When the production crew of Hoarders finally arrives at my doorstep to film “the very special makeup episode,” they’ll find me half-buried under a mound of Friskies Gravy Lovers cans, unread issues of Entertainment Weekly and Chanel eye quads.
I’ll be wearing the gray bathrobe I borrowed from my friend Jen once and never returned and clutching something small and Chanel-like in one of my hands…
“Forget about me!” I’ll say to the production assistant trying to free me from the mound. “Save the quad instead!”
What quad is that?
A new one from Sonia Kashuk called Moroccan Dunes. 🙂
Is it just me, or does this quad shout, “COCO WAS HERE!” The sleek, Chanel-esque packaging, the luminous finish that glimmers on lids, and the colors, like precious metals, in rich, dark brown, grayish mauve, shimmering pink and rosy gold.
But in this case, the price is right — much lower than Chanel. It’s just $16.99, so you won’t feel like you have to sneak it into the house in your big purse (been there, done that).
When I work with these hybrid shadows, which combine baked, powder, cream and liquid finishes/textures, I like to start with a kick-@ss primer on my lids, like NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, to lock the shadows in place.
Then, to apply, I load a flat eye shadow brush with one or two of the shades, tap it to remove the excess and reduce any fallout — which can get pretty wicked with a couple of the fluffier shades — and press the powder on my lids.
Pressing, as opposed to swiping, seems to help the shadows bind a little better to my skin. Then I blend the edges with a domed brush.
Applied this way, I get from 10-11 hours of shiny, sparkling color — and no creases or fading.
Ah… I love knowing that I can skip touch-ups throughout the day. 🙂
And I just feel so elegant when I’m wearing Moroccan Dunes, like all I’d have to do is slip on my black cocktail dress (can’t forget the Spanx!), add a strand of pearls, and I’d be ready for Bruce Wayne to whisk me off to a museum gala.
The palette’s priced on the high end for drugstore, but what a great way to get a Chanel look for less.
PRICE: $16.99

MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (what’s with all the fallout lately?)
Greetings from A-line salon in Corte Madera! I’m sipping tea, waiting for my color to process and listening to my roots sigh with pleasure, ah…
One of the reasons I love this hair place so much (is Alis! — who does my ‘do right) is that it’s a stone’s throw away from a great pizza place.
They sell thin-crust pizza by the slice, so after I finish getting my hair did, I can walk next door for a snack.
Hair color and pizza? You know, priorities! 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I bought this about a week ago and am so in love. All 4 colors are amazing alone or used together. I am seriously considering buying another one since this is limited edition and i never want to be without it!

Sonia Kashuk is usually worth the extra money, I find. Love the quad and I think your swatches have persuaded me to get it. Ah, the addiction 😛

This looks so pretty on you! I had to LOL when you said you sneak stuff in with your purse. That’s me with nail polish! I have a ton and my husband just doesn’t understand :). I’m always buying it at the grocery store and putting it in my purse to bring it inside.

I was looking at this palette in Target the other day, but ended up not purchasing it because I wasn’t sure I would love it. After reading your post, I kinda want to go back and get one :). Thanks Karen!

This palette is stunning. I wore it yesterday to a job interview and with my UD All Nighter spray, it lasted through my Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu classes. You look amazing! It really does look and wear like a Chanel or Dior palette.

This little palette is so pretty! The colors are very wearable too.

You’re so right about its Chanelesque qualities. It’s almost like Demure had a baby with Mystic Eyes. Also, your hair looks really fab up like that.

Gorgeous! What’s on the rest of your face??

This quad is so pretty and it does remind me of something Chanel would do! I love hybrid shadows. Some of them can stay put on my lids all day even without a primer, though I pretty much systematically use one anyways!

I really like this palette! Looks great to have on hand.

Ahh, I think I need this! I’ll have to pick it up when I get home from my trip!

I absolutely love how all the colors in this quad go so well together. Gorgeous! =)

I am going to need to make a Target run for this! Love Chanel quads but have never been able to afford (crazy nail polish habit+ fancy skincare stuff=beauty budget BLOWN!). If a Chanel connoisseur like you likes it, it is definitley worth a try at under $20! I keep seeing great write ups on several of my favorite beauty blogs about Sonia K makeup. I must give it a go! And I have been known to transfer the contents of a Nordstrom bag to a Target bag… but no need to for this! Husbands. :::sigh:::

This is a bit frosty for me but I LOVE how you’ve applied it. It looks absolutely fantastic on you.

Just picked this palette up yesterday, and wow! It reminded me of my Naked2 palette, so I played and compared, and sure enough. some very close matches there for anyone who is looking for a travel sized Naked2 or UD look for less. I know you don’t do too many comparison posts, but I would love to hear your thoughts, Karen.
PS, check out the Target coupon section(came in my weekly email) for an SK deal to make it even more affordable!

I saw the new SK blush/bronzers this week (too dark for me, boo) but I didn’t see this. It’s beautiful! It looks really pretty on you Karen!
