Tarte for True Blood Natural Cheek Stain: Y’all Red-y for This?

Published in: Makeup, Product Reviews

Remember the True Blood episode last season when Pam busted out the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil? I turned to El Hub on the couch and was like, “ZOMG! Did you see Pam with her NARS!? AAAHHHH!”

He just stared at me like I’d lost my mind…

Don’t you just love it when you recognize makeup on your favorite TV shows? I wonder if the new Tarte for True Blood Natural Cheek Stain ($30) will make an appearance on TV this year.

It’s an intensely pigmented red gel blush, recently launched with two other pieces in the new limited edition Tarte for True Blood collection, and it’s loaded with golden glitter.

I can see it now, gracing some of True Blood’s malevolent and benevolent characters like…

Lafayette, clad in a see-through mesh top and camo capri pants. He’s getting ready in the bathroom at Merlotte’s for a rollicking night with the wiccans. He applies a single layer directly onto the apples of his cheeks, then blends out the edges with his fingers. The sheer red stain hides on his dark skin, just barely showing through, but the gobs of golden glitter sparkle like vampire fangs in the moonlight.

Or pale, beautiful Jessica, with her everlasting red hair. She’s sprucing up before a dinner date with Hoyt, her human beau (and her favorite meal). On her porcelain skin, the stain looks much more intense than it does on Lafayette, but Jessica isn’t afraid to make a statement with her looks. As a matter of fact, she loves the attention.

Whether the stain was designed with supernatural beings in mind, mere mortals can rock ’em, too. A single layer gives me a deep red flush and enough golden glitter to last a few lifetimes.

Did I mention that it’s sparkly? Very, very sparkly? I loves me some glitter, but dayum — borderline obnoxious, y’all.

I wouldn’t wear it to a formal affair, but definitely to a night of dancing at Fangtasia (hi, is Eric here?). πŸ™‚

    • Karen says:

Yeah! When he cut his hair it was ON!

      • lexi says:

2nd that! pre-haircut Eric was not for me

        • Karen says:

Totally… it looked all stringy and was in dire need of conditioning, LOL!

Also, I have to say the V-neck T’s totally increased his stock for me. HELLO!

          • Anna says:

I hear ya ladies! If you get the chance look up a movie called The Dog Trick. Apart from his great acting of course, he has a shower scene πŸ˜‰

          • Sylvie says:

He looked like a brooding teenager into emo when he didn’t have his hair cut, but yea, I melted everytime he appeared afterwards πŸ˜› Last year when I was in Stockholm, I prayed and prayed to run into him or see him somewhere. No such luck though πŸ™

      • megan says:

YES!!! When he cut his hair I was like ‘hello there’!

  2. Mandy says:

LOL @ Fangtasia reference… omg I love it.

  3. Charisse says:

Love the lip Karen! What is it?

  4. Tiffany says:

OMG you look amazing. Why does everything look 10x better on you than me?!?!?!

    • Karen says:

Dude, this isn’t an easy color to wear… it’s really, REALLY red and super glittery. Have you tried applying it on your fingers first and then dabbing it on your cheeks?

      • Tiffany says:

I haven’t even opened it yet. But in general, everything always looks amazing on you. Now I’m wondering if I should return it. I’m ok with sparkle, but don’t wanna look 12…

  5. Jessi says:

I kind of wanted it until you mentioned the glitter. I don’t mind a bit sparkly, but full on glittery cheeks i just cannot do. πŸ™

I was going to skip this and be a good girl but now I want it because it says GLAMOUR ME on the side….! That is too cool!

  7. Heidi says:

Yeah, don’t know if can rock that much glitter on the cheeks.

    Gorgeous necklace, by the way!

    • Karen says:

Thanks! It’s a little heavy… but I’ll pay the price for fashion, haha.

Is Missy going crazy? Now that it’s hot outside again Tabs is slowly but surely slipping into crazypants mode around 6 (give or take a half hour or so).

      • Heidi says:

Well, now, that’s kind of a trick question since crazy pants mode is Missy’s natural state!

She’s being quite the drama queen about the heat, all stretched out on the floor, making herself as long as possible. I have to just work around her to get anywhere in the room!

  8. marisol says:

You look lovely. What lip color are you wearing?

And get in line. Eric is mine.

  9. Ellen says:

WANT! I can’t wait for these to come to stores πŸ™‚ I’m a huge sparkle fan so that much glitter is fine by me. Are you going to be reviewing the Lipsurgence pencil too?

  10. Inky says:

Lovely! I found that with a light touch and/or if you apply with your fingertips, it is not as sparkly. It’s a great blush shade and lip stain.

  11. Instant Karma says:

WHOA, sparkly. I don’t think I can pull off that much bling on my cheeks, haha. However, it looks like it might make a nice lip color (unless it’s too drying for that).

Oooh! I got some cute shots of Tigger with EvRev. I’ll email them to you as soon as I put them on my computer πŸ™‚

  12. tzu says:

at first i was all about bill but after reading the books, TEAM ERIC all the way!!! <3<3

  13. Rayanna says:

Waiting for mine to come in the mail soon with the lippy as well, I can’t wait!!!

  14. ladydi says:

    Is it sticky?

  15. I was really worried about how red this would be but it seems to be quite wearable. Although, I should probably keep in mind you have a skin colour where as I am usually mistaken for a vampire.

Who am I kidding, I will still buy it!

  16. Andrea says:

wow am sooooo jealous πŸ™‚ it seems so wearable maybe is my idea ? Loove it but we dont have
    Sephora over here πŸ™

  17. Andrea says:

    Love that lipstick too πŸ™‚

  18. Carissa says:

Forgot the cheek stain, I just went Eric! Last week’s episode with the tight black v-neck? YES PLEASEEEEEE!

  19. Nina says:

something tells me i need this cheek stain. i ordered the palette but … its not enough!

  20. Paigest says:

I love it! But I think they have the wrong movie it’s the Cullens that sparkle! lol

  21. Connie says:

LOL! I did the exact same thing when I saw that episode – I was all ‘OMG Pam has the same NARS pencil as me! Life is complete!’ and my friend thought I was ca-razy!!

    Eric….sigh <3

  22. Crystal says:

Love the cheeks but love that necklace so much more! πŸ˜€

  23. Athena says:

I wonder if it’s a case by case basis, because mine barely has any glitter that shows up! Maybe you got the excess glitter from my tube, haha!

Or maybe I just got a dud? Because this one is dry compared to my Dollface and True Love stain. Not complaining though! Worked out in my favor for my oily skin!

  24. Melanie says:

Oh I want to get this stain but not sure if it’ll work on my fair 38 year old skin…i look like a vamp as it is (have dark hair). I love how they packaged this stuff though. The pic of the cheek stain looks like it’s oozing with blood. they must’ve worked hard to come up with these items.

I love Eric. I cringe when I see and hear Bill though. Sookie what were you thinking

  25. Lauwchen says:

looks lovely on you! Actually love the whole look ^^

  26. Maria says:

I guess my post didnt come up the first time, lol

    It looks pretty on you

  27. lorrie says:

has anyone tried the new trueblood eye pallet yet??

  28. Hannah says:

haha – when I was buying the Trueblood palette, I looked at this and the salesperson helping me literally said, “I can’t sell you that – I would feel guilty.” I just wish it was a little less sparkly!!
