Are you always pressed for time? Do you squeeze in quickie gym workouts on your lunch hour? If you’re one of those gals who could use a few extra minutes in your day, then *toot* *toot*, climb aboard the spray moisturizer train. Much quicker to apply and faster absorbing than traditional body lotions and creams, spray aerosol or pump moisturizers definitely save time.
They shave minutes off my morning routine, freeing up time for important things like feeding the neighbor’s tabby cat (he’s such a user!) or having a second cup of java.
Here are two spray-on moisturizers I like. The first will set you back a pretty penny; the second will save you a few bucks.
Splurge: ModelCo’s Skin Drink Airbrush Moisturizer
At $30, ModelCo’s Skin Drink Airbrush Moisturizer costs an arm and a leg, but this green tea-scented aerosol works like a dream. It requires virtually no effort to moisturize your entire body with this bad boy (lazy people, raise ya’ hands up!). You don’t even have to massage it in. I like to wait about 30 seconds after spraying it on to let it dry before putting on clothes. This is the fastest moisturizer I’ve ever used, hands down, and gives me more time to pursue my various attempts at world domination.
The 230-ml can is about the same size as a large can of hairspray, but it still fits comfortably in one hand. The nozzle creates a large radius of mist, which covers lots of skin surface area, and the spray even works when you hold the can upside down (to get hard-to-reach places like your back, thighs and bum… that might be TMI).
When I first used it I was tempted to over-spray because it’s just so fun and easy to do, but a little spray goes a long way.
Vitamins and natural extracts like ginkgo, papaya, green tea and bamboo make ModelCo Skin Drink Airbrush very skin friendly. As a moisturizer, I found it about as effective as Lubriderm Sensitive Skin Lotion, but not quite as moisturizing as Aveeno. Its biggest drawback is price. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A
Steal: CVS Soft Skin Spray
Not one to be outdone, CVS carries a great spray-on moisturizer of their own. Soft Skin Spray is a drugstore option patterned after Avon’s Skin So Soft, a famous liquid moisturizer spray (which, incidentally, works well as a bug repellent, even though it wasn’t intended to).
Unlike ModelCo’s Skin Drink, CVS Soft Skin Spray is a liquid spray, not an aerosol. CVS carries a small 2-oz travel bottle for $3. That’s a pretty good deal, perfect for a gym bag or shower caddy.
Because of its liquid spray pump, expect to spend a little bit more time and effort using Soft Skin Spray than you would with Skin Drink. I also have to physically rub the product into my skin for it to absorb, and that takes a minute or two.
Soft Skin Spray leaves a slightly greasy film (the main ingredient is mineral oil). It leaves my skin a little shiny, but in the summer, like when I’m wearing a skirt or tank top, I like having the shine. While it doesn’t work as quickly as Skin Drink does, the price is right on point. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+

I managed to stay out of further technical trubs throughout the afternoon and evening, hooray! I’m staying in tonight to recover from the “experience” with WordPress earlier. What are you doing tonight? If you’re heading to the movies, I really liked The Dark Knight, and I’m not hawking it just because C. Bale is in it (ya right). The movie makes some intriguing social commentary on the choices people make in their lives. Speaking of choices, right now I choose to eat a cup of dulce de leche ice cream, after which I will pass out.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Would these products be like dry oil sort of like the ones Sephora sells?

I really like them and use them on lazy days.
Glad that you enjoyed my man’s movie. 🙂

Most days I’m good with regular moisturizer, but some days I really want a spray-on! Origins used to have one that I loved! I might try the Modelco if I’m feeling indulgent… or maybe at the next Sephora FF event!
I’m muzzy-headed but cheery right now, we’ll be hopping in the car adnd heading down to Disneyland in about 15 minutes! Just had to say howdy before we left! 🙂
Oh, and I LOVE Pinky and the Brain! Narf! 😀

This sounds like the perfect kind of moisturizer for me 🙂 5 more minutes in bed are highly appreciated… hehe
I just got back from Ghent (it’s Gentse Feesten, like a huge party throughout the city with free gigs and stuff, it’s lots of fun) and still a tad tired but I’ll keep on working. I decided to bribe myself with that Lancome palette once it comes out 😉

Man, the Joker in the Dark Knight scared the bejeebies out of me! That clown was totally unhinged (mourns the loss of Heath Ledger). And I suggest having a couple Long Island Iced Teas to recover from your harrowing Word Press incident.

I might have to go check this out at CVS, thanks!

Hey Karen!
Do you think the ModelCo one would last a while? I actually have a mini version of it, but I haven’t used it yet. I have this irrational fear that I’ll use it like once or twice and then the bottle will be empty, lol.

My problem with spray products is I always use them so fast like spray on sunscreen. That stuff is great at the beach but doesn’t last a day.
Karen says
Hi Marisol,
Yeah, they’re similar. Those look really good — which one’s your favorite scent?
Ha! You’re man is making me coffee right now. He says, “Hey.”

Hi Glosslizard,
I am so jealous. Have fun on your trip and wear lots of sunscreen. 🙂 Tell Micky hello for me!

Hi Karen B!
Sounds like a lot of fun (and free is always good). Was it like a massive street faire? Props to you for coming back and working!
Yeah, these moisturizers are real time savers. The lazy beast in me really likes them!
Karen says
Hi Jana,
Have you tried lots of ModelCo products? They’ve got some interesting stuff, for sure! You have a great day too. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Tekoa,
RIGHT? I found him really terrifying. Heath did a fantastic job at being a crazy person.
Karen says
Hi Tiffany,
Yeah, I think it will. You don’t have to use a lot to get enough moisturization. Just be careful not to get too trigger happy with the nozzle and you can totally make it last!
Karen says
Hi Melissa,
I hear ya. I have the same issue with spray sunscreens. With this stuff you don’t have to use the same amount. A little goes a long way!
Karen says
Hi Sara,
You’re welcome! 🙂

When I read about the ModelCo spray lotion the lazy person in my got *really* excited, lol. I might have to check it out. It sounds pretty amazing. I often skip the whole lotion thing in the morning because it takes so long, or maybe it just seems like it 🙂
I don’t have any great plans tonight. I need to work on my laundry, do some dishes, clean the bathroom, etc. Fun times, haha.

It’s not really a street faire. It’s more like a city party. Literally translated the name means: the parties of ghent. I’ve never come across something like it. If you ever come to Belgium I greatly recommend it 😉
