Is your skin going through ch-ch-ch-changes? If you’ve driven by the teenage skin stage but aren’t quite ready for anti-aging creams, then Biore’s new Skin Preservation Skin Care Collection might be worth a test drive.
Biore says the collection helps delay the signs of aging while simultaneously treating dryness, texture and tone. All this, and it won’t strip your skin.
Items in the five-piece collection, which includes a gel cleanser, an exfoliator, an eye cream and two moisturizers (one with SPF 30 for day; one without for night), range from $7-$15 in price.
While I get the sense that Biore created the line for women in their 20s, budget mavens of all ages could find a lot to like.
I played with three of the products: See the Future Fortifying Eye Cream ($15), Clean Things Up Nourishing Gel Cleanser ($7) and Even Smoother Microderm Exfoliator ($15).
My skin’s a combination of oily, dry and acne-prone — lucky me, right? LOL! When I was in my 20s, it was very oily, and I’d get lots of small pimples on my chin and forehead. The switch to combo-skin was quite unexpected and happened within the last two years. As for wrinkles, I have a few fine lines around my eyes, and I’m starting to see faint expression lines on my forehead and around my smile. 🙂
See the Future Fortifying Eye Cream ($15) smells like green tea to me, and I love green tea. Biore says it’s a cream, but it feels light, thin and non-greasy — more like an eye gel. The texture totes reminds me of MAC’s Fast Response Eye Cream.
Biore also claims it de-puffs, moisturizes and targets fine lines around the eyes, and they suggest applying it in the morning, evening or any time under makeup.
I liked the smooth, slippery texture and how quickly it sunk into my skin. Immediately, I noticed a visible de-puffing on my eyelids and around my eyes.
I didn’t really see any significant changes in fine lines, but ya know, it’s an eye gel, not a Christmas miracle.
Moisturization feels moderate, but then again my skin can get pretty dry, so I prefer richer eye creams. However, if your skin is oily or normal, then this might suit you just fine. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B
Clean Things Up Nourishing Gel Cleanser ($7) has the same yummy green tea scent, and washing with it feels invigorating. I barely need to use any to get a good foam going, and when I rise it off the cleanser removes all of my makeup without leaving my skin feeling taut or uncomfortable.
Because it’s the middle of winter and my skin is drier than usual, I notice even the tiniest bit of tightness around my cheeks and nose. It’s very slight, though. I think when my skin is oilier in the summer it probably won’t be an issue.
If your skin is normal or oily and you’re looking for a basic cleanser that removes everything without stripping your skin, then this is a keeper. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A
Biore stuffed Even Smoother Microderm Exfoliator ($15) with hella exfoliating granules to do some serious scrubbing.
It contains fine alumina crystals (the same crystals used in micro-dermabrasion procedures). I can definitely feel the scrubbies going to work, and I have to take care not to press too hard or too vigorously; otherwise, my skin feels a little raw when I’m done.
After one exfoliating sesh with this my skin looked and felt smoother. A little went a long way, too, so the tube’s gonna last a while. An awesomely fantastic drugstore find! Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+
Even though I’m probably not part of the target market for this skin care line, from what I’ve tried so far there are a few good bits. If I were 10 years younger I’d probably be all over the line in a heartbeat.
The pink dolphin, awww!
Did you gals see the picture of the world’s only pink Bottlenose dolphin? Ohmygosh it made my morning. It lives in an estuary in Louisiana, and it’s an albino.
You can see the dolphin doing its thang here:
SO cute!
Another fun bit of randomness — today math enthusiasts worldwide celebrate square root day. It’s March 3, 2009, or 03/03/09, ha!
It almost makes me want to take out my calculator and solve integer problems.
Almost.
Hope you’re having a terrific Tuesday! 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

OMG. Pink albino dolphin. WAHHT. Yeah this brightened up my day completely. I was a little blah after singing in class today but man its like a heffalump but a dolphin 😛
Thanks for reviewing the line 🙂 I always feel wierd looking for eye creams cuz they’re usually all about zapping wrinkles and what not but I am like… 19…20 in a few weeks. haha

A pink bottlenose dolphin? How odd.
I may have to try out the Biore stuff. I’ll have to see if I can handle the green tea scent first. Is it faint, moderate or strong in terms of scent? I would rather not battle a migraine. I all ready had one of those o’er the weekend. I do use Biores nose strips though (those things really kill nose blackheads).

aww i want a pink dolphin!!! i was reading another article about this little guy and they called him a random freak of nature – i thought that was harsh i think he may seem a little weird but weird is cool! and heck pink is my fave color!
i went swimming with dolphins before they are such fabulous animals! MY FAVORITE ANIMAL BY FAR ( next to kitties of course!)
this line looks interesting – im bummed that i too am i out of the age bracket boo the micro dermabrasion scrubbie guy looks like a great alternative to the expensive kiehls i have been using !

Hey Karen! I saw this in CVS last week and was wondering about it, esp the exfoliator. Def going to try it!
A pink dolphin?! So cool. I’m home sick today and it totally brightened my day. It’s a combo of two my past loves – dolphins and pink!
Karen says
Hi Stephie,
Super cute, huh? I am a little worried about it, though — I hope it doesn’t get sunburned or anything. And apparently lots of people are flocking to estuary to check it out.
Karen says
Hi Kate,
The scent is faint. It’s not as heavy as some other green teas scents, that’s for sure. And it’s not sickly sweet tea scent, which is nice.
Karen says
Hi YadiQ,
Weird is cool! I hope that the his home doesn’t get bombarded by curious onlookers wanting to check him out…
Dolphins are one of my favorite animals, too. I love that they’re smart and that they live in pod families. Where did you go to swim with them?
The scrub is REAL DEAL. I have a pricy Dermalogica one that’s similar, and the Biore one is comparable in texture and performance.
Oh — math isn’t my forte, either. 🙂

Hi Shefali,
Sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well! How is the weather down there? I hope at least it’s sunny while you’re at home recovering.
The exfoliator is my favorite out of the bunch I tried. I went to town on my chin and around my nose (where I get whiteheads… yuck) this morning and it was really satisfying (and kind of gross). If you get it be sure to use a gentle touch, because the grains are very powerful.

oh wow.
square root day.. i don’t think i’ve heard of that title before.. 😀
and the albino dolphin seems cute.. but i heard its eyes are red…which might not be too cute :]

Hi Jane,
Right? The next celebration will be 4/4/16, so you better get in your party now because that’s a few years away, LOL!
Karen says
Hi Tanya,
You’re welcome! What changes have you noticed? I remember being really shocked to go from straight up oily to oily and dry.

I love Biore. It is one of the best drugstore brands…Their SPF 15 moisturizers are wonderful !

Hi Indian Girl,
I haven’t tried their sunblocks! How do they feel? Do they leave a film, or are they dry to the touch?
lesley says
I loooove Biore! I can’t wait to try this, most especially the moisturizers! Hubby and I mutually fight over Biore’s Pore Minimizing Moisturizer with SPF 15, so it might be a good thing for me to grab something new… for us to fight over again later on 😉
Wasn’t the weather so yucky today? What’s your rainy day weather-proof makeup routine look like? I’m still trying to figure out what works for me =/
Hope you had a good day despite the gloomy weather!! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Lesley,
Oh, if I could only get El Hub to subscribe to a dedicated face wash… he believes that shampoo is the basis for all cleanliness. Sigh.
When it rains I’ll do my usual makeup with just a few modifications. I’ll bust out the Shu Uemura waterproof mascara. If my lips are dry from wind I’ll have a lip conditioner on hand, rather than a sticky lip gloss. My hair usually whips around all over the place (even when it’s in a ponytail) so I don’t like to have anything sticky on my lips. 🙂 How about you? What’s your rainy routine like?
Tammy says
I tried this gel cleanser and I’m really loving. I need to pick up the eye cream..I need some depuffing action..lol
Tammy´s last blog post..You have Royal Mail!!
Karen says
Hi Tammy,
You and me both, girl! I hate it when I wake up and they’re all puffed out… so not cute.
Sarah says
I’ll have to try out some of those products. 😀
Hey did you know there’s a type of dolphins in the Amazon River that turn bright pink? I think they turn pink when they’re excited. HOW CUTE!
Lehea says
Had to do a double play on that pink dolphin video. Crazy!!! I’ll be on the look out for that eye cream and gel cleanser.
Karen says
Hi Lehea,
I watched it a few times, too. I wonder if he gets crap from the other dolphins for being pink. I hope not!
