With the new Tarte LipSurgence Lip Crèmes on my lips today, I’m feeling Empowered…
And Serene…
And full of Wonder. 🙂
It’s the truth, not an Illusion!
Honestly, though, I’m feeling good. 🙂 Yes, partly due to these summery lipsticks from Tarte, and that’s essentially what they are — chubby pencils filled with super creamy lipstick — but partly also because of their names. They’re called Serene, Empowered, Wonder and Illusion. That’s like self-help catnip right thurrr.
Whoever named these, thank you. I needed that extra boost of beauty power this afternoon (*high-fives self*).
The Tarte Summer 2015 Poppy Picnic Collection: LipSurgence Lip Crèmes
Tarte’s LipSurgence Lip Crèmes aren’t exactly fresh out the oven. They came out a while back, but technically, they’re new-ish. They’re part of the Tarte Summer 2015 Poppy Picnic Collection.
There are four shades, $24 each, and they’re exclusive to Ulta stores (which means no Sephora) and tartecosmetics.com.
Like Tarte’s other LipSurgence lip products, they masquerade as chubby pencils. Just twist them up, and fill in your lips,
It may help to pretend you’re drawing on your face with a crayon…
Well…I don’t know if it helps, but it makes it more fun for me. Like being in art class.
Wait, where’s the mint?
First, these taste completely unlike the other LipSurgence lip products I’ve tried before. There’s no minty flavor or scent. In fact, when I rub my lips together, I can’t really taste anything with these, other than very, very faint wax (it’s very, very, very faint).
I actually think it’s nice. Nothing against that old LipSurgence mint, because I think it’s refreshing and all, but change is good. At least, that’s what I tell myself every time I find another top on sale at LOFT. 😉
Reminds me of the MAC Cremesheen Lipsticks
Although they aren’t identical… These feel slightly thicker and creamier to me and, well, of course they’re creamy, right? What’s a Lip Crème without the creaminess? A tragedy in a tube, that’s what.
Anyway, they’re comfortable and moderately moisturizing, too — like a silky MAC Crèmesheen Lipstick with a little extra heft (so they’re not completely featherweight), and they last from 4-5 hours.
How’s the coverage?
These are described as full coverage, but after recently playing with the Clinique Pop Lip Colours, I dunno about that.
I have this tiny freckle on my bottom lip that gets completely covered up when I wear the Clinique Pops, but I can still see it when I wear these Tarte Lip Crèmes.
I know, very scientific. 🙂
I’d characterize the lighter shades, Serene and Empowered, as medium coverage, and the darker shades, Wonder and Illusion, as full-light, or just shy of full.
What’s my favorite thing about these?
The creaminess — and how smooth they look on lips.
And, as weird as it sounds, the names. I really like the names.
The colors themselves, however, while beautiful and creamy and great, aren’t exactly unique, but few products these days are. Couple Tarte’s natural ingredients with these uplifting, inspiring names, and I’m happy.
I don’t know… I just think names hold a lot of power, and when I’m feeling blue or have a friend who needs a boost, you could do worse than reach for a product called Empowered. Any time something can make you feel better or inspired — be it wearing a lipstick, or glancing up at a motivational poster on your wall, or reading your favorite quote on a Post-It note stuck to the corner of your computer screen, that’s a good thing.
I do like the deeper shades, Wonder and Illusion, but my favorites are the nudes, Serene and Empowered. When I wear ’em I feel brighter and more awake.

I never tried the others because I didn’t like the mint! But now that it’s gone I definitely need to try these! I especially love Empowered!

Hi Karen! I got a 4 lip creme set from QVC last year and didn’t really like them. They are creamy and pigmented, (medium coverage as you said), but they dry out pretty fast on my lip. I actually like the mint scent/feeling in the old lip creme. ha
Recently, Im in love with Marc Jacobs le marc lip creme. They are bold colors and last sooo long. I know you like kiss pop (right?), then you need to try these! 🙂

I’m curious now, because I hate mint lippies, which is why I’ve avoided the Tarts stains.

I love the LipSurgence pencils, including the mint. 🙂 I can see (smell?) where the mint might turn off a lot of people, though: It’s been pretty strong in the past. These colors are beautiful. I like Illusion a lot.

The colors are a bit dupable but the formula sounds pretty nice though. I enjoy the MAC cremesheen formula and these look more pigmented so I may try one

Very nice. I really like Illusion on you.

Give me a crayon and make me pretend I am five years old again, drawing on my dolls face and I am one happy lady.
Keep in touch with your inner child!

I am definitely a night owl. Even when I was a kid in school, I hated that it started so early and I always complained that adults get the option to work at night, so why can’t kids have the option to go to school at night? I work the 4-midnight shift now.
