Indecisiveness doesn’t go well with Tarte’s new holiday kit. Nope, the $48 Puttin’ on the Glitz kit comes with three interchangeable palettes, but you can only fit one of them in the cute silver clutch at a time.
Hmm…
Being a fiend for accessories, my pulse jumped when I heard about this clever limited edition cutie and its 18 powder eyeshadows, highlighter, bronzer and lipgloss. To make it easier to tote the products around (but not all at the same time), Tarte included the clutch, which incorporates a mirror for touch-ups and slots for bills and credit cards. There’s also a tutorial booklet with pretty helpful directions for three different looks.
With these shadows, Tarte was very generous with the pigment; they didn’t hold anything back. The shadow powders feel softer to me, and the colors appear more intense, than the ones in their recent Starlet Makeup Vanity.
While the mattes and shimmers eagerly adhere to my skin, some of the sparkly shades exhibit enough fallout to make using them a challenge. I had to do a LOT of maintenance for the purple smokey look in these pics, and at one point just decided to go with the glittery flow.
I think the light veil of cool pink from the PureOptic gloss draws just enough attention away from the eyes, without throwing the entire look out of whack. And as for the blush, highlighter and bronzer, I like the natural glow each of them delivers, but I think the powders might be a touch too powdery and finely milled.
Overall, I really like this kit, and not just because it comes with a purse. 🙂 The tutorials on the included booklet are refreshingly helpful and easy to follow, and most of the products, with the exception of the sparkliest shadows, seem top notch to me.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. So I learned a valuable lesson about sushi last night after a trip to Trader Joe’s. The lesson: don’t go there. Unless you like gooey rice with little crunchy bits that taste — oh, I don’t know — like sawdust.
Sorry, Joe. For all of your many hits, even you have a few misses.
But on a happy note, the Dark Chocolate stars are back!
YES!
Now all I have to do is exercise some restraint with these…starting tomorrow, LOL!
I hope your Tuesday went well. Anything new to report?
Kristine Ayala says
CHOCOLATE!
Karen says
Have you had TJ’s Dark Chocolate Stars before? They’re so good!
Stephanie R says
My in-laws just came back from a vacation to Italy…and they made sure they brought me home genuine Swiss dark chocolate! YUM.
…And the hubby thinks I’m going to share it with him. Uh, no. Not happening. Same goes for my limited edition white-fudge covered Oreos!
Karen says
WAIT… fudge-covered Oreos?!? The genius who dreamt that up needs a medal of honor!
Rae // theNotice says
Okay – can I just give a huge HELL to the YES for the palette design, please? I can’t get past the clunkiness of vanity-style palettes (how is that supposed to be user-friendly?!), but a clutch containing a couple book-like ones – now that’s a train I could get on 😛
Not sure how I feel about the glitter fallout (actually, that’s a lie; I know exactly how I’d feel about it and that is “not good!”) but I do like the design. And those shades! Those SHADES! *flail*
Antonia at Swedish Love Affair says
All the colors are lovely!
Elizabeth says
Too bad they didn’t have more glosses to mix and match, too! 🙂
Karen says
Oh, I know! I would’ve loved a peach gloss!
Adrienne says
Slots for bills and credit cards… Pure genius!!! This says “yes, Adrienne, it’s totally normal to bring all your makeup with you so you can touch up!!”, which I like to do since I have such oily skin. Now here’s to hoping that the shadows are good enough that you won’t need to touch up, but it’s just great to have them just in case! I like he purples best, I cam already tell you they would hardly leave the case!
I wonder if the powders can take the beating a normal purse takes in a nightclub without crumbling…
Karen says
Hi Adrienne,
Hmm, the clutch and the packaging is pretty sturdy, but to be on the safe side, I’d probably limit it to non-dancing nights out — dinners, movies, drinks, that kind of thing.
You’ve got good taste, btw, because I loooove the purples too! 😀
Vonvon says
The design and colors in the pan all look very pretty. But the swatches show that the colors are quite chalky and sheer?
But the clutch is pretty!
Karen says
Naw, they’re actually very pigmented.
Kelly says
Very nice! So convenient that it comes with all of those colours! I really want one now lol
Karen says
Super cute, right?
Kim says
Oh, Tarte. So clever and beautiful. 🙂 I have been meaning to ask you about their glosses, though. I’m confused by the “clear” half. I’m sorry if you’ve already talked about it before and I missed it!
Karen says
No worries! The clear part is just packaging. Most of the tube is dedicated to the clicker-thing-a-ma-jig.
Kim says
I thought that might be the case. Probably makes it easier to locate than it would be if it was just the tiny tube. 🙂
Chris25 says
I like the idea of a mini palette, because I could take this anywhere with me.
Chocolate stars? it’s a good thing I’m going to TJs today!
Karen says
The TJ’s Dark Chocolate Stars will change your life! They have a bunch of yummy holiday stuff out right now, so keep an eye out.
Sonya says
I love the clutch! I’ve already gotten so many of this year’s holiday sets, I should probably let this one go..
Karen says
The clutch is super cute. What holiday sets are you loving so far?
Suselew says
I passed on this one because the highlighter, blush and bronzer all reside on separate palettes. It would have been nicer to split that area into thirds and gave you all three on all three palettes. What good does it do to try and touch up your palette when you have the one with only the bronzer? Otherwise, I am truly a Tartelette as I have about half of what they make. But this was one product I just had no interest in.
Karen says
Hi Suselew,
You’re so cute — “truly a Tartelette.” 🙂 What are your fave things from the line? Right now I’m loving their Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara, LipSurgence Lip Tints, Amazonian Clay Blushes and Amazonian Clay Pressed Mineral Powder.
Natasia says
I think some of the lighter colors pop a little too much to be worn at my office. But I looooove the purse! I would buy it just for that.
Nina says
dark chocolate stars and awesome makeup from Tarte — i love it!
Karen says
I wait all year long for those darned stars! 😀
Nina says
ohh darned stars, please come home to me soon! :-d

What the what!?! Tabs is on Lolcats! (http://icanhascheezburger.com/) Someone posted a picture of him in his Halloween shark costume with a caption today! I almost spit out my coffee when I saw it…hahaha!

Thanks for the heads up this morning, Inycat! 🙂
Tiffany says
Great look!

I love the holiday season….all the tasty treats and they even started decorating the lamp posts here in Philly!! Speaking of TJs, I was just adding gnocchi to my TJ list in my iPhone, time to add these dark chocolate starts too!
Oh, and its products like this that enable us makeup addicts to care more about carrying makeup in our purses than carrying money. =)

Cindy (Prime Beauty) says
Ordered this from QVC last weekend for around $43 and free shipping! Can’t wait to try it–I think it would make an excellent gift too if I can keep my paws off it!
Karen says
Hi Cindy,
I have the same problem. 🙂 I pick makeup kits up for other people but then end up keeping it for myself, whoops!
stephanie says
they dont do tarte here in the UK, I wish we had as many cosmetic brands as you can get in the US. =(
Karen says
Hi Stephanie,
Aw, you guys get some cool brands that we can’t get over here. Who knows? Maybe Tarte will head over to your side of the pond someday!
Sam says
Karen, have you tried the Tarte Eye Candy Waterproof Amazonian Clay Shadow Wand available on QVC? Just wondering what’d be your opinion on them! Thanks in advance!
Karen says
Hi Sam,
I’ve only seen pics so far.
Gals, has anyone here tried the Eye Candy Wands yet? I’d love to hear about them, too.
Jaclyn says
This tarte palette looks absolutely adorable.. i was wondering if you knew where else aside from sephora that they sell it in Vancouver, Canada? Do they sell it in any other stores that are less expensive? Thanks so much!
Karen says
Hi Jaclyn,
It’s a little cheaper if you buy it on QVC.com ($43), but you’ll have to double check with them to see if they ship out to Canada. Here’s a link to their customer service page.
mn says
I love the look you did- was amazed at the cheekbones since the blushes don’t look that pigmented. Can kick myself since I saw this on QVC and didn’t pick it up- oh well.
By the way- thanks for the ongoing TJ recommendations & the Coconut Chai tea head’s up… I need to pick some up.
Karen says
Hi MN,
The blush and bronzer are surprisingly pigmented. They’re great!
Glad you’re enjoying the TJ and tea recs. Let’s see… have you ever had their plantain chips? They’re my new favorite thing.
yuri says
i just saw this collection a couple of days ago on QVC
Karen says
Cool. What do you think of it?
peach_ says
That kit is really cute! I have to agree that TJ’s sushi is not only bad…but horrible! 🙁 I forgive them because the mango and cream bars you got me hooked on over the summer are AH-MAZING!
Bun Bun Makeup Tips says
WOW! The packaging is so pretty! However the sling is pretty useless and troublesome I guess? The tutorial booklet is really helpful though, great for when you just don’t want to think too much about which color to go with which.
Lucy says
I’ve been eyeing this set ever since it came out. It’s good to hear that this is better pigmented that the holiday set. You just never know with Tarte holiday eyeshadow sets. Well, if it weren’t for your blog I mean ;).
Now I’m not sure if I wanna get this or UD’s 15 Anniversary palette! : / What do you recommend based on eyeshadow quality alone?
One more question: Do the palettes stay closed on their own if they’re not put into the clutch? I hope there’s a magnet to close each one all but I can’t tell.
Jenn says
this looks so gorgeous! I want it!!
Aimee says
I just tried to haul this at Sephora.com but I don’t see it! What’s going on? 🙁

Share no chocolate Karen; great job!
Have a good week!
