Every girl remembers her first…Chanel eyeshadow quad. 🙂
Mine was Garden Party. Ah, Garden Party… Just saying the name brings back memories (and a warm, fuzzy feeling) of the first time I laid eyes on that mix of green, peach and pink.
I still love that quad so much that it’s the first thing I thought of when I saw promo pics of the new Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow quad in Regard Perle ($56). I was kindasorta hoping Perle would look more like it in person.
It’s not a Garden Party dupe, but I think it’s very pretty in its own right, particularly if you have a thing for glowy skin.
Each of its four soft powder shadows shine with a mirror-like finish that lights up eyelids when when they’re applied. Chanel channeled pearls this season — or rather the way skin glows when you’re wearing pearls — and here they got it spot on. The chai latte I had last night right before dinner screwed with my sleep, and it was evident all over my face this morning. But a few swipes of Regard Perle today, and my eyes looked visibly brighter and more awake.
Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow in in Regard Perle
Ladies who kneel at the altar of the glitter gods may want to take a look at the shimmery grayish green and peach shades on the quad’s left. Both of them burst with the cutest flecks of silver micro glitter. Be prepared, though, to deal with serious fallout from both of them. They’re kinda powdery and don’t adhere to my skin as well as the other two colors in the quad, so that might be something to keep in mind.
The light beige and salmon pink on the right are the more pigmented of the four. Speaking of that, the beige in the lower right really surprised me. When the light hits it just right, I see subtle flashes of gold and green. The shimmery salmon pink in the upper right may not have the same wow factor as the beige, but I think it’s still a nice complement to the other three shadows.

I like how these colors light up my eyes, but I’d like the quad even more without so much fallout from the glitter.

Kitties can make a difference
Tabs may be a spotlight hog, but today he couldn’t wait to share it with two very special kitties named Chloe (on the left) and Colby (on the right).
They live with reader AmyVA, who you may know from the comments on the blog. Amy won the last Sundays with Tabs caption contest for her caption, “Sometimes, I like to practice my ninja moves on the deck, so the wild turkeys can witness my prowess.”
Being the cool cats that they are, Chloe and Colby convinced Amy to donate her prize money to the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, which is the same no-kill rescue shelter where Amy found them years ago. 🙂
Tabs and I think that’s very cool and want to send mad props to Amy, Chloe and Colby for their generosity. Way to go, guys!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Love that white gold color. Do you know of any dupes for it? Also, yay for Amy for donating her money to a good cause 🙂
Karen says
Hm, I can’t think of any off the top of my head, but let me look around…
Beauty Maven says
MAC’s Nylon is a great goldish vanilla– I adore it, you should check it out!
Radhika says
Chloe and Colby and Amy – you three are awesome 🙂 🙂
I got the Birds of Paradise quad – my first Chanel eyeshadow. I really don’t like the glitter fall out. I prefer the singles – also because I am very new to makeup and eyeshadow = pat one colour over entire eyelid 😀
Karen says
Hi Radhika,
I love the shadow singles too. Do you have Lily or Nomade? I like either for a quick wash of color over the lid.
Radhika says
I have Khaki.
AmyVA says
Awww, thanks Karen! We <3 you too!
(And for the record, yes, that picture involved a kitty treat dangling in the background!)
Karen says
LOL, I hope they enjoyed their treat the modeling session. 😀
Give the kitties hugs for me!
Grace says
Hi Karen! I’ve been reading your blog for a little while and just got enough courage to comment …I also think Amy (plus Chloe and Colby) are awesome for donating their prize money! I also think you are awesome for your love of cruelty-free products 🙂
Karen says
Hi Grace,
Thanks for popping by and saying hi. It’s nice to meet you! 😀
So, do you have any pets?
Tracy says
This quad looks so pretty! This may be hard to believe, but I don’t own a Chanel Quad! Yet! 🙂
Karen says
Well when the right one comes along I’ll have to do a celebratory dance with you! 🙂
amy says
Pretty palettes, but I like the Regarde Perle quad better.
Karen says
It’s a good quad!
snoopysteph says
Pretty colors, but I’m still waiting for the perfect Chanel quad to come along so I can finally own one. 🙂 For the price, I want to be able to wear it every single day & have no issues with fallout.
Karen says
Hi Steph,
Do you have any of the shadow singles? They’re pretty awesome — so smooth, soft and buttery! They blend like a dream.
snoopysteph says
I don’t, actually. Any shades you’d recommend?
Karen says
I love Safari, Nomad and Khaki! I have a few swatches in these posts:

My first thoughts was that the new quad reminded me of Garden Party. I’m glad it’s not a dupe!
Karen says
Garden Party is an awesome quad!
gio says
That’s a pretty palette but they’re not colors I wear often so, considering the price and the fallout, I think I’ll pass. Thanks for the review.
Karen says
You’re welcome, Gio. Happy holidays!
Alison says
That’s a lovely quad, really pretty colours. I will be passing on the quad though in favour of the Les Perles eyshadow palette.
I remember my first quad too, it was called Influences and was really pretty neutrals I loved it but it has long since been discontinued 🙁
Karen says
Hi Alison,
I’m looking forward to that one too. I asked the lovely ladies at the Chanel counter to call me the second all their spring stuff came in. 🙂
I remember Influences. It had good colors!

Hi Karen,
Wow! You look great in those pictures. Did you also apply some shadow underneath your eyes?
Your foundation looks flawless. What are you wearing in those photos? I am currently using Skin Food bb cream Peach Pore Sake (as in the japanese liquor Sake). It has only been 3 days, so can’t realy say anything yet. But it does make my skin look flawless and pores smaller.
Have you tried any bb cream yet? What do you think about them?

Hi Arum,
Hmm, I’m not sure what you mean by BB Cream. Is that the Bobbi Brown Cream Compact foundation? If it, unfortunately I haven’t tried it yet.
arumanis says
Hi Karen,
Sorry, my bad. i meant Blemish Balm.

Hi Karen,
Wow…you look flawless in those picts. Did you also apply eyeshadow underneath your eyes too? Which one was it?
Those Chanel quads colors are so pretty, but I think gonna have to pass because of the price.
What foundation did you wear for the picts? it looks awesome.
Arum
Karen says
Hi Arumanis,
Yes, I did apply shadow beneath the lower lash line. That’s the glittery green shade with the glitter peach shade layered on top.
As for the foundation, that’s Chanel Mat Lumiere! Here’s the review:

Happy Tuesday!

The dark green looks amazing!
Karen says
The fallout’s a little annoying but it’s a very dynamic color!
Kim says
Oh, Chanel, you foul temptress. Thank goodness I am saved by my dislike of fallout (in green).
That is awesome of Amy! The picture of Chloe and Colby made me smile. They look *seriously* alarmed! 🙂
Karen says
I think the peachy glitter shade would totally be your style. Take a look at it next time you’re at Chanel! 😀
And LOL, apparently the Chloe and Colby were being bribed with treats at the time? Gotta love cat photography.
Kim says
I will definitely check it out!
Ah, yes, the secrets of successful kitty photography. Except for Tabs, of course. But he’s a generational talent, so it’s not fair to compare. 🙂
Karen says
This is true! It’s not everyday a slightly chubby tabby superstar comes along! LOL
Nina says
congrats Amy! 🙂
i <3 that quad : so spring/summery !!!
Karen says
Isn’t it fun seeing other people’s kitties?
Maybe one day we’ll do a cat/pet round up!
As for the quad, you should play with it the next time you stop by Chanel. I think you’ll like the glittery peach. It’s fun!
Nina says
we should totally do that pet round up! 🙂 so much fun! 🙂
i am totally liking that quad!!!
Karen says
I think it would be a lot of fun too. Let me brainstorm a few ideas…
But tell the kitties and the pup to get ready! They’ll have to bring their modeling A game, LOL!
Kajal Couture says
Yay for Amy! And Chloe and Colby!
The colors in this quad are right up my alley, but the price tag is what is preventing my from having my first Chanel quad.
Karen says
Oh, wouldn’t it be awesome if Chanel had a F&F sale?
Ru says
Looks gorgeous, but for that much- there shouldn’t be any fallout.
Karen says
Hi Ru,
I think it’s the glitter in those two shades is the reason why there’s a lot of it in this quad. Usually it’s not a problem for me with Chanel.
Ruchita says
The eyeshadows are very pretty! I have never bought a Chanel quad, but maybe I will have to ask Santa for one for Christmas.
Yay for pictures of kitties – Chole and Colby are adorable! Amy – that is sweet of you to donate to the shelter. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Ruchita,
Have you seen the Sparkling Satins quad? I dunno if pink/blue/gray is your thing, but it’s one of my faves:

Your picture of Garden Party and Regard Perlé is a good illustration of why it’s not always possible to duplicate a look with another set of colors. Although Garden Party and Regard Perlé look similar in the pan, the finished look they achieve is quite different. I love Garden Party, but it definitely doesn’t have that rich, pearl lustre that is so evident in Regard Perlé.
In the beauty biz, change is the name of the game. Formulations, textures, and pigments are constantly evolving. Creativity abounds. Innovation is limited only by one’s imagination. Why would anyone want to limit themselves to something that has become passé? To answer the question, “Hasn’t Regard Perlé been done before?” Yes, we’ve seen this basic color scheme before. No, we haven’t seen these colors with their subtle differences in hue and with this degree of glow and blendability. And so, although I have Garden Party, I bought Regard Perlé because it has a more modern twist.
Re: Fallout. I pat rather than swipe. I also use Kanebo Sensai eye base which is very smooth and moisturizing. I haven’t experienced any problem with fallout even with Tentation Cuivreé’s baked formula.
Frances says
I was really looking forward to this palette, but I am not a fan of glitter or fall out, so I may not indulge in this one. 🙁

LOVE! My first Chanel Quad was Lumieres Polychrome. LOVED it! Keep hoping they’ll bring it back (oh, and Vamp mascara, please and thanks!) 🙂

Love all Chanel Products…..The eye shadows are so easy to blend
Karen B says
Looks very very pretty. Garden Party was my first Chanel quad too 🙂 All your fault by the way 😉
Mariah says
Ahaha! I was going to say, it looked like Garden Party! It’s my only Chanel quad! 😀
Natalia says
Garden Party was my first Chanel quad too! And now I’m a huge fan. I love rather permanent collection than limited editions. Limited eyeshadow quads usually tend to warm tones which is doesn’t work for me. More than that, my basic colors are green and violet rather then beige. But spring collection made my heart beat faster! Chanel did it when I lost the hope to get impressed:)
