I live for picnics…
The fun in the sun, the food, the friends, the family, the food…
Did I already mention the food? 🙂
I might actually love picnic fare more than I love brunch, and you know how much I love brunch.
(A lot.)
It’s because of the sides, man! I’m all about the sides. The potato salad, macaroni salad, fruit salad, that weird Jello salad that one of my aunties usually makes which looks totally gross but tastes hella delicious.
Oh! — and the corn on the freaking cob?
I wants it… I wants it all.
Speaking of picnics (how’s that for a lazy transition, ha!), there’s one happening now at Tarte, and it’s new for summer 2015.
Say “Please pass the potato chips!” to the Tarte Poppy Picnic Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette ($38)
The Tarte Poppy Picnic Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette: A Quick FAQ/Rundown
What is it?
A $38 limited edition eye & cheek palette (available now) containing six new powder eyeshadows and one re-promoted powder blush (it’s called Glisten) containing Tarte’s jam, otherwise known as Amazonian clay, which is supposed to soak up any oily bits while simultaneously balancing moisture levels in your skin.
Are there any limited edition shades?
Yes, ma’am, there are. The eyeshadows in Summer Breeze (a matte cream), Sweet Tea (a matte tan), Ice Cream Cone (a matte chocolate), Barefoot in the Grass (a matte light tan), Peach Poppy (a matte peach) and Picnic Basket (a matte deep brown) are all limited edition.
What size are the pans?
Shimmery golden pink Glisten Blush is a 0.20-ounce full-size pan, and the eyeshadows are smaller at 0.06 ounces each.
What can you tell me about the texture of the eyeshadows?
Well, I can tell ya that they kick up a lot of powder, so it helps to tap off your brush before applying them; otherwise, you get a little fallout.
Beyond that, though, they feel smooth to me, and they’re easy to blend.
Are the eyeshadows pigmented or sheer?
I’d say that the lighter tan and peach shades are sheer to medium, while the two darkest shades are medium (I built them up for the swatches to make ’em nice and dark), and none of them look heavy on the skin.
How about the texture of the blush?
Slightly grainy…which is probably because of the pretty big flecks of golden glitter in it.
How pigmented is the blush?
Moderately pigmented, but not crazy town/crazy clown pigmented. I only need a single layer.
Does the palette remind you of anything else from Tarte?
It does. Because most of the shadows are matte, neutral and aren’t overly warm or cool, the palette reminds me of a smaller, slightly different version of the Tartelette palette.
The warm-ish shades, though — Peach Poppy and Barefoot in the Grass — make it a little different…but not totally different. If you already have the Tartlette palette and/or Glisten Blush, I’d skip it (unless you want dupes).
How do you feel about the palette overall?
For quick nude/neutral day looks, I like it. The eyeshadows are easy to blend (easier than the ones in the Too Faced Natural Matte palette, for example), which makes it suitable for urgent get-out-the-door-immediately moments.
Good for makeup minimalists, but probably not as good for someone looking for big va-va-voom glam. I mean, you could get there with this…but it would take a lot of layering.
I like the blush, too, but the glitter amplifies my pores. That, or maybe my pores have gotten so big that they’ve hit the point of no return. Who knows?
If you’re on the market for a new matte neutral palette, the Tarte Summer 2015 Poppy Picnic Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette will do fine, but it won’t, like, break the Internets or inspire someone to write a sonnet or anything.
I’m just sayin’.

It’s pretty but not very unique. I like the blush. Karen what’s your favorite matte palette?
Karen says
Hey Sarahc,
I really like the Becca Ombre Nudes Palette. It has lots of cool and neutral matte browns which I love for transition colors. Have a great weekend!

Tarte can put together such nice eye and cheek palettes, but I don’t think you need to put down a lot of money to get this kind of color combo – wish it was a little more exciting!
LindaLibraLoca says
Not very special looking. Maybe great for someone starting in Makeup and Tarte.

As others have said the shades aren’t very unique but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a lovely lovely palette.

I agree, not super unique in terms of colors but pretty nonetheless. I even have Glisten, it used to be my favorite blush a few years ago!

I love Barefoot in the Grass and Peach Poppy, but I don’t want to buy the entire palette for those shades. Can anyone tell me if there are individual eye shadow dupes for those colors? Thank you!

This looks beautiful in the palette and on you. Unfortunately I’m allergic to Amazonian clay. I found that out the very, very hard way. As in, my face swelled up and my right eye swelled shut. It was not pretty. And the skin under my right eye never returned to normal. The texture of the skin on my right eye is super papery thin with a deep wrinkle, while my left eye feels more plump and there are no wrinkles. I can wear Tarte mascaras and lip products though, which is nice at least!

Looks like a great palette for beginners. I could easily see myself getting bored with this lol

It’s pretty but I just got a palette from them last month 🙁

Very pretty, especially the blush. I think I’d rather have the Poppy Picnic palette, though.

Ack, wrong comment! I shouldn’t switch between two blogs when I’m half asleep. LOLOLOLOL
I do want this palette. I love the poppy design on front, and the colors look very versatile.
Now, off for some caffeine…I obviously need it.

Like this palette, your necklace. And now I really want to go on a picnic!!!

I’ve seen some pretty mixed reviews on this palette which surprises me coming from Tarte. I was going to offer it as an April giveaway and then decided not to and chose a different Tarte product! The shadows are definitely a bit drab especially with the colors that are on trend right now. I still love Tarte Cosmetics though because hey, you can’t win em all, right? 😉
