Are you the kind of girl who delights in wearing a different fragrance every day of the week? Clean, a fragrance line known for their light scents and simple aesthetic, sure hopes so. Their new Coffret Set ($65) includes four of their signature scents in 1-oz bottles of eau de parfum.
Almost lighter than air, they make me float away on a fragrance cloud, and I feel like I can wear them anywhere, whether I’m just lounging around the house, going out to dinner with El Hub or attending a function for work.
Despite their lightness of being, each one lasts a good long time on my skin (about six hours). Even though they share similar citrus and floral notes and have the same just-out-of-the-shower vibe, they’re different enough to be distinct.
Speaking of variety, Clean Coffret oozes with possibilities. I like to layer them (although they also wear well by themselves), and my current crush involves starting with a layer of Warm Cotton, then adding layer of Shower Fresh topped with Simply Soap.
By itself, Shower Fresh reminds me of a pristine tropical waterfall; Clean is like crisp grapefruit, and Warm Cotton brings to mind fresh laundry, set outside to dry in the sun.
Sadly, Simply Soap and I don’t really get along. It starts with a lovely burst of violet and musk but takes on a slightly metallic scent after spending some time on my skin.
The Clean Coffret Set
- Shower Fresh: The most complex of the set, crisp, with notes of lemon, orange blossom, lily of the valley and jasmine
- Simply Soap: Newest of the Cleans, with bergamot, violet, musk, plumeria and Damask rose
- Clean: Bubbly and youthful yet sophisticated, with litsea cubeba (an evergreen shrub native to China), orange, lime, grapefruit, passion lily, rose geranium and white musk
- Warm Cotton: Its citrus, lilac, jasmine, amber and musk remind me of crisp sheets hanging outside on a hot summer’s day
Bargain hunters, if you’ve ever smelled one of Clean’s perfumes and thought to yourself, “I like this,” but didn’t pull the trigger because of the price, consider the Coffret Set.
A 1-oz bottle of Clean perfume at full price costs $38. Purchased individually, the four bottles here would run a whopping $152. In the set, they break down to $16.25 — about 60% off the regular price.
I’m thinking about breaking up the set and giving away the individual scents for Christmas. Hmm… That’s another way to stretch their value. Keep one scent for yourself, and give the other three as stocking stuffers. 🙂 Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

I have a hard time with the Clean Simply Soap. Something about it mixes with my body chemistry and makes it smell like a wet, albeit clean, dog! No good 🙁
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
Interesting. I wonder if that’s the same metallic note I’m getting too…
LOL, at least it’s the scent of clean dog!

i snagged a old version of this coffret for $30 at winner’s (kind of like a canadian tj maxx) and while i didn’t care for warm cotton (too bounce-sheet like for me – i just spray this stuff on stinky dance gear like febreze), i loved ultimate, shower fresh and original. it’s a shame they took out the ultimate though, that and shower fresh were my favorites!
i haven’t tried simply soap, it hasn’t popped up in my neck of the woods yet.
i do like these when i want to smell good, like i used some nice shampoo.
karen, if you like these soapy scents, try prada homme (clean, expensive soap) and chloe eau de parfum (clean, expensive rose soap)!

Thanks for the recs, Ines. I will give both of those a sniff. 🙂

I second the new Chloe EDP as a clean soap scent–clean rose soap is exactly what it smells like. Expensive, beautiful, clean, rose soap. yumm. 🙂

Oh wow, I wasn’t even aware there were that many! LOL. I know I’ve sniffed one or two in the past and wasn’t too impressed but the notes of Shower Fresh and Original look like they’re right up my alley! Will have to investigate further hehe.

Hi Catherine,
Yeah, they make a few different ones. They all have that “fresh out of the shower” vibe.

Has anyone else discovered the hot-dryer scent of Demeter’s “Laundromat”? I first tried it on at a WEIRD art exhibit in NYC about six or seven years ago- it was cool, they had a display of the stranger Demeter scents, like Grass and Funeral Home (bizzare!) but LAUNDROMAT stole my nose’s heart and it took me almost two years to find it at any store… of course, it was Sephora!
Seriously, if I could marry a store, Sephora? Will you be my sparkly lover?
Karen says
Hi Molly,
Yup, I remember that one! That line makes some interesting scents. Gingerale is my favorite. 🙂

Whoa! 🙂 These speak straight to my soul. I am in LOVE with fresh, clean scents. You have absolutely no idea! I’m going to get these ASAP! I wish I could smell them through the monitor so I can know for certain that these are as perfect as I think they are. I’m excited to get down to the mall & find out just how fabulous they really are. Thank you for bringing these fragrances to our attention. Fresh laundry, right out of the dryer, are my ultimate weakness, so being able to spritz that scent all over myself makes me feel all warm & fuzzy inside! *Hehe..*
Oh & also, thanks for the suggestion of giving three as gifts & one for youself 🙂 Great idea!
Karen says
LOL! I wish there was a way to smell fragrances through the computer. That would seriously enable my perfume habit. 🙂

Hmm.. I do believe I meant “Fresh laundry, right out of the dryer, IS my ultimate weakness..” Not “are”.. Haha, I hate grammatical errors.

I received a sample vial of this a few weeks ago and haven’t tried it yet. I love the look of the packaging of the blue bottles!

Ooo! I snatched up last year’s Clean set and absolutely loved it. The only scent that I didn’t like was the Warm Cotton. I wasn’t too fond of it on myself but I do like to spritz it around my room. I love Clean, they’re sort of a no brainer perfume in my beauty arsenal.
Karen says
I can see how Warm Cotton could be a turn off… it is a little Febreezy, LOL!

I use to by perfumes mini sets from duty free shops all the time. I have the Prada and CK mini set, and I bought them because I don’t like to carry the big perfume bottle (I have only 100ml bottles) with me in my bag all the time. So this mini fragrances are so practical and elegant :). They are also great to take them with you in a short trip 🙂

So true! I love duty free shopping… sometimes you can find LE scents and gift sets that aren’t available at regular counters.

Although I do like the scent of original Clean, it can feel heavy on me at times (bothers my nose!). So I’d definitely like to check this out and see how the other iterations of Clean stack up against the original.
