Mark my words! Come hell or high water! I AM GOING TO TARGET TO BUY THAT CAT LADY SWEATER TODAY!!
I’ve had it on my to-do list for… Heck, I don’t know how long it’s been on there. At least a week. El Hub’s car has been in the shop, so he’s been taking my Mazda to work, which has left me at home with Tabs.
Not that I mind (except for the sweater).
But I’m mobile again. Got my car back, so I can run a few errands this afternoon. Tabs needs gravy (Seriously, he really does. There isn’t a can left in the house.), and I need that sweater from Target.
When I’m there, I’m gonna swing by the Sonia Kashuk section to see if they have her Satin Luxe Lip Colours with SPF 16.
Babe, have you tried these before? I’m kicking myself for not getting on the train sooner because they’re kind of the sh*z. I’ve been wearing the two newest shades in the fall collection, Spiced Berry and Pinky Beige, off and on for the past couple of weeks and lovin’ it.
Sonia Kashuk Satin Luxe Lip Colour SPF 16
Oh, yeah. And they’re less than 10 bucks ($9.99 to be exact). The buttery, featherweight formula feels almost exactly like a $22 MAC Mineralize Rich Lipstick to me, and they’re super duper smooth, so there’s none of that annoying business where the color settles into the lines on my lips.
More to love
- They’re unscented and unflavored.
- Contain SPF 16.
- Last from 2-3 hours, which isn’t bad for something this lightweight.
- And each tube has that see-through part, which makes it easy to find the shade I’m looking for at a glance.
OK, but are they worthy of a precious permanent place in your purse?
I think so…but my definition of “permanent” is more like long-term temporary. 🙂
If they do deserve that kind of love, it’s on account of how moisturizing they are — like we’re in the desert, and our Jeep Wrangler just stalled off-road 20 miles from the nearest service station, and then you apply one of these, and it’s like a giant bottle of Gatorade for your lips.
Yeah, that moisturizing.
If your pout gets crazy dry and flaky like mine does, or if you travel a lot by plane (can’t stand that recycled air!) or live somewhere with very low humidity, I think you’ll appreciate it.
Plus, the colors are totally on point for fall.
Pinky Beige
Pinky Beige just might be the perfect creamy nude. Not too cool nor warm, it’s medium coverage and massively low maintenance. You could probably pair it with any color smokey eyes — black, gray, bronze, green, blue — no problem at all. Hands down, it’s one of the most flexible, affordable lip colors you could add to your makeup bag this fall.

Spiced Berry
Spiced Berry’s shimmery finish caught my eye immediately. It’s got good glitter, ya know? Not that cheer champ stuff, but the kind of glitter that goes great with sleek black dresses, patent pumps and dainty gold jewelry.
If you like vampy lip looks or think you might like them but have yet to give ’em a try, Spiced Berry could be a good place to start.

Swatches (for reference, I’m an NC42)
In addition to the two new fall shades, there are 12 more colors in the line: Currant, Barely Nude, Nude Pink, Blushing, Roseberry, Sunkissed, Classic Red, Ruby Rose, Rosette, Violetta, Plum Wine and Red Orange. Can’t wait to check out the rest, and I’m looking forward to finding more gems.
You can find the Satin Luxe lip Colours at Target stores and online.
Now on my nightstand…
I started a new book this week called Looking for Alaska, by John Green (young adult genre). Since I read another one of his his books, The Fault in Our Stars, earlier this year and loved it, I wanted to give this one a try.
It’s about a young man, tired of his ho-hum life in Florida, looking for adventure (what he calls “the great perhaps,” which I think is a quote from someone else), so he chooses to go off to boarding school in Alabama.
I got the free excerpt on Kindle (you ever do that?) and that sealed the deal.
Whatever you do, though, **WARNING!** If you think there’s any chance you’re going to read it, DO NOT READ the first review on amazon.com from School Library Journal, because there’s a major plot spoiler in it, and they don’t even warn you! How rude! Grrr… I hate it when that happens.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I really enjoyed this book. to the point of the first time I finished it, I flipped back to the beginning and started over again. It was powerful, moving and both funny and sad, everything in between. I really hope that you enjoy it as much as i did.

Hi Ruth,
I’ve done with a handful of books, too. 🙂
So far I’m really liking it! Have you read any of his other books?
Ruth says
I’ve read them all and have enjoyed them quite a bit. Paper Towns and An Abundance of Katherines are well worth your reading time. they show how those people who are idolized aren’t really who you thought that they were and it would be impossible to stay upon the pedestal that they’ve been put upon. the co-written Will Grayson, Will Grayson is about two boys with the same name meet and how different their lives are comparatively. Let it Snow was a fun anthology with Green and a couple of other authors. Obvs, I recommend everything he’s written =) there are also two short web stories Zombicorns and The War for Banks Island, just google them; they’re free to download.

I love that the lip product contains SPF. Thanks for the Amazon warning!

In Looking for Alaska the main character has a thing about famous last words, so “I go to seek a great perhaps” are someone’s last words, I don’t remember whose, but I believe it says whose last words they are in the book at some point. The Fault in our Stars is probably my favorite John Green book, and then Looking for Alaska, but I love all of his books! You should check out John Green on YouTube if you haven’t already (Vlogbrothers, also the Crash Course and Mental Floss channels too).
Next time I go to Target I’ll definitely check these out, they look really great!

Will definitely be checking these out at Target. I’m always on the lookout for lipcolors with SPF in them.

This post is very well timed. I’m finally checking out some Sonia stuff at my Target today. The pinky beige is so pretty. It’s good to know they’re moisturizing too. All the lipcolors I’ve purchased lately have been so drying. And Target is such a trap for me. I go in for facewash and then somehow I’m standing at the register spending 100 bucks lol <3 Favorite store.
ALSO I'm hitting up my local bookstore to get some books and get back into reading regularly. I'll have to check this out.

Those are gorgeous on you! I recently picked up a couple of SK lipsticks on clearance at Target for $3 each! I was very impressed and they were in my two favorite colors: hot pink and coral!
Maggie says
Oh! Thanks for reviewing these! I’ve been avoiding SK lipsticks since I bought a couple that had a sweet-plasticky scent. Annoying and had to return–NEVER touched it again. I see these are newly re-packaged and might be a new formula so it’s a must-try.

I love all John Green’s books! It’s not available in major bookstores here so I had to buy them via an online store that sells imported books. Worth the struggle LOL.

Pinky Beige is so cute! Great neutral.

Karen,
New followers here- LOVE your site. About the eyelid primers for oily lids- does the Nars one you reviewed have frost in it, or is it matte? I am 50 yrs. old- I have the Urban Decay Potion primer in Sin, and it’s too harsh on my thin, and wrinkled lids! I love all the metallic looks you young ladies are wearing on your eyes, but it just isn’t rockin’ on this older gal!
Ruth says
Erin, I’ve tried the Nars primer and it doesn’t leave any color at all and does a wonderful job of holding the shadows in place all day.

Pinky beige looks like a great color! Will have to check it out next time I’m in Target. BTW, love your hair. What kind of curling iron do you use and how do you curl it?
