Hot drugstore gloss alert! Sonia Kashuk’s Lip Glossing with No-Feather Pencil ($7.99) creates color-rich, high-shine lips … but there’s a catch (isn’t there always?).
Take a close look at the above picture. See how only half the tube contains gloss? The other half hides a lip pencil, which works a’ight, but it’s not on par with the gloss. If I could, I’d split the tube in half, take the gloss and ditch the pencil, but these two are a package deal, like the Sex and the City girls.

The lipgloss packs intense color and shine; it’s almost hard to believe it’s a drugstore product. I like the light vanilla-lemon fragrance. As far as taste, it’s not a flavored lipgloss. The semi-sticky texture lasts about three hours per application. I have four of the 14 shades, and I LOVE THEM!
Sassy

Precious

Vivacious

Scandalous

From left to right: Sassy, Precious, Vivacious, Scandalous

On the other end of the gloss holds the No-Feather Lip Pencil, which, unfortunately, isn’t very pigmented or creamy. I don’t know if Sonia intended the color of the pencil to be as sheer as it is, but when I lined my lips with it, I couldn’t really tell if the lines I’d drawn were even because of how faint the color is. I’m sticking with my MAC Cremestick liners instead.
Price: $7.99
Use: As a hot lipgloss (or a mediocre lip liner)
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B
Despite my issues with the lip pencil half, for $7.99, I would buy more of these because of how rich the gloss colors are. I can buy one of these without feeling as guilty as I would if I were to spend $25 for a Chanel Glossimer.
If you don’t wear lip gloss very often, or if you do and would like to try some new colors, their $8 price tag makes Sonia Kashuk’s Lip Glossings worth a look.
Get your Sheer Lip Glossing fix at your nearby Target store, or purchase a tube online.
I’m so excited! I’ve got tickets to tonight’s midnight showing of Sex and the City. I’m dragging El Hub along with me; the poor guy is such a trooper. Now the countdown is on and I can’t wait to be reunited with Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha. I haven’t decided which shoes to wear yet, but I’ll let you know when I figure it out.
To pump myself up for the movie, I’ve been listening to India Arie’s version of the Don Henley song, Heart of the Matter.
My favorite part of the song is:
“All the people in your life who’ve come and gone
They let you down, you know they hurt your pride
Better put it all behind you; cause life goes on
You keep carrin’ that anger, it’ll eat you up inside”
This song always makes me feel really happy and positive. I hope it does the same for you. Have a wonderful day!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Ahh I love that song. I love that whole CD of his! I completely forgot the movie comes out tomorrow. I can’t believe it’s here already!
Those lip gloss colors are real nice. I love the last one, scandalous! I might try it… I’ll see when I go check it out.
Did you get a new book yet? You should read the third book in the Gemma Doyle trilogy. I’m almost done with it. It’s very exciting!!

Hi Karen B.!
When does it come out in your country? I hope it’s soon.
Yeah, I had to bribe him a little bit. I told him I’d buy him chocolate at the theater.
How’s your day been?

Hi Bridget,
Scandalous is so beautiful in real life. Red glosses are always high maintenance, but so fun!
I did get a new book… I borrowed it from work. It’s an autobiography, “Redneck Boy in the Promised Land,” and it’s the life story of Ben Jones, the guy who played “Cooter” on Dukes of Hazard. He also served in Congress. I totally didn’t know that there was a third book in the Gemma Boyle series! That’s so on my list.
What’s going on with you today?
May 29th, 2008 at 10:30 am
Hi Karen,
I saw Sonia Kashuk on TV one time (Today show I think) and she said the lip liner is designed for elderly people with lots of fine lines around their lips. It’s basically colorless and very waxy so that the gloss doesn’t migrate out of the lips and look all gross and feathery. Apparently you don’t have that problem but it’s good to know.
I can’t wear red, my lips are too narrow. Last night I did the perverted thing ever: I lined up all my eyeshadows and lipglosses! Then I arranged them based on their colors, counted them, and put them back. Apparently after doing so, my yearn for more makeup did not subside. I am now a chronic makeup-aholic!

These glosses are pretty…did you buy out target yet? :-)BTW - I picked up a cleanser there that I think I’m going to take back.
It was called rub your nose in it. I can’t remember the name of the line and I’m having trouble finding it online. Anyway I think my skin might be too sensitive.
I’ll have to give it another try though just in case. The line was cute and the little sign said something to the fact that the devloper worked with Bliss previously. They had lip glosses called sexy motherpucker…which cracked me up.

Hi Dao,
Girl, you are so not alone. I’ve totally done that! Did you discover any patterns afterward? When I separate stuff by color I can totally see which shades I tend to buy most.
Thanks for the tip regarding the lip pencil. Well, at least now I know Sonia had a reason for attaching it to this fab gloss.

Hi Megan,
Not quite yet.
I love House of Tar-ghay, seriously. I go in there for one item, and then next thing I know it’s five hours later.
I hope your skin didn’t react too badly.
I hate trying something new and having my skin totally freak the eff out. Even if I spot test on my chin for a few days, I can never really tell what’s going to happen when I put stuff on my entire face. I think I saw that line, though, awhile back, ’cause I remember the cute, names, too. (”Sexy motherpucker shaking that ass!” LOL.)
May 29th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Yeah…my skin didn’t freak out too much… it’s supposed to clear pores and shrink pores…and it’s supposed to have fruit acids as well as some tiny grit for exfoliation. Well… I was thinking I might alternate it with my Bliss Steep Mask…which I’m doing once a week…but when I put the stuff on it was like I don’t know… maybe similar to noxema in the feeling on my face - it was very cooling…but I didn’t leave it on long. When I rinsed my face kinda felt good, but I felt like I couldn’t have left the stuff on my face ANY longer at all. Then my nose and cheeks were a little red for a little bit…but it went away. The instructions say to start in your t zone and rub then to expand to your cheeks, but not too much rubbing outside the Tzone. I don’t know. I will try it once more to see.

in desperate need of help!
i cant find a good lip product whether its gloss or lipstick. i need something that has good staying power as im too busy for reapplications. i have olive skin so i like dark pinks and plums. can anyone recommend me a product that has very good staying power. very much appreciated.

Hi Megan,
Hmm, mabe it’s the AHAs? I’ve noticed that even the fruit ones sting my skin a little. After a few uses it usually goes away though. Maybe you should spot test the next time around. That way you won’t risk turning too red.
So random, but I’ve been using a new cleanser, too - Clinique’s 7 day scrub cream. I really like it in the morning because it wakes me up.
May 29th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Hi Ash,
Try Clinique Glosswears. I find they last long and don’t dry my lips out. You can see swatches here and here of the shades I have.
May 29th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
The Bliss steep mask has fruit acids too though…and it’s never stung and I leave it on for like 10-15 minutes. Thankfully the redness went away. Maybe it’s the combination of the AHA’s with the slight grittiness.
I’ve used samples of the 7 day scrub cream before. I like it, but at the same time I don’t like to scrub too frequently…LOL I’m always scared to over-exfoliate.

Hey Karen,
Thanks for another Sonia post! I might have to swing by Target now and pick some of those up.
I purchased L’Oreal Voluminous mascara two days ago and am really liking it. I picked up the Full Definition (not sure what the difference is between that and the regular kind, I spent forever in Rite Aid studying the boxes but couldn’t figure it out, lol.) Thanks for that recommendation, too.
May 29th, 2008 at 4:34 pm

Pretty glosses! Seems like Sonia Kashuk is turning out a pretty good line overall! Thanks for filling us in!
May 29th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Hi Megan,
Ya know, I hear ya. I started feeling like I was getting addicted to it so I had to make myself chill for a bit.
I wonder if there’s such a thing as exfoliation addiction, LOL.
May 29th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Hi Elena,
You’re welcome.
I’m glad you like the L’oreal Voluminous. Hmmm, did you get the “Carbon Black” version?
May 29th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Hi Jenny,
Oh! Isn’t Vivacious pretty in real life? I really want to pair it with a hot pink/fushia!
May 29th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Hi Meaghan,
Nope, not yet. I’m gonna leave for vacay in a week and might pick some up to use (strangely enough) on my thighs! My legs are pretty pale for a brown girl right now, some I’m hoping it’ll work on me.
May 29th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Hi Marisol,
I hope you get to watch it tomorrow, too! I’m leaving in an hour… my stomach is already rumbling for popcorn!
Hope you’re having a good night.
May 29th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Hi Glosslizard,
You’re welcome. I’m *really* surprised with the quality of her stuff. It’s so budget friendly and works great.
May 29th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Oh no

Yet another one for the list
I erased one from the list yesterday - Laura Mercier’s secret brightening powder #2 - got it on strawberrynet - yay
May 30th, 2008 at 2:58 am
thanks karen! i will definetly give those a go!
May 30th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Hey Karen,
I wasn’t able to score the “Carbon Black” version.
The Rite Aid I got it from is walking distance to my student apartment, and in return it’s tiiiinnyyyy and doesn’t carry it (they don’t even have Cover Girl’s Lash Blast yet! o_0 ). I just got Blackest Black instead, and it’s working pretty well for me.
May 31st, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Hi Ditte,
OH SWEET! Have you used it yet? What do you think? Dark circles be gone…
Guess what! I will probably be visiting N.O. in November. I’m going to be in Florida for a wedding and then will head out to there afterwards. You’ll have to let me know the good local places to eat and hang out.
May 31st, 2008 at 8:54 pm
You’re welcome, Ash. Let me know how they work out for you. I really hope they do, because they are fabulous glosses.
May 31st, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Hi Elena,
Lash Blast isn’t all that, so you aren’t missing much! I’m glad that Blackest Black is working for ya. Hopefully soon you’ll get the chance to try the awesomeness of Carbon Black!
I just remembered another drugstore item that’s great - Sally Hansen Glosses. They have a vanilla scent that I’m not crazy about, but the colors are very pretty!

Hi Karen,

no - still awaiting the package from Hong Kong - gotta order my favourite concealer as well, Helena Rubinstein’s magic concealer
I think that in conjunction, those two products will work wonders!
I’ll give you a list of cool places to visit in N.O. before you go

Hi Ditte,
Thanks! I think it’s going to be a great trip.
I hope you get your package soon and that the two work wonders together, woo hoo!
