After making it through my trip to the dentist yesterday without shedding a tear, I decided to reward myself with a quick trip to Sephora. It was all I could do to erase the memory of those silver hooks coming at me in that awful chair (have I ever mentioned that I think my childhood dentist was a sadist?)!
As I was tooling around the store, I bumped into the new Too Faced Romantic Eye Classic Beauty Shadow Collection kit.
“Oh, hai!”
For 35 smackaroos ($35), you get nine cool-toned powder shadows in a range of shimmer and matte finishes, divided into three rows of suggested “looks” — Day, Classic and Fashion.
Swatches of the Day look colors from the left: Soulmates, I Do and Un-Veil; for reference, I’m an NC35
Swatches of the Classic look colors from the left: Kiss the Bride, Cut the Cake and First Dance
Swatches of the Fashion look colors from the left: Bouquet Toss, Honeymoon and Ever After
Swatches with the flash
Swatches without the flash
These shadows are a tactile experience, for sure (but one vastly more pleasurable than a trip to the dentist). They feel like eye kisses, or soft velvet on the skin, 🙂 and while I like how shiny the shimmer and pearl shadows are, I don’t expect to be able to wear the pale mattes. Judging from the swatches, they look a little chalky on my skin; I’m guessing they’ll look far better on lighter lovelies.
PRICE: $35
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Sephora and Ulta stores, and also online

Honeymoon and Ever After look gorgeous, but I am afraid that the other colors are too cool toned for me. 🙁 However, I do own the Natural Eye Palette and I love it!
Karen says
I have that one and like it too. Too Faced eyeshadows tend to be hit or miss for me…
AnieJ says
I’m super pale, and I WANT WANT WANT this palette (along with some other Too Faced products)! Can’t wait to grab one at Sephora, might make a run tomorrow for it.
Karen says
Awesome, Anie. I hope it works for you!
candace grubbs says
oh ive been wanting to get this one!
Karen says
Do you plan on picking it up now that you’ve seen swatches, Candace?
Chelsie says
I already have the Naked Eye and Natural Eye Palettes, so this is a no for me. I can’t wear matte shades well, and even though I’m an NC25, I think the paler shades would wash me out. They are gorgeous shadows, though!
Karen says
Hi Chelsie,
Mattes can be tough, especially when it comes to blending. I do love me a good matte in the crease though… they work great at creating depth.
Megan B says
I was on the fence about this and havent bought a two faced palette for some time but I now have to have this one. They are colors I could see myself wearing all the time (I am a NC15) and it would be good to have them in one palette versus digging through my makeup drawer every morning to find everyday colors. Thanks for posting the swatches!
Karen says
You’re welcome, Megan!
Wendy says
I swatched this in Sephora and it just wouldn’t show up on me 🙁 (I’m NC20), but maybe I needed a base? I was just testing a few colors fast. It looks so pretty!
Karen says
Hmm, or maybe the tester was off?
Wendy says
Hmmm, it did look a little off. That’s nothing new in Sephora though haha
Karen says
LOL… yeah, I hear ya. Sometimes going there makes me really grumpy.
stacie says
Looks perfect for me! I’m approximately as pale as chalk xoxox
Karen says
Are you going to pick this up, Stacie? I hope so!
Megan says
Karen,
Have you tried the Too Faced Smoky Eye kit? I am thinking that the blue and green shadows included for “fashion” smoke would look amazing with your bright skin tone. I have it–and I like it–but as a pale girl (NW15) I really have to be in a play-up-the-eyes mood to carry it off. I bet you’d be able to carry it off as an everyday look.
Karen says
Hi Megan,
One of these days I’ll have to pick it up… I’ve had it on my makeup lust list for a while now. 🙂
I bet the Smoky colors look really dramatic against your skin. What brushes do you usually use to apply the shadows? If you used a big, fluffy blending brush you could probably do a light wash of color on your lids…
dani@callitbeauty says
first dance, honeymoon & ever after are all pushing the right buttons for me. sooo pretty!
Karen says
Those shades are pretty. I like ’em too!
beeks says
This looks awesome, but I wouldn’t pay $35 for it. I found the natural eye palette at Winners for $7.99 not too long ago, hopefully this one will turn up there in a few months time. Otherwise, it’s a no-go for me, even though it’s gorgeous.
Trisha says
Yeah, those look pretty chalky. I’m kind of disappointed, although I like how smooth they are.
Karen says
If only the mattes were smoother, sigh!
kana says
Chalky is bad for my eyes. since i have crease-less eyelids(asian parents-_-) my eyelids just look droopy and saggy wth a lot of the lighter mattes(dark ones too). .. oh *sigh* its really pretty though!
Karen says
Hi Kana,
Hmm, if you like shimmers on your lids one thing you could try is patting a matte color on your brow bone to add some contrast. I do that all the time… it’s kinda nice to have the play on finishes.
Alexis says
Wow, the palette name is a mouthful! 🙂 I’m really liking the look of those shadows, especially rows 1 and 3. I’ll have to check this out the next time I’m in a Sephora. I think they would work on my super paleness :).
Karen says
I know, right? Try saying it fast five times, LOL!
gio says
The colors are pretty! I’m very pale so I think they could work on me. And the packaging is gorgeous too!
Karen says
Too Faced does do well in the packaging department.
Have a good day, Gio!
Heidi says
I have been eying and wanting this for a while. I’m nw15 and it looks great everytime I swatch it. I want!
Karen says
These colors would be perfect for you, then. 🙂
Nina says
it looks pretty. ive had great experiences w/ the glamour to go sets. i might check this out in person … 🙂
Karen says
Some of them are really cute. Too Faced does a good job with their packaging, dontcha think?
Nina says
uh huh … they do 🙂
my fave so far was the pixies of holiday 2010 🙂
Karen says
That was a cute release. They did a lot of fun palettes for that one, for sure!
What are you up to now? Lucky you to have a snow day!
Nina says
i went to the grocery store and then got home and scooped litter boxes.
now im just mucking about online.
its cold here today! colder than yesterday!
i have all of the glamour to go palettes. theyre so handy for when i need to bring makeup to work or a night out. 🙂
Karen says
Sounds like, um, fun?
Kinda random but one of these days you have to get the kitties “The World’s Best Cat Litter.” It really is great!
So true re: the Too Faced Glamour palettes. If you’ve gotta get out the door in five minutes they’ve got your back!
Nina says
LOL @ fun … 😛
we mix the world’s best w/ clumping. its the combination that works best for our furfamily. 🙂
i love the eyeshadows in the glamour to go palettes – theyre amazingly pigmented and so buttery soft!

What an auspicious review – I was just checking this out while hovering over sephora preparing to order Noveau Monde – as someone who was once mocked with the nickname “Pasty McCrackerson” I can do light mattes. But I have orange hair and yeeelooow skin I have mixed feelings about cool tones – too much warm and I start to have the same basic coloring of a bowl of spaghetti o’s, but it takes care to not look too shadowy when I go for the cools. Bless you, Sephora return policy, for letting me take these risks.
The glitter in the background of that sephora shot makes me wish I had a drag queen alter ego. Sigh. 😛
Karen says
EVERYONE has an inner drag queen, babe! I think we can get her to come out and play. 😉
Liz! says
I’ve been eyeing this one, thanks for the swatches! I’m still on the fence about it though, I like half the colors, the other half are just kinda…….meh.
Karen says
You’re welcome, Liz. 🙂
Paintthetownscarlet.wordpress.com says
Honeymoon is gorgeous. The chalky texture is a bit stand-offish but I would be more than happy to give the set a trial run.
Karen says
Why not, right? You never know!
Lisa S. says
I have this and actually am wearing the “fashion” look today. I also have the “Naked palette” which I love. I had the Neutral palette, but ended up giving it to my daughter, the colors were too warm for me and made me look tired and feverish.
I’ve never been typed by MAC , but I’m pretty pale and all of these colors work well on me.
“I do” from this palette is a great neutral and just awesome paired with “Soulmates’ which weirdly seems to flash a hint of pink on me. I think with your little bit darker skin tone these color do look a bit “chalky”. But the actual texture of these (at least to me) is buttery
“In the Buff” which is in the “Natural” palette is an awesome blending color for me.
steph b says
This is on my to swatch list. The colors are so pretty and I think I’m pale enough that they’d show well on me. That said, it is the colors in the middle and right rows that interest me. The left row looks too white for my normal lid preference. I’ll have to see how they work and, if they don’t, if the two rows of smaller shadows seem worth it.
Emma says
I really like those colours! And, I love Too Faced for supporting the Leaping Bunny and being on the list from the Coalition for Consumer Cosmetics Information list!
Fefe says
No likey. I have the Natural Eye palette and absolutely love it. The lady in Ulta told me this would be coming out soon. She was so stoked but I just dont like it. Im super pale myself but I prefer darker tones I guess. Nice swatches Karen!
Karen says
Thanks, Fefe! 🙂
Arianne says
That “First Dance” shade sure is pretty! Anyone know a dupe? 🙂
Karen says
Hmm, maybe MAC Fig 1?
Ariel says
It seems like you’d need a very specific coloring to look good in these shadows…I am pale but the cool colors wouldn’t be flattering on me….I’ll pass on this one.
Karen says
I hear ya. I do love the packaging though… the shadows are also laid out so nicely!
blovetbeauty says
such a pretty palette!
Cynthia says
I like very much the colors and the combinations of them, they look veeery pigmented; the packaging is gorgeus as all the Too Faced products. Thanks for the swatches.
Kim says
I had the same reaction to the light swatches. It reminded me of when the kids break out the sidewalk chalk. I also think Un-veil, First Dance and Ever After would be a bit dark for me.
Good for you for treating yourself after the dentist! When I was 5ish, my first dentist was pulling out one of my lower incisors (for some reason that I don’t recall) and I was terrified and crying, especially since I’d never had a shot in the mouth, and he had to yank and yank to get the tooth out. He yelled at me and said “if you don’t stop crying, you’ll NEVER get out of here”. I was a mess and when my mother found out, she found a new dentist immediately. He was fabulous and my whole family (and now the Hubs and kids) has been with him ever since. Sadly, he retired last year, but his replacement is proving to be just as kind and skilled. I guess the moral of this long comment is “Moms, make sure you find the right dentist for your kids or they’ll dread going for their entire lives”.
Megan says
I want this!! Gorgeous, I love every single shade. I love Too Faced eyeshadow, especially their Natural Eye palette. In fact, their eyeshadow in Erotica (also in the Natural Eye palette) is one of my favorite eyeshadow shades of all time.
Cassie says
Just got a massive vanity case of Strictly Come Dancing makeup from Boots (UK) and I checked the ballroom themed shadow swatches against yours – very similar colours so will probably give Too Faced a miss.
Mourning the loss of that beeeeew-tiful packaging though. So pretty and whimsical! I’m sure my bank balance will thank me for it, but my aesthetics certainly won’t! How do they compare to the UD? I’ve the TF Liquif-eye shadow collection but prefer UB much more.
Rebecca says
I bought this last weekend and have been using it all week. I love it, especially the middle row with the purple shades. I am very pale with green eyes and can usually wear either cool or warm shades as long as they aren’t too dramatic.
OrlandoMakeup says
Nice kit. I’ll have to try it.
Jae says
After seeing this post, I had to get it-I’m a pasty, cool-toned girl with blue eyes. I LOVE this! Thank you for sharing this! (my husband doesn’t thank you, though!) 😉
Maritza says
they’re lovely colors however I don’t think it’s for me. I have a question for you: how do you like Too Face shadow insurance candlelight Vs. Urban Decay greed? I would love to know your opinion, Thanks Karen!
Daniela says
I have been searching for a cool-toned palette that includes some matte shadows for soooo long! thank you for posting this, I will go to Sephora asap to try to find this 🙂 Thank you for the review, lovely beauty lady!
Inga says
I’m really lusting after this palette, I’ve never tried a Too Faced palette before.
But I’m wondering, is Honeymoon similar to the gold shade in Nars Rajasthan?
Clover says
I have this palette and I LOVE it. I am very fair skinned and Kiss the Bride brings out my brown eyes so beautifully! I only have one problem, I am running out of Kiss the Bride and I can’t find it sold individually without the entire palette. Does anyone know where I can find a color incredibly similar to Kiss the Bride?
Alina says
I have this palette!! I got it in August and the colors are very nice and good quality, but the top row is my (I think it’s the day look), is my least favorite. For me, it is very dull on my eyes probably because i have near black eyes (it sucks!). I think those colors would look good on any eye color other than near black because it tends to make my eyes seems very dull and lifeless. I mostly only use the Classic row of the purples, and the 1st white for highlights. The green/gold is beautiful however it looks strange on me… Again, I think it has to do with my eye color and maybe skin tone. I tried the Fashion row on my friend mixed with my own colors/combo who has medium brown eyes and it looked AMAZING on her. It made her brown eyes pop! Too bad I don’t have a different eye color or i’d love this palette 🙁
