Karen: “Hmm… Since I’m on a roll, I’ll take Famous Crazy Cat Ladies for a thousand, Alex.”
Alex Trebek: “This pop star, crazy cat lady and ex-wife of Russell Brand has a perfume line with bottles shaped like cats… Karen?”
Karen: “Who is Katy Perry?”
Alex Trebek: “Correct! Well, you certainly know your cat ladies, Karen, and your Madonna lyrics and Ryan Gosling trivia. Two categories left — Projectile Sports, and the NARS Paramaribo Eyeshadow Duo.”
Karen: “I’ll take NARS Paramaribo for $200, Alex.”
Alex Trebek: “Paramaribo is named after the capital city in this tropical South American country… Oh, and there she goes.”
Karen: “What is Suriname, Alex? NARS Paramaribo for $400.”
Alex Trebek: “These five attributes distinguish NARS Paramaribo from your everyday, run-of-the-mill eyeshadow duo… Karen?”
Karen: “What are soft texture, high shine, punchy pigments, booyah blending, and color that resists creasing and fading? Let’s keep going with NARS Paramaribo for $600, Alex.”
Alex Trebek: “This duo from the NARS permanent collection is sometimes mistaken for Paramaribo due to its bronzy tones… Karen, first on the draw.”
Karen: “What is the NARS Star Sailor Duo?”
Alex Trebek: “Correct!”
Karen: “I’ll stick with NARS Paramaribo for $800, Alex…”

Alex Trebek: “These ladies might like how Paramaribo’s lighter shadow contains less yellow and more gold than Star Sailor and how Paramaribo’s darker shadow is slightly less intense… Karen, once again.”
Karen: “Who are women who wear warm golden bronzes well, lighter lasses and/or fans of Star Sailor who can’t get enough eyeshadows in shimmery golden bronze? Let’s finish NARS Paramaribo for a thousand, Alex.”
Alex Trebek: “This beauty blog, which prominently features a husky tabby mascot, deemed NARS Paramaribo worthy of an A+ rating… Karen?”
Karen: “What is Makeup and Beauty Blog?”
Alex Trebek: “Correct! And that’s it for NARS Paramaribo. Next category, Projectile Sports.”
Karen: “Yeesh. I’m in trouble now…” 🙂

KAREN. You crack me up!!! I would love to hear you say “booyah blending” on Jeopardy! Jus’ sayin’.
Also, I know I’m a bit late in noticing, but I love your new hair! The color is awesome.
Christine says
Ahaha Karen, I love how you always mix up your post styles :-). Lusting after far too many of these Nars spring pieces… My face is happy but my bank account is not!
Michaela says
You are so freaking cute. Love your earrings!
Heather says
I dunno about those eyeshadows – but the earrings? Adorable!
Rae // theNotice says
Oh, my, they are quite similar! Worth having both, you think? (Er, not that I own either – warm yellowy bronzes don’t tend to look quite right on my skintone. I’m just curious! :P)
If only there was a makeup Jeopardy in real life… *sighs wistfully* 😉
Joyce says
I thought Paramaribo was gorgeous when you posted pictures of it in a previous post, but now that you swatched Star Sailor next to it, I’m loving Star Sailor more!
Dovey says
Haha, I loved the Jeopardy!!! I’m glad you compared it to Star Sailor—I was curious about that. These are colors I normally don’t wear, but I kind of like the old dusky metal quality of these colors 🙂
Anna says
I’m on a Jeopardy tip this week so I really liked your post 🙂
gio says
You are so funny! Love the earrings, they’re so cute!

Oh my Jeopardy! Such a fun post, I had to finish reading it first before scrolling back up to look at the photos. Looking very edgy, Karen. 😀
Sara says
Karen, you look so fantastic. I like your post.
AnieJ says
Playing Jeopardy is how you fund your life, isn’t it? Because if not, you’ve just won a nice retirement egg there!
This was just the pick-me-up I needed before work today; thanks, Karen and Tabs (he’s worth it even in reference).
Nina says
this is another awesomesauce with gravy on top post! i am a big jeopardy nerd and this post warmed my heart LOL!
this is gorgeous … i think i know what my GC is going towards!
Karen says
Okay, is it just me, or are the questions on Jeopardy getting easier? Because I know I’m not getting smarter, LOL!
Yay! I’m glad you’ll finally be able to use the rest of your GC!
Nina says
i cant wait til tomorrow to spend it all! 😀 ill also pick up Lhasa!
i think theyre getting repetitive, and as a result easier. im not getting smarter either but seem to remember more answers LOL.
Sunny says
You’re hilarious! I was (still am) definitely drooling over this duo! I think it’s just less metallic than Star Sailor, and they’re definitely something I can pull off pretty well. Up on my wish list it goes! Maybe I can persuade my boyfriend that people do receive presents for the Chinese New Year *evil laugh*
Karen says
Hi Sunny,
On my lids I noticed it looks even more metallic… foiled, almost, when I combine the two. It’s cool!
Is there a big Chinese community in your town?
Sunny says
Arrgh I still wouldn’t know what to choose! I have no access to NARS counters here in Belgium, so I’ll have to do more research to make up my mind, and then ask for a friend to purchase it for me in the US or the UK.
Nope, the Chinese community isn’t that big in Belgium! There is one street with Chinese supermarkets/restaurant in Brussels, and they call it their Chinatown lol. I always cook a meal and invite some friends for the Chinese New Year though, just because it’s fun!
Gaily says
Thanks Karen for the review. I own Star Sailor too and always thought if I could onky get the ligh shade to be more wearable. The scene stealer (besides your earrings) was Gaity blush. It looks so feminine and romantic. Was it easy to achieve that color? Sometimes it takes a lot of primer and layering when I wear a soft pink blush.
Karen says
Hi Gaily,
It was super easy to get that color. I buffed in two layers to get that nice, subtle flush. I’ll have a full review of it up soon, but in a nutshell it’s a great blush. 🙂
PinkGlitter says
Haha, I seriously love your blog! “booyah blending” 🙂
Those two palettes do look very similar at first glance. Both are too warm for my skintone so I will be passing but I really enjoyed your jeopardy tale!
Chris25 says
This is so funny, Karen! And yes, I now desperately “Need” Paramaibo. 🙂
The BF named our new baby Annabelle! She was so brave when we brought her home. She walked right out of the carrier, and started sniffing everything. When Rocky hissed at her, she ignored it, and didn’t hiss back. Jazz was less hostile and just sniffed her through the carrier. She’s in the living room for now. When Rocky gets over the shock of no longer being the only princess in the house, we’ll let Annabelle roam some more. 😀
Kat says
I love this post! It is definitely a unique and interesting take on a regular review. Thank you for mixing things up – I’m so happy you make an effort to keep reviews interesting 🙂 Reviews in general can get pretty repetitive but yours definitely doesn’t.
DalaLuz says
You’re hilarious 😀
Angela G. says
Wow Karen, I’m shocked that you didn’t get the Daily Double. LOL
These shadows are very pretty, but they remind me of shades from UD’s Naked Palette. A little too warm for my complexion but they look lovely on you. =)
Missa says
Hahaha, loved this post! Those two duos really do look similar. Thinking about picking up star sailor now. Thanks Karen!
Karen says
Hi Missa,
Once they’re on you can see a difference. Paramaribo is more metallic and has a little bit of green in it! Star Sailor is great, though, and one of my go-to faves. You’ll love it!
shiny says
Good job, Miss K. If there’s a beauty category for blog awards I guess I know who to nominate now!
corallista says
I was looking forward to seeing this one on your and it looks beautiful! The combination in Star Sailor is relatively easier to find than Paramaribo I feel. Whats your favorite lip pairing with Golden/Olive eye shadows?
Beauty and the Scientist says
Your posts are hilarious, love it 🙂 I kept hearing Alex’s voice. I wonder what the double jeopardy question was?
Kim says
In return for all your makeup guidance, I’ll help you out with the projectile sports category. 🙂 I really like this shadow duo on you. I think I’d look like Earl the Zombie if I tried it (or any gold/yellow shades), but it’s lovely on your lids! Btw, every time Katy Perry’s name comes up, I immediately think “Kitty Purry”. I can’t think of anything more fabulous than the fact that she named her cat that. Sooo love it.
Niya says
I am from Paramaribo! Now I HAVE to get this eyeshadow!
Krisabelle says
You are a nut and I love it! Really enjoyed this fun review, Karen!

In the recent cvs clearance I just bought loreal hip e/s duo in bustling 864 which I consider a dupe for Nars Paramaribo duo ! Had to mention it. Great post as always btw. And v flattering look for you.
Jen says
Love the Jeopardy-themed post! My inner makeup nerd loves it 🙂 And lovely swatches too… I’ll have to check this duo out!
Sigourney says
Haha my parents are from Paramaribo…to be honest when you wear this eyeshadow you look like you could be from there too!
Andreea says
Lipstick and your hair is too die for!
Rachel says
Really really really love that lipstick.
