Well polish my coffin and pour me another cup of that True Blood, Team Tarte, because I’d like to raise my glass! Y’all obviously sunk your teeth into the new limited edition True Blood Palette ($52). I’d stake my life on that.
But seriously, the effort Tarte put into developing this palette shows in the clever little details, like the words “Open After Dark” scrawled across the cubby that conceals the mini primer, mascara and eyeliner, and the lace threading through the grommets on the cover (er, those better not be silver!).
Saucy!
A little drawer for a set of fake fangs would’ve been the icing on the cake. After all, undead wannabes wear makeup, too, but I guess you can’t appease all of the fangbangers all of the time… But you can appease some of them some of the time, especially when you arrange the shadows in a palette in a logical way.
You know how brands will sometimes haphazardly place unrelated shades beside each other in a palette? That’s one of my eye palette pet peeves, but I like how this palette groups smokey shadows in the lower right hand corner, warmer jewel tones in the lower left and the neutrals at the top. It’s conducive to creativity (at least I think so) and makes it easy to sift through the 17 shades.
Baby vamps probably wouldn’t realize this yet, but after a few hundred years, the nights begin to blur together. The way these shadows seamlessly blend together reminds me of that aspect of everlasting undead life. It takes barely a few flicks from an eyeshadow brush to transition from one shade to the next, even when I’m wearing several colors on my lids.
And, dude, I don’t care how easy Vampire Bill makes glamoring humans look, it can take up a huge chunk of my night. Because these shadows stay put from dusk till dawn without fading or creasing at all, they free up my human hunting time.
As for the other three pieces in the set, I like the eyeshadow primer and mascara, but my eyes tear up when I wear the liner along my water line (sorry, Lafayette).
Seasoned eyeshadow junkies with large collections may already have many of these shades. For that reason, it may be more attractive to makeup newbies and true-blue True Blood fans. Once they realize what a great value it is, they’ll be rising from the ground quicker than you can say, “AB negative, please.” 🙂

oohh I think Lafayette would approve. But more importantly so would Eric. I really like that green shadow. Reminds me a bit of MAC’s Humid.
Karen says
It is kinda Humid-esque… maybe with a little less black?
Denise says
I like the effort they put into putting this palette together. Makes me want to get my paws on this just to touch the cover. Awesome that they put all those textures on the cover!
Karen says
Totally. I love all the layers.
shugal says
OMG!! I want it!!! They should make a coffin shaped one too!!! 🙂
Karen says
I’m sure there would be vamp fans out there who would be into it!
dani@callitbeauty says
ooh, there are some GORGEOUS shades in this palette!
Karen says
Yes! Which ones are your faves?
Marilyn @ Lipgloss and Spandex says
It looks great… but the pigmentation of tarte eye shadows seems like it’s just okay, a touch chalky. 🙁
Karen says
On me the colors are pretty pigmented, and texture-wise they’re smooth. I guess it just depends on the person.
maryinwonder says
fun post! =) loved to read it.
I so want this palette! I don’t own any Tarte stuff so far and I really hope so this will be my first from them 🙂
and the box……oooooh pretty! *.*
Karen says
You’re in for a treat! They’ve been doing a lot of great stuff lately.

Advah says
I’m not entirely convinced by the colours, but the greyish ones are stunning! (yes, I also have a soft spot for that kind of colours) And that smokey eye you did is beauuuuutiful – very sexy night at Fangtasia!
Which reminds me I still have to watch episode two. He eh he.
Karen says
I won’t spoil it for you, but I will say that things get interesting. Definitely a step up from the first episode!
Crystal says
Your eyes look beautiful! I love the packaging for this palette:)
Karen says
Thanks, Crystal. For some reason smokey eyes and vampires seem right, LOL!
Vijaya says
This is hot and I want it so baaaad. xP
Karen says
Give it a look next time you’re at Sephora!
Liz says
You look seriously pretty in the first photo for this review. I love TB.
Karen says
Thanks, Liz. I love TB too! This season’s shaping up well so far, don’t you think?

So I’ve never watched true blood a day in my life but I want this palette. Tarte never ceases to impress me! These colors look fab! And you look amazing in them:)
Chris25 says
I like the burgundy-wine shade at the bottom, but I own too much makeup to buy this. I must have all those colors, x5. LOL.
Karen says
LOL, that seems to happen after a few years of collecting.
Amanda says
Wow, those are very nice colors. I wasn’t too impressed when I saw it online but your swatches have me thinking that I may need this! Love the packaging too, so clever.
Karen says
It’s really pretty in person. Are you just getting into eyeshadow? It would make a great starter kit.
Amanda says
No, I’m just newly re-obsessed! I usually am a drugstore shopper but lately have been getting into more high end cosmetics.
Kim says
Oh, you’d be rocking at Fangtasia! 🙂
I love the little touches that Tarte’s added to this collection, too. I thought “Glamour Me” was particularly clever. Of course, you know I have a soft spot for Tarte. And for True Blood. I was looking forward to some crazy Tarte claims with this collection. 🙂
Karen says
LOL, like, “99% of vampires saw a 6000% increase in fang sexiness.”
Kim says
Karen… have you been secretly writing Tarte’s marketing copy all along? You can tell me. HAHA! And, yes, how funny would that have been? 🙂
Nina says
i got mine yesterday and i love love love it! 🙂
the colors are totaly wearable and the packaging is hawt!
Karen says
Totally! Are you wearing it today? That silver is pretty hot, yeah?
Nina says
ohhh yeahhh!
im wearing that burgundy at the bottom all over the lids, but very lightly patted on, the gray beside it in my crease and the silver in the inner corner.
i had to go light w/ the eyeshadow since too much would make it look almost fall/winter. but – with a subtle blush (blushbaby) and nude lips — it really really works!
Tasha says
So pretty!!!!
Karen says
I know! What do you think of the packaging?
Eesha says
All the shades look very pigmented. I really like their efforts in pulling the shades together to create the palette. Packaging also, is very nice.
And as always you looks awesome. 😀
Leslie says
You look absolutely stunning with that smoky eye, but I have to ask, what blush are you wearing? It takes center stage, your cheeks are divine!
Alison says
I completely agree with you about Tarte paying close attention to the placement of colours in the palette. I noticed that any four shadows (that touch ((essentially forming a larger square)) would work together as a “look”. They almost created a large box full of quads.
Priscilla says
What cheek color are you wearing in the photos?
Connie says
I wish Sephora shipped to the UK 🙁
Kinsey says
Wow! The products look great, but the packaging is GORGEOUS! I absolutely love it!
Mary says
I really dig the packaging – they did a good job! As for the colours, they look very wearable! 😀
Melody says
These colors look smokin hot on you, Karen! Tarte always pays attention to the packaging too.
Barb says
My birthday is coming up in August and I am asking for this. The colors look great and I love True Blood!

I am so excited about this kit. I got mine in the mail the other day and I can’t wait to play with it.
Alka says
I would totally be getting this if I was an e/s newbie as it looks just like my current collection of singles. Seriously down to the very last color. Great job Tarte on putting together a spectacular palette. Karen, your smoky look is hot, hot, hot!
Liza Marie says
I want this. So. Bad. And the lip stain too. I’m a sucker (hee) for pretty packaging, but the eye shadows look fantastic!
BTW, love your blog, follow it religiously. 🙂
Dea says
The design of the palette is A W E S O M E !!!
Missy says
When I first saw this palette, I just had to have it! But my bf says I have too many eyeshadows. The pigmentation looks amazing though! Maybe I can convince him for this one since we both love the show. 😛
janice says
I am a huge tb fan. I have dressed like sookie and Pam for Halloween. I luv Tarte, especially their cream blush. Is there any question that I should win? Lol
Sakura says
I’ve been into Vamp drama since Buffy!
Cris says
I love TB and this palette!! I have tried some Tarte palettes before and they had a tendency to leave lots of fall-out. 🙁 Do these eye shadows have any fall-out?
Crispin says
My bf just bought me this for Sweetest Day (because he’s the best!) and I’m in love. I can’t wait to have worn all the colors. Can’t wait for Season 5 either!
Kristina says
This is on sale at sephora right now ! do you think the eye shadows are as pigmented and as great quality as mac or urban decay shadows?
