with the others being marine blue Sudsy, lime Colour Matters and silvery Coin Operated. Sudsy is the only one I haven’t seen in person yet, but neither of the other two are lighting my fire. I’m kinda “meh” about ’em. The gray, I feel like I’ve seen before, and the bright green, while intriguing, also leans toward costume for me.
I dunno… Maybe we just need to spend more time together.
Look for Practice Makes Perfect and the other three Technakohl Liners in the MAC Wash and Dry collection when they arrive May 14 on the MAC website and a week later on May 21 at MAC counters and stores.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Where do you stand on the Technakohls in general? Are you a friend or a foe?
Erin says
Oh wow, both of those colors are super cool! I’ve actually never tried the Technakohls before, most of my liners come from the drugstore or in little Sephora sets. I really like both of these shades, though.

I happen to be a Technakohl foe… I have the basic black one (Graphblack I think?) and I just hate it. It doesn’t make a clean line on the lash line, and it’s not pigmented enough to be used on the water line (I can’t go back and forth multiple times on my waterlines, my eyes are too sensitive). Just my opinion of course, I know some people love it, but it does nothing for me 🙁
This Practice Makes Perfect shade looks gorgeous though, it seems so rich and the color is perfection. It would also look amazing on green eyes I think (blue makes the green in my eyes really pop, maybe even more than purple).

That one’s old school! They reworked the formula (I think) and replaced it with a new black shade that’s better, SuperFly!
Lulle says
Oooh that’s good to know. The formula really needed to be revamped so I’m glad MAC did it.

My first thought when I saw the blue, “YES,” photo was, “THE PEN IS BLUUUUUE!” Ya know, from Liar Liar? Ha. I’ve never tried these liners before. I always have a hard time with liners like these, they tend to ‘skip’ across my lids or won’t take in certain spots. I have weird skin I guess. The color looks beautiful on you, love it in the water line!
Karen says
Hi Jenny,
Try quickly warming up the tip with a hair dryer set on low. This warms up the product, which in turn helps stop the skipping issue! I like to always test the pencil on the back of my hand first, though, to make sure that it isn’t too hot. 🙂
Jenny says
Well, that is sheer genius. I’m gonna give it a go!
Karen says
Let me know how it works out! I use this all the time with stiff pencils. Also works great with lip liner too!
Lorraine says
wow that liner really makes your eye color pop! love the color. I am not a MAC person. Or a liner in the plastic casing person. Will probably pass, but the color sure is gorgeous. I love how you paired it with the turquoise tones of your necklace and an understated lip. this is fabulous look!
LindaLibraLoca says
I am a fan. The lilac one I own is used a lot.

I only have two technakohls : photgravure which is my go to liner! It’s the perfect black-brown! And Counterfeit. I love them both and I’d really like to try some others but I’m not really fan of the LE colors from this collection…

Graph Black Technakhol liner is one of my favorites! I love it on the waterline , lasts all day. I have too many blue liners currently but i’m going to check out Practice Makes Perfect. It looks great on you!

Karen, you’ve gotta stop making me want stuff from this collection! I barely even like it LOL. I knew Colour Matters was coming home with me because just look at that color! But now I’m considering Practice Makes Perfect. Auto de Blu is one of the first eyeliners I’ve ever finished and this is similar so I just might need it. Smh. I hope I don’t end up with a ton of stuff from this collection lol

Have you had a chance to try Lancome Crayon Khol in Black Lapis? In your pictures it looks like the two could be near perfects dupes of one another!

Just wrote down the name and will go to try this one next time in MAC. I was always looking for a deep blue liner but could find/decide which one to get. I am pretty picky about liners. Thanks for the info, Karen!
