Some words just belong together, ya know? — like “super” and “secret,” especially when the super comes before the secret.
Maybe that’s why I keep wanting to call Salma Hayek’s new Nuance Secret Super Moisturizing Body Cream ($14.99) “My Super Secret” body cream instead. 🙂
Of course, it’s no longer a secret; this cat’s out of the bag, as it and the other products in the new Nuance line of makeup, skin and hair care are available now exclusively at CVS/pharmacy stores.
I applied the cream before bed both nights last weekend, and color my dragon scales impressed! Not only has it soothed and smoothed the thirstiest parts of my bone dry bod (my legs, ankles and elbows), it even gets a paws up from Tabs.
Salma’s cosmetologist grandmother whipped up the secret sauce herself, or so the story goes, to nourish, relieve and restore dehydrated skin. The tube lists a bunch of plant-based and natural ingredients (many of them up near the top of the list) like shea butter, honey and macadamia nut oil.
When he heard that Salma’s crew refrained from testing the cream on animals, Tabs voiced an enthusiastic, “meow.”
Scrolling down the list of ingredients, I spotted something I’d never seen before called heptyl undecylenate. Turns out that it’s a new emollient derived from castor oil, and it’s being touted as a natural alternative to synthetic silicones and mineral oils; it can also be mixed with natural oils to make them less greasy.
So far, I think Salma’s grandmother did a great job; I’m really loving this cream. It absorbs quickly, delivers mega moisture, doesn’t leave behind a greasy residue or film and has a faint green-tea scent that I like.
PRICE: $14.99 for an 8-oz. tube
AVAILABILITY: Available exclusively at CVS/pharmacy stores and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A (it’s a little pricey for drugstore; otherwise, I’d give it an A+)
Bravo! Bravo!
It looks like we made it through another Monday, my friend. 🙂
This is totally random, but I’ve been trying to think of ways to reward myself for doing things like working out and dishes, and a friend of mine suggested stickers.
Yep, stickers.
So…every time I write in my journal, which is something I’m trying to get better about doing, I get a foil star sticker (I found a pack of them at Target for $2) to place in my day planner.
A little corny, I know, but I think it helps. Heck…who doesn’t like stickers?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

At my CVS, her entire line was sold out!

I picked up a sample of this last week at CVS, and so far I’m in love! My skin actually still feels amazing in the morning when I apply it at bedtime, and that hardly ever happens. I think I’ll be investing in the full size, especially since there was a coupon attached to the sample!

this sounds amazing! i’m gonna have to make a trip to a CVS the next time i’m in the states!

Haha, love the stickers bit. My piano teacher used to do that to me for every piece of music I played well. It was good motivation 🙂
Nivedita says
This sounds good. but I think too pricey. but given what it does , I think I would check it out if I lay my hands on these

I used a CVS 30% off coupon to buy her Walnut Facial Scrub. It’s great stuff! I’m going to write a post about it tomorrow.

I’ve started a new system to keep myself working out and its really working. I have used dry erase markers to draw some boxes (in a fun shape) on my mirror. At the beginning of the month I set a goal for how many times I’m going to work out and put that many boxes on the mirror. Each time I work out I color one in. It is cool to see my progress and it helps me stay accountable to myself.

This sounds great (aside from the very cumbersome name!). It is a little pricey for a drug store brand, but if it works, it’s worth it. I think it’s nice that the line is inspired by Selma’s Grandmother. 🙂

Wow, Salma Hayek has a body moisturiser? That’s cool! Wonder how I can get my paws on that…
Nina says
ohhh Karen, i totally do stickers on my journal too! i get them on clearance at Joannes, Michael’s or Target! my current fave are cute tiny pastel colored flipflops!
Nuance gets cheaper when its on BOGO or 40% off – i think its BOGO this week at CVS. 😀

Palmer cocoa body butter is still my favorite, performance, scent, and price-wise. I think the “not testing on animal” here is quite a gimmick. You don’t really need to test this lotion on animal. All the ingredients are already proven safe by previous animal testing (I’m not certain, but i think that’s the case). It’s like saying “this floss was not tested on animal” just for marketing. It’s irrelevant!

I wonder what these smell like?
kiwikiwidragon says
answering my own question here, I went out at lunch and bought these. It’s kindof a grassy rose type of smell. I am a little sensitive right now and it feels strong to me. good thing about cvs is that I can return it if i can’t tolerate it. 🙂

Wow! A lot of people were anticipating this. Looks like a winner!

Yeah, uh, the CVSs in my area have fallen down on their “get stock in and out on the floor” duties. The sale last week of BOGO on Nuance? Yeah, no CVS actually had any product out, and still don’t so far this week for BOGO1/2. Kinda crappy for them to be promoting nationally that they’ve got this exclusive line that’s so exclusive a bunch of their own stores don’t carry it!
kiwikiwidragon says
Brutal, mine actually had it out that week before the August launch date. I got the rose balm (2nd one) and the smoky quad in the BOGO free sale and the lotion and cream in the BOGO 1/2 off sale. You should ask if they have them in the store even if they aren’t on display and point to the sales flier, if they can’t produce them, ask for a rain check on the sale. and if they still don’t have the product, call the main office and let them know. As far as I understand it, this was a nationwide roll out.
Sara says
Yep, I asked the girl working the second store I visited after seeing a display that wasn’t finished being set up. She was beyond clueless. Seriously, I actually felt kind of bad (on top of the annoyance) because she was just so….well, I don’t want to be insulting so I’ll just replay how it went. “Hi, do you know if you have the stock for the Nuance displays in the store now or when you will be getting them?”
“The what?”
“Nuance, it’s a new line……it’s on a BOGO sale this week in the ad…”
“Umm, I don’t know that one.” *turns around, looks in a basket on the counter behind her that has product that was either returned or needed to be put back* “No, we don’t have it.”
………… whut? She had the most blank stare I’ve ever seen in a person and was just so completely out of it.
Needless to say I went to a *third* store slightly more in a residential area to see if they would have it and was helped by a really nice girl. She was telling me that the “make up girl” in her store just hadn’t gotten it in or put that stuff out yet – can’t remember which. And the other stores in the area weren’t that good about things either. She did offer the rain check to me – first I’d ever hear of such a thing! – and now it’s in my coupon book waiting for the stock to actually come in.
If it’s not out by the end of this week I’ll definitely contact someone higher up. CVS might not like losing money from their stores being so disorganized. *whew that was a long rant*!
kiwikiwidragon says
No biggie Sara. This was a huge promotion for them and if they dropped the ball, corporate should know. I have had similar encounters with SA’s before at different retailers though. makes me a true believer that aliens do live among us, no human could be so clueless…..wait, never mind, they can be totally that stupid. 🙂

The star system reminds me of elementary school “grading system”… I love it! 🙂
Karen says
LOL, kinda! It works though. 🙂 I just rewarded myself with another one, as a matter o’ fact.
Traci says
I don’t like the price, but it sounds promising, and most important for me is that it doesn’t contain dimethicone! You know how hard it is to find a good body lotion without it?? I’m definitely gonna pick this up soon
Karen says
Hi Traci,
You might want to wait for a BOGO sale!
Samantha says
Oddly enough, my friend Anna gets sick when she sees stickers. I’m not sure what it is… but she just gets really nauseous and always has, even since we were little! This lotion sounds really nice… Do you like the smell?
Karen says
I do. It has a faint green tea scent.
shiny says
dude, do not underestimate the power of stickers – my mom used them ALWAYS when dealing with her playgroup and music lesson kids.
and later, I seriously used them as an incentive in a charity, for low-income women to save.
the star stickers, they have the power!!
shiny says
Why not try and get cat stickers to motivate you even more?
Karen says
I looked around for some but couldn’t find any! I REALLY want to get a pack of Lisa Frank stickers… I used to love those when I was a kid.

I wish I had a cosmetologist grandmother to whip me up some secret sauce! This product looks lovely, and the ingredients are quite similar to my DIY Shea Butter, Macadamia, and honey body cream.
Karen says
I had a cosmetologist grandma (well, she did a brief stint as a cosmetology student), and what I ended up with was a bad perm, LOL!
kiwikiwidragon says
I too had a cosmetologist grandma, she gave the best perms, but dreadful hair cuts . I did make my own lotions and creams and while i enjoyed it, getting ingredients is costly. Just like makeup and other cosmetics you want some of everything so you can experiment. I enjoyed it so much but there is a time factor as well. it can be easier to buy something fabulous instead of creating it. Same goes for food and clothes too.
