Between the hypnotic packaging sparkling like a shimmery pair of black snakeskin and patent leather heels, the glittery catchlights and the sheer, high-shine finish of its four powder shadows, Givenchy’s Le Prisme Eye Quad Color & Shine for Metallic Eyes in Acoustic Harmony #80 ($58) is like a makeup oasis glistening in a desert flush with fall smokey eyes.
Outside of the packaging
No. 80 is the new quad in Givenchy’s Acoustic Colors collection for autumn/winter 2012, and man! — it’s sparkly.
So sparkly that it even gave my inner drag queen reason to pause…
KAREN’S INNER DRAG QUEEN: “Baby, I dunno if we can do this.”
KAREN: “Yeah, that is a lot of glitter, but check out how sheer the shadows are. They’re really only lightly tinted but have a shiny finish and gobs of glitter.
“I bet if we apply one all over our lids with a flat eyeshadow brush like the MAC 239, it would look really cool. We’d get a wash of sheer pigment, a shiny finish and sparkle from the glitter on top.
“Trust me — we can make it look classy.”
KAREN’S INNER DRAG QUEEN: “Classy with a ‘c’ or klassy with a ‘k’?”
KAREN: “Dude, classy with a ‘c’! It’ll look like twinkling lights, and because the flecks of glitter are pretty big, I bet we’ll be able to see ’em from a few feet away.
“We’ll just have to make sure we don’t go overboard with the rest of our eye look, which we can do by keeping the liner simple and skipping the false lashes.”
KAREN’S INNER DRAG QUEEN: “B*tch, you know the last time I toned anything down was never. Does not compute!”
KAREN: “Okay, well, to turn it up instead, we can press the shadow directly on our lids. That should intensify the pigment even more, KAPOW! We’ll have to start with a layer of primer to get more of that glitter to latch on to our skin… Hey, I thought you were nervous about wearing so much glitter?”
KAREN’S INNER DRAG QUEEN: “Last time I checked I was the one who held the diva card in this relationship, which means I can change my mind whenever I want. 🙂
[Snaps three times in a Z.]
“Now go about your business so I can practice lip-synching It’s Raining Men.”
As I was saying, this is one of those products where you really have to love glitter.
Good thing I do (I go through phases) because the stuff gets everywhere!

It’s not that the powders have a lot of fallout or anything. More that the flecks of glitter are fairly large, and there’s just so much of it that even when I’m careful to tap the excess off my brush before I apply and then clean up the glitter on my face with a makeup wipe, a few wayward flecks still find their way to my cheeks, nose and chin, and sometimes even my brows.
It helps when I do my eye makeup first, clean up any stray glitter with a makeup wipe (I like MAC Wipes and Kirkland Daily Facial Cleansing Towelettes), and then do my foundation, brows, etc., afterward.
Additional makeup worn in this look…
- Tom Ford Beauty Brow Sculptor in Espresso: Brows
- MAC Concrete Eyeshadow: Brows
- Becca Brow Shaping Gel: Brows
- Becca Eye Tint in Romanticism: Lids (as a base)
- MAC Haute & Naughty Too Black Lash: Lashes
- L’Oréal Paris Infallible Never Fail Lacquer Liner 24H in Blackest Black: Upper lash line
- Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion: Upper and lower water line
- NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in St. Moritz and Cuba: Face
- MAC Studio Careblend/Pressed Powder in Medium Dark: Forehead, nose and chin
- MAC Select Moisturecover in NW25: Under eyes
- MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Give Me Sun: Back of my cheeks
- MAC Blushbaby Blush: Apples of my cheeks
- NARS Sin Blush: Apples of my cheeks

Basically, brace yourself for some stray glitter. If you’re gonna do the glitter dance with this quad, you just gotta go with the flow.
Le Prisme Eye Quad Color & Shine for Metallic Eyes in Acoustic Harmony #80 isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re not averse to the idea, it could be a fun way to inject drama into your eye makeup routine.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Bourne soir, mademoiselle. 🙂 Just got back from seeing the new Bourne movie, and my first reaction? There could have been more shirtless-ness.
Pretty good, though. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would after reading some of the reviews, and more than the second Bourne movie with Matt. I wasn’t a big fan of the shaky handheld camera thing, which was also used in this one, ugh!
I think Jeremy was a little underutilized, too. He could have been even more of an @ss-kicker, and I was hoping for a scene where he’d cut Rachel Weisz’s hair and then do her makeup.
(But hearing Jeremy speak Tagalog at the end was worth the price of admission.)

The palette has such lovely, wearable colors. Only, glitter and i don’t get along well :). I have a cpl. of Bobbi Brown shadows from one of her holiday collections and it’s so tough to deal with the fallout!
We are planning to see The Bourne Legacy soon. Glad you enjoyed it!
It’s weekend, hoorrrrrrrrray! *hugs*
Karen says
Hi Musical!
What do you use to apply your glitter shadows? Have you tried pushing them onto the lids with a finger? It totally works…
Have fun watching Bourne…Jeremy Renner is so good!
musical says
May be patting it on with a finger would help indeed! Going to try it soon!
Happy Caturday :-D.
Gloria says
Whoa Jeremy speaks Tagalog in the movie? Even for a bit, that’s quite impressive.
And can we get more appearances by Karen Inner Drag Queen? She’s feisty!
Karen says
I’ll ask her to stop by more often, hahaha!
Heidi says
I usually keep the heavy duty glitter for my nails, but sometimes MY Inner Drag Queen encourages me to branch out, too! These colors really are stunning.
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
Ahhh glitter fallout, I knew that was going to happen with this quad. I think it is an otherwise cool quad, but I’ve got too old to deal with glitter LOL
Rachel says
Ooh… I wonder when there will be another mega glitter eyeshadow quad with magically little to no fall out like stila jewel shadow quad. I really do love the way glitter shadows look on though.
Laura H says
I loved your convo with your inner drag queen ! So funny !
Stef Smith says
“B*itch, you know the last time I toned anything down was never!” OMG, I can’t stop laughing! I think all women have an inner drag queen, which is always a good thing! These colors are beautiful!
Nina says
Ah glitter city! The look you did is gorgeos though – so subtle. Im torn!
Lulle says
Yeah…. no. I’m not too impressed by the way it looks on lids. I’m not a big fan of glittery shadows, I think.
I prefer to keep glitter for lips or even in eyeliners!
Julie says
The quad looks very tempting.. I love the colours and with glitter, fallout is usually to be expected. I always apply my eye make-up first anyway so I can easily clean it up.
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
I really like how that lighter shade from the quad looks over the Eye Tint–its amazing! The the microshimmer is silvery, so it blends in with the lightness of the pigment and translates to more of a sheen on the eye. The darker shades, however, will probably be a different story…and the fallout? Not sure I can deal with that :/

KAren, I don’t know what do you do lately, but you are just stunning and glowing!!!! Give us for secret ;-)))
Lisa S. says
I love the glitter and will find a way to make it work. Sometimes I use Bare Escentuals Well Rested as an eye base and since it’s an opaque powder, everything seems to stick well to it. Have you ever tried that Karen? Thanks for doing the look because I’m dying to get them when they come out. I wonder if Sephora will get them first ……. Just love your blog !!
Thanks.
Gossip girl says
I love the glitter, love the colour!
Ps your inner drag queen is hilarious
Teri says
The glitter may look really heavy in the pan but it looks so subtle on you. Love it!
Kim says
I’m glad you liked it! I agree with all your comments. I felt like the pacing could have been improved and was saying that I would have told the story differently (which gave everyone a reason to laughingly wonder why Tony Gilroy didn’t call me first). 🙂 It’s hard to go wrong with Jeremy Renner, Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz, though. And did you see the Skyfall trailer? I’m very excited for that!
